Normandy Mess Hall
(Shepard walks back to his seat with his tray only to hear Miranda and Liara burst into laughter)
Shepard: Did I miss something.
Miranda: (stops laughing) Just an old joke between friends. Nothing serious.
Shepard: Alright then. (goes to sit down)
Vega: (sits down across from Shepard) Looks like you're dealing with the whole "missus and the ex" thing sir.
Shepard: What do you mean?
Vega: You're lady and your ex are friends judging from the way they carry on. That means that they talk about things and considering that they know you from the inside out they're going to talk about all of those funny habits, nicknames, and stories about you.
Shepard: Then that laughing just then...
Vega: Could be, or it could just be a joke. Nothing like a little healthy paranoia eh sir?
Shepard: Yeah..I guess so. I should go.

That would be hilarious and awesome. Please tell me there's a youtube vid of what she says when you call her to check in.
Miranda: Thanks for leaving me to hold the line single-handed, Shepard.
Shepard: What, they didn't cover that in Cerberus Tactics 101?
Miranda: I played hookey the day they taught "Conducting fighting retreats while outnumbered 300-1 armed with only a crummy submachine gun and a stupid pair of heels."
Shepard (rubbing her thumb and forefinger together) : Here's the world's smallest violin playing a sad song for you. At least you have plot armor so you didn't end up like the other poor schnooks.
Miranda (rolling her eyes) : I wish I could just swab your cabin in a maid outfit or something to show my appreciation.
Shepard: You can, but it's an expensive upgrade.

I think whoever was your love in ME2 will be in ME3 as a full squadmate, but only that romance from ME2, but that's just what I think.
I agree that team member presence will probably not be determined by a romance, but Bioware said there would be more replayability this time, and since gameplay-related replayability beyond the six classes isn't really needed, I take that to mean there will be more mutually exclusive paths.jtav wrote...
No, because that doesn't actually reduce work for the developers and it makes the romances much more important than they are. Writing and voicing six mutually exclusive paths is not an efficient use of resources at all, especially considering the optional nature of romances.
I'm still thinking of the very first revelation about the team in the GameInformer article in March. I think it was the most honest revelation and everything that came after just weaseling around to mask the fact that we won't see a lot of certain characters. They said there would be some characters that are core, around which the story revolves. Others that will join you temporarily and others that will be cameos.flemm wrote...

oh cool, cause the way Bioware said it just made me think there would be a lot less roles for ME3, but this is better, if it happens in the end of development
In what way? Because there has been a lot of talk about the squad being smaller. But also that it will work differently, with perhaps no permanent squad members at all. They've also said everyone will be returning in some capacity, even the DLC characters.
For part of LotSB, Liara is the lead NPC without actually being on the squad (she later joins it), which looks pretty similar to the demo we have seen of Mordin's mission in ME3 (he seems to be accompanying the squad, but in addition to the two normal squad members).

But....just saying that the fact Miranda can hold the line solo if loyal is not part of her plot armor. Do the math - the same applies to any team member with a loyal hold-the-line score of two or more: Jacob, Samara, Legion, Thane, Garrus, Zaeed and Grunt can do the same. That sometimes people die when holding the line and everyone is loyal is due to Jack, Tali, Mordin and Kasumi pulling the score down.

Which means, that if Miranda isn't part of that core group, she'll effectively be sidelined and won't be a main character, not a character "around which the story revolves". This lies at the heart of the fear of Miranda not being a "permanent team member", and that's why I phrased my question at GamesCom as "Will Miranda be a main character". Apparently, Mike Gamble wasn't prepared for a question being phrased like that and answered "She will have a large role, but I can't say anything about her being a squadmate". Which admittedly is something of a non-answer given the circumstances, but at least somewhat reassuring as in excluding one or two worst-case scenarios.

That was for the LI's that can end up dying during the SM.
Miranda can't die once you romance her
She does have plot armor at that point. Even if she is carried off by the swarm, she'll return next scene.American Tradegy wrote...
that's about 99% true
she can still be carried off by the seeker swarms

The only ways for her to die is to bring her unloyal to the final boss or let her hold the line unloyal with a particular combination of team members.

I know that
I'm just wondering how one of my friends got her killed while she was loyal

By lying that she was loyal, while she wasn't.
There is a rare glitch where she's carried away. You know it's a glitch because she reappears later. I know it's rare because getting carried away by the swarm while in a squad with Shepard and Miranda is my preferred way of letting someone die. I've done that a dozen times or more. Miranda always survived.American Tradegy wrote...

A character is said to have plot armor if he/she survives a scene where according to its rules, she should have died, for no other reason than she's needed for the plot. See the TvTropes Entry for a more extensive explanation.MassEffect4Eva1710 wrote...
I know this sounds really stupid and I should know this but what is plot armor? Some people have metioned on here and I have no idea what they are talking bout. She doesn't wear armor so im guessing its something else.
