Of course she's important. She stars in the DLC.

The only thing that really made me grouchy was the fact that you couldn't confide in anyone else the way you do her.

by the way,
as for Liara being the broker,
is it my impression or EVERYONE in ME3 kinda bashes her for 'how come the shadow broker' didn't know about <insert whatever important moment in the game>"?

It felt a little disturbing õ.o

The irony is that Liara the archaeologist was important, not Liara the broker, to the point LOTSB was pointless.

At one point, I had hoped Miranda would show up working for Liara. Nice way to handwave Oriana's safety and prevent Miranda from turning into Grayson 2.0

I can only agree. The Shadow Broker was hyped up to have every secret of the galaxy, enough to start wars of any kind. In ME3 she was just standing there, generating some useless EMS out the blue. Not a single useful info.

I already knew that this idea wouldn't work the first time I heard it in the DLC...

I always liked the picture of the two of them working together.

If that happen, they'd have done everything to make Liara smarter than Miranda.

Yeah but Miranda's line has nothing to do with this kind of reasoning.
Miranda simply knew that letting TIM use something from the base would lead to this :
*snip*
(or even worst)

Not OOC, even for the more pragmatic version of Miranda.
This line only confims that she's a good judge of character and that she doesn't want Cerberus to cross the line.

Hmm...If I may ask everyone else here:

Is that how you see it, too? Because thinking to destroy the base because of what TIM might do with it and the possible results of TIM's proven recklessless with these things, that I find acceptable. I can imagine that she foresees these things and if she does, that would reflect well on her. I just don't see any such thinking reflected in what she actually says.

I do. Though I totally understand why it's not so apparent, but I did try and argue this point before. I guess Yannkee summed it up much more concisely. :P

If you look at versions of the conversation without Miranda, it becomes even more evident that TIM never really addresses what he intends to do (I seem to recall one character mentioning whether he'd be building his own Reaper). And who knows TIM better than Miranda?

Of course, on the flip side, it can be interpreted as a purely 'mechanical' piece of dialogue, in line with Miranda/Jacob 'advice' dichotomy, and you can see a clear precedent highlighted by a glitch here in ME1 where a character can hold opposing stances for the same situation. So that may undermine it somewhat. Though I do think BioWare did a generally good job in finding the character's 'voices' no matter how easily swapped their conversational role was.

Ieldra2 wrote...
BTW, that makes me wonder: does anyone not make Miranda speak to her sister in ME2 as a rule? I can see no convincing reason for that, since it only takes a nudge and you can clearly see she wants to make contact.

The only possible reason I could fathom would be because of the suicide mission. In the same way that she's unsure about a romantic relationship, she wouldn't want to burst into Oriana's life and then completely disappear.

Of course, I always convince her to talk to Oriana.

If it had been up to me, Liara would have had Hackett's role, with Shepard working under the auspices of the SB, with a multiracial crew and squad. Starting squad would have been Feron and the VS. Miranda would have either been a midgame squadmate or a Legion/Mordin style cameo.

I always liked the idea of them working together too. Nothing to support it, but I have them corresponding during the two year timeskip. Miranda taught Liara broker skills.

This sound good, specially because, whatever Liara does on the Normandy, it isn't needed it there. She helps the war effort, not the Normandy's functionality.

...I dunno, they didn't even make Liara smarter than Wrex or Traynor.

I saw this comic strip once where everyone's coming up with important intel, and when shep asks who found it, they say "NOT LIARA!"  Then at the end, Liara finds Shep's socks.

It was pretty funny.

To say it with Shepard: "We're all making some sacrifices today". I find the lack of opportunities to roleplay against the Alliance annoying, but refusing to work with them against the Reapers isn't a reasonable stance to take. I would've liked them as one faction among many, though, not the leading one. A neutral party like the Shadow Broker would have worked nicely.

I don't think the Galaxy is uniting under the equivalent of the space mafia though...

I think Shepard the spectre (and not alliance navy official) is actually the best figurehead.

Of course, Hackett gives the preinvasion speech, so my interpretation is flawed.

Oh i agree completely they need to be worked with given the galactic extinction event that is occurring. Now forcing me to work with them rather than having something neutral(shadowbroker) etc was disappointing but tolerable. Not providing the promised roleplaying ability to be doing so grudgingly though was pretty unforgivable imo.

Just seen it...

It really looks like quite some effort was put in it, especially for a free DLC...  but unfortunately multiplayer died for me months ago.

This looks like it could bring me back for another 2 or 3 days.
