Not to mention it can be difficult to find older installments. You wouldn't believe how hard I had to look for a PC copy of ME1.

You can get digital version of ME2. It's not that hard to get... Seriously, no point in trying to make it harder than it is.

Eh, no I can't. My internet is crap. US has pretty poor broadband in some areas.

After what happened with DA2 nothing will ever surprise me, I hope if Miranda can be romanced during the course of ME3 that they allow for at least as much development as ME2 if not more.

Legion returning in a larger role is also good news for myself and a few others I know!

definitely!

As for Miranda i see the news as great for the game but ominous for any lengthy squad-status... that would logically exclude a fresh romance and - though i never thought it was character-suitable anyway - a s/s romance.

Not only, it would also exclude many things I care about.

If she were on the squad, I have to believe something would have been said by now. It's not really a spoiler in any meaningful sense. So, yeah

Perhaps she's not even on it temporarily and she serves some other function in the game entirely.

Squad reveals are some of the last things they do. Anders wasn't confirmed until a few weeks before DA2 was released.

All I wanted to say that I don't find it appropriate to call those who won't start with ME1 idiots. ME1 isn't a good advertisement for the trilogy these days, it looks outdated, the sidequest locations are all almost identical and the combat feels clunky to many people. Better to play the more polished games first and then go back to play the old ones for the whole experience.

Also, if you want a good internet connection and can't get one, that's no excuse. That's extremely annoying. I was there for some time, too.

I think the entire squad is not revealed yet, far from it... and I still have some hope that Miranda is one of the permanent ones, and I use the word "permanent" loosely here.

Well, after a bit of hiatus from Bioware games, I picked up DA:O and ME2 earlier this year, because that's what was on the shelves, basically. Then I downloaded ME1 because, after a few missions of ME2 it was obvious to me that I was going to want the whole story.

But, yeah, ME1 feels a bit clunky by comparison, and the reality is that people may jump into these franchises at any time, and will generally start with the newest installment.

They did that early with Ashley/Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Tali and Vega....

I think we'll get eight in the core team though, that leaves three slots to be filled.

Point is, they aren't done announcing, and some returning party members can be announced quite late.

I think we'll get two more new people, and one returning ME2 exclusive squaddie. Probably either Miranda or Jack.

I still think it's possible that a lot of the slots, other than Vega, VS and Liara, will involve player choice, such as Tali/Legion, maybe Miranda/Jack, Aria/Samarra, etc. That sort of thing.

I think there will be more reveals in the fall as they are putting out the VA list and other things (info on side missions etc)

Do you realize how much work that is for devs? We're getting that smaller squad so content isn't so thin.

I do have some inkling, yes, but given that most returning characters are going to be dead in certain imported games, some amount of redundancy is going to be necessary no matter what. Quite a bit actually, similar to how Ashley/Kaidan will have to be redundant with each other.

Another snippet from the panel is that they've written about the same total of lines for ME3 as for ME2 so far. That means it will have to be concentrated on fewer characters if there's to be significant squad banter. I don't know how far they are in the writing though. Mac Walters seems still pretty busy writing stuff.

Damn, I hope they end up with more than in ME2, for ME3 they have more editors and writers than in any previous ME game.

I don't think there will be that many choice slots. But I do think it's possible we get one choice like that. Miranda/Jack would be the most interesting one to me. They both could tie into the Cerberus plotline but from very different perspectives. Each could have their own motivations (Jack would likely just want to put a bullet in TIM's skull and erase Cerberus from existence. Miranda may have ambitions to take over Cerberus) and you have to choose which one to support. Kinda like the Roache/Iorveth decision in TW2. Just a thought.

I do think Miranda/Jack and Tali/Legion are the most likely, since both those conflicts are heavily teased in ME2, and the Cerberus situation + the Geth/Quarian plotline are both going to be major factors in ME3.

Miranda/Jack being mutually exclusive is interesting. Just to be evil, I'd make Miranda exclusive to keeping the base (no longer has access to the means to infiltrate Cerberus) and Jack exclusive to destroying iit since she reacts the most violently to keeping it. No that they'd do it.

OK people, good news. I'm just back from attending the Mass Effect 3 panel on GamesCom.

Mike Gamble said that Miranda "will have a large role" in Mass Effect 3, but refused to say anything about her being a squadmate or not.

Excellent news!!!!  :D  Thanks for the update!

yes i saw your post a few pages back and i wholeheartedly agree: i don't see the problem with miranda being a squad-mate and still contributing to the war ieffort, especially if some justification is suddenly made for liara t manage being SB/squaddie. character/romance development does depend on character interaction, most conveniently on the normandy at convenience.

considering they are still scripting "major" characters (miranda herself), i'd say that logically that's a given.

Regarding squadmate choices by the player:

These slots will by necessity be very limited, if they exist at all. They'll have to write interaction and squad banter with all other team members for every single option, and the amount increases proportional to the square of the number of total squadmates. For every additional option, they'll have to write more.

@Jebel Krong:
That is very beautful. I like the style.
