Do you know who Andrew Wakefield is?

That was like the meanest thing I could say about Sagan and you totally missed it...

. We all know he was a fake

A fake?

He started the "vaccinations lead to autism" trend with fake data.

He's downright evil.

And better than sagan :)

Could Miranda have some sort of admiration for Carl Sagan......yes ?

He did believe there were Aliens outhere....and he brought science to the common people.

HEADCANON !

I'd give it an hour or so. Perhaps two. The Skype conversation will occur then.

If people are on tonight.

Given her role as Lazarus head, she strikes me more as a biology or neurology kind of girl.

I was going to say Santiago Ramon y Cajal.  But Darwin works too.  Richard Dawkins IMO is again more like Carl Sagan, where his influence is about the popularization of science.

Oh it is. You didn't adress the others who were supporting me a few pages back. People are well aware of the circus this place has turned into at times.

People simply aren't talking about the things certain people want  and it leads to fights. Some of the discussion are incredibly productive but only so far. Most people in the majority now don't speak openly still because they fear reprisal from the minority.

There is either a wave of positivity or a wave of negativity, mainly about things people refuse to accept. Said things won't be changing so it's best to move on.

I'll address whatever you want- the moment you provide specific examples, preferably pointing to the source. I grow tired of generalities; "others", "people" and the like. I'm sure you're aware that "people" and "others" have said just about everything about everything.

Do you have actual facts or will you continue to lob untargeted accusations needlessly?

. He did coin the term meme, and his work on the effects on phenotypes effects on other species was very important as well

That's very true.  It's a shame his name now tends to evoke the new atheism movement rather than his scientific work; most people I talk to about his work just think of The God Delusion.

I'm not asking you to address anything. I never did.

It's a way of not singling people out. You know, as to not cause controversy? You need only go back one page to see an example of the Passive Agressive post bombing that occurs.

. The Selfish Gene and The Extended Phenotype are important works in evolutionary biology.  His other works ie. The God Delusion and The Blind Watchmaker, are important but not to scientific thought

I'd say his work popularizing evolutionary biology is just as important as his contributions to evolutionary theory.  Knowledge is no good if half the people in the US still don't understand evolution :(

Don't hide behind this. This isn't private confessions we're talking about. If anyone posted their opinions on this public thread, it means they wanted themselves to be heard.

So speak up if you want to be heard.

But come out and speak plain, don't just rattle the curtains.

I deny that any bullying or harassment of the level displayed a few pages ago ever happend since I joined this thread, approximatedly one year ago on page 695. Since that time, I also deny that there was a doctrine to maintain one perspective of Miranda and that opposing perspectives were willingly opressed through any means.

If anyone wants to claim differently, bring forth evidence to the contrary. If not, let's just drop this already and move on.

The Selfish Gene is written to be very accessible regardless of science background.  The Ancestor's Tale is a great way to really get a feel for evolutionary biology.  The Extended Phenotype is probably heavier on the nitty gritties of biology than his other works, but still really excellent.

God Delusion is polarizing, and that's all I'll say about it on the Internet :D

Steam tells me I've logged several hundred hours on Civ V.  I watch a lot of professional Starcraft II, but I'm terrible at playing it.  Other than that, Mists of Pandaria at the moment.

Very true. And regardless of whether or not you agree with something, understanding an opposing view is always important. So many out there rage when they hear "Richard Dawkins" and they haven't even read anything by him. Its disappointing, really.

Call me an optimist, but if America survived the Civil War, it can survive a decade or two of crazy people yelling loudly :)
