I think Miranda's infertility makes sense from a story telling perspective. She's exemplify's what it means to be human is perfect in every way has perfect genes yet she cannot pass them on. Miranda shows herself to be someone who's willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done which makes her infertility a sort of penance for the cost of genetic engineering which makes her character instead of being a sort of shinning example of the future of humanity into a more tragic one. I hear alot of people complain that Miranda's infertility is a bad thing because her motivation to be an excellent spy/operative and her love of her sister should come from within and not because "I could never have a normal life" but doesn't she not even find out she's infertile until midway through ME2?

That's an interesting theory. I do agree with it.

But I think the reason is because Bioware wants to get her pity and sympathy from players.

Miranda discussion question:

If Miranda could replace one existing squadmate, that is not James (you all knw you would pick him). Who would you replace and how would you write them off?

For me it'd be Liara, death by vacuum exposure

EDI.  I really like her, but I think her development in ME3 would be just as compelling and probably a lot more interesting if she wasn't anthropomorphized as a sex robot.  And getting rid of her as a team member doesn't compromise her role in the story or her presence on the Normandy.

. Another character I didn't want.  She was fine as the computer why did she need to be a squadmate??

I'd chose Tali.

Nothing against her, but it is so blatantly obvious she was horned in for fan service. She is an Admiral for god sakes, she should stay with her people and help them.

It's pity pandering. Certain people in here are simply suffering from a rather severe case of Apophenia. There is no plot.

Miranda is a human being. If you can't accept that coming into that is the character growth, you need to move on.

. But at least she is good at what she does.  Liara has no clue what she is doing as the broker

My point exactly.  She could've had the same character, dialogue, and development without taking up that squad slot, though she does have some interesting things to say on missions.  I think she's there because otherwise it's possible to have a squad of only Liara and James with no tech person.  (If Garrus and Tali die in the suicide mission and the VS is killed or not recruited.)

. I agree they needed a squadmate for each group, biotic, tech, and combat, but did she have to be a sex bot!?!?!

Oh, her chassis?  Yeah, that was pretty stupid.  It didn't bother me greatly, just like how Miranda's outfit and awkward camera shots are something I can overlook, but it was unnecessary.  A more androgynous (or even more alien like the geth) body would've been more interesting.

Count me in the EDI group. I understand why they needed James, but EDI was extraneous.

Though I'd happily swap out Tali/Garrus/James/Liara for Miranda too, so I could be biased...

I don't think it's pity pandering. Miranda's character is presented as one who is fully aware and understanding of who she is. As such you don't really ( or at least I don't) pity her over this because that's part of who she is, and it's the cost of manipulating nature.

Yeah androgyny can be cool.

EDI is supposed to look like Maria from Metropolis though.

. I get she needs to be human for infiltration purposes but really...... That was just unnecessary for her to look like that
