I'd say having her as XO would be a position of leadership, and a very important one considering the Normandy's role in the Reaper War.
Agreed. Shepard is at the sharp end. Everything hangs on her/his actions. If Shepard doesn't succeed the entire galaxy is doomed!
To enable Shepard's success s/he needs the very, very best. And that is Miranda.

Yvonne Strahovski! Sarah Walker! Miranda Lawson! Either way you put it, she is my favorite! No doubt! And what is up with the ****** and the beginning saying "Miranda has over-sexualized outfits"?! Seriously?! Who doesn't like having a super hot counterpart while kicking butt and saving the world?!
Does anybody agree with me?
I'm an Yvonne Strahovski fan, and yes I like both Sarah & Miranda characters. These are different characters but they have also some similarities.
About her outfit, I like the catsuits (even if I find the white one ugly). I'm one of those who would like to have Miranda back with catsuits or maybe with a light armor. Others prefer to see her in heavy armor ...
I think the best thing Bioware could do is to let the choice to the players.

Miranda's oufits are part of who she is. I, personally don't think they are "over-sexualized" at all.
I think she looks nice in what she wears, but, that's just my opinion

This. There is nobody better suited for being Shepard's second in command than Miranda.

So much this.
Miranda says that her looks are just as much intended to give her an advantage as her intelligence, her strength and her biotics.
She's a sexy, confident woman. She's obviously comfortable with her body. I don't see why she has to change.

What's wrong with her showing off her gorgeous body anyway?

Most likely she might play a role when Shepard decuides to take down Cerberus and take back the base if you kept it.Ieldra2 wrote...
I respectfully submit that XO of the Normandy is a role too small for Miranda Lawson.

I really like her black catsuit as well. Besides, who needs heavy armor when you have shields or biotic barriers? Also it really suits her character I think... armor doesn't. The only thing that bothers me is the heels, but I don't mind that much.

Agreed.
Note that all returning squadmates got "promotions" between games. Tali goes from tagalong kid to chief engineer. Wrex leads Clan Urdnot. Liara is the SB. The VS is a Spectre. Keeping her as just the XO is to keep her stagnant.

Well, I'm not fan of the high heels either, but I liked what Christina Norman said about this :
truffle Christina Norman
@MalcolmSwoboda as for heels, do video games really need to be realistic combat-footware simulators

Even when considering the differences in being the XO of the Normandy during "End of the World" galactic war time vs. being the XO on the Normandy for a single strike against the Collectors? I'd imagine it's not the same, at least given the stakes. I'd imagine after the war, she would move on from being XO and take on a bigger role.
If not, what could Miranda be promoted to?

My personal hope is that she'll be The Illusive Woman by game's end. I'd also like her knowledge of Lazarus to be important.

I agree.
But I also prefer her catsuit than an heavy armor during most of the combat missions in ME2, especialy for a biotic and an operative like Miranda. The only thing I would have liked : is something else than a breather mask during missions in hostile environments.
Like I said : let Miranda with her catsuits for the the players who likes her as she is, and give an optional armor for those who wants it.

Perhaps by the end of the game/war, she will be. I just think during the largest portion of it, she would be best served as Shepard's XO and then as Cerberus crumbles under TIM, she could take over.
