so i pose this question to you all.

shepard and miranda in a relationship. they decide to go to the movies. miranda wants to see movie X, shepard wants to see movie Y. who wins? what movie do they see?

no cop out answers like "shepard and miranda are a perfect couple so they'd both wanna see the same movie anyways!".

They'd end up seeing both, or just going to see their chosen movies by themselves. While I can see there being an element of competition in their relationship, I really don't see them stressing over who gets to see their movie first. I really doubt it'd be that kind of competition.

Each goes to their own movie. Then they go out to dinner.

Thanks, guys. I wish I trusted the writers to have everyone behave like adults in ME3. I could at least postpone the decision.

i said no cop out answers.<_<

its a hypothetical to see who would be willing to comprimise first.

they decide to go on a vacation together, shepard wants to go to X, miranda wants to go to Y. those are the only two choices and they can't split time between the two spots or take two vacations.

this is a hypthetical, so please. no cheap cop-out answers.

Why do you think that a compromise must entail the two of them doing something together?  They're both big personalities, independent, strong-willed.  Why do they have to go to the same movie?  Or go on vacation together?  There are happily married couples who go to separate movies and even go on separate vacations.  Why not Shep and Miranda?

thanks for completely ignoring the entire point of the hypothetical. yes its possible for that to happen, but in any relationship theres gives and takes. shepard and mirandas relationship is particularly interesting because they're such strong-willed people. the point was to see who everyone thought would be first to comprimise. not "well they could do this instead!"

because anytime they have a difference of opinion, them going off on their own? sounds like a quick way to end a relationship to me lol

Not every couple needs to spend their lives in each other's pocket. It's actually good to have something to do outside of the relationship, so that you've got something extra to talk about. I can't see Miranda and Shepard wanting to spend their every waking moment together - because they are strong, independent minded people.

Flip a coin.

Though, if you want to be serious (Sort of), I think Shep would follow Miranda.

As smart/strong-willed/whatever he is, men are inherently stupid when it comes to women. (Breasts damn it!)

But that would also mean that the next vacation they go, she'll let Shep choose because she can comprimise too (And that trick can only work so many times. Better to save it when she really needs it.)

If the point of your hypothetical was to determine who would be the first to compromise, then whether you're talking about a movie or a vacation it's a flawed premise.  There are times when you compromise, and times when you don't, espeically on matters as trivial as this.  My wife and I have gone to separate movies on occasion.  We've also each of us gone to the movies alone when the other wasn't interested in going.  There have even been times when we *gasp* compromised and saw the same movie even though one of us wasn't terribly interested in it.  None of those instances is a worthwhile measure of our personality.

Miranda wins. She has better ways and "equipment" to dissuade Shepard, and I believe that she also has better threats ("we are gonna see my movie or no sex for a week").

@Clonedzero:
No, TheMarshal just tries to explain that your hypothetical situation has too many variables not taken into account to make any answer meaningful. And if it was a joke.....you got several answers. :P

i said no other variables. no taking two vacation, no splitting it in two, ect.  and instead of a fun little response to it, i get "it has too many variables, they could both have a mature relationship and do blah blah blah, im way too serious about this..."

you guys are absolutely no fun. damn...

That's just the thing, Clonedzero. Your example was artificially restricted and at the same time so general that no answer was possible without fixing some of those unknown variables. Also of course nobody wants to present either Shepard or Miranda as being unable to compromise and neither does anyone want to present them as pushovers, so of course you had to expect answers like jtav's, which was perfect btw.

It was either that or no answer. Those who answered on your terms could only lose. So they didn't.

This. lol.

Seriously, I think Miranda will have Shep on a lead by the end of ME2. And she'll only let him off the lead when she pleases.  Posted Image

but thats not realistic.
i mean no relationship is perfect, and the most obvious problem with shepard and miranda is that they'd both be unwilling to back down. so it was a fun little hypothetical to see hwo would back down first, or who would let the other win, or something like that.

i was using the movies and vaction as examples because its little stuff that alone doesnt really mean much, but anyone who's been in a relationship knows, little things matter too. its alot of that "what movie do you wanna see? where do you wanna eat tonight? what should we do today?" stuff.

this question is most interesting to the shepard miranda relationship because they are such commanding personalities. i can totally see shepard and miranda getting in alot of fights over stuff like that, speaking realistically of course. i tend to like to look at it that way, imagineing a perfect relationship bubble where everything 100% great all the time is completely boring to me.

Miranda

I can see Miranda getting her way most of the time when it comes to what she wants, when she wants it and if it serves a purpose.  :D

I can definitely see them competiting with each other.  I think they'd have fights because they are so independent and strong will but they'll learn to compromise when it's really important to them and their relationship.

My Maleshep will push for what he wants/jokes when he wants to tease her but will also be a softy about romantic stuff.  Even if he's bad ass renegade/paragonish on the outside he's all huggy and loveable in private.

Of course it's not perfect. But how things go would depend on several things, for instance, how important is this particular thing for Miranda and Shepard? If the alternatives are the favorite movies of both they might separate, if one alternative is a sappy romance and Shepard likes sappy romances a great deal and Miranda doesn't care either way she might compromise. I think everyone will be more likely to compromise in those things important for the other, and the ideal is that both feel it's balanced in the end.

And I don't think there would be many fights over little things. Miranda and Shepard are both alpha personalities, but both know to separate the inconsequential from the important.

I am so sick of waiting for an image or a word on Miranda in ME3.
