I'm only interested in a romance confrontation if I can get Shep dumped for attempting to pull "Can I have both of you?" and the LIs becoming buddies over why men are pigs.

That's barely registering on my probability meter... sorry Image IPB

The one thing I'm pretty sure the game won't do is remind male players what total a-holes they are. They/we get that too much in real life already Image IPB

I think everything will start from a discussion, obviously shepard will have to choose between them.

I will say it again, the only person who's going to have a confrontation for the whole "cheating" issue is Shepard, now I want there to be the option to explain your actions to both the ME1 and ME2 LI's, if you decide to hold out on both of them then that does constitute "cheating" and to me there should be consequences for that decision.

@Jtav

This would of course make Shepard the Leia to Miranda's Han.

I could actually envision a moment of ultimate win where this plays out just prior to Miranda sitting down in TIW's chair, and it's the last thing you ever say to each other.

I'd probably be crying my eyes out, but it would be worth it.

I agree 100%. She left you in the first place, called you a traitor, refused to listen to reason, and just gave you a big FU.  So, in that way, I moved on, and I will repeat, she has to fight to win me back. Till then, Shep did NOT cheat. If he starts to mess with both their feelings or chooses "Can I have you both?" option in ME3, then that is a whole different story.

Explain to me how Shep is Leia. *confused*

And am I the only one not even remotely pissed at the VS? I'm holding out for Kaidan myself.

I'm not pissed either, more curious to see what happened between the time we last saw them and when we first meet them in ME3 (aside from becoming a Spectre)

Pretty sure Dr. Doctor meant Shep says, "I love you," and Miranda says, "I know."

As a romance conflict, I honestly couldn't care less. It wouldn't be in any of my saves anyway, though I guess I might eventually make one, if it sounded interesting. The Alliance/Cerberus thing should be there, though.

Kaidan, I'm not sure about him, he seems to have more of an open-minded view, and I understood his reasons for not joining us on Horizon, for some reason I'm not pissed off at him(I romanced Liara in ME1, and saved Kaidon in my Maleshep playthrough, and I do care for Ash, but like I said and probably will say again, she needs to fight to win us back. )
so to answer your question, I do care for the VS characters(Ashley as in romance.)

My difficulties wit fidelity boil down to "Why have romance content in one game when you can have it in two?"

Shepard is the more emotional of the pair, he'd be the one who tells Miranda that he loves her. Or would do things that get under Miranda's skin just out of the fact that he cares about her:

Miranda: Why the hell did you that?

Shepard: (clutching his arm)  That trooper had his gun aimed at you.

Miranda: And you just had to take a bullet for me didn't you?

Shepard: (inhales sharply) That's it in a nutshell.

Miranda: While it is good to see that chivalry isn't dead, that was a rather poorly thoughtout course of action.

Shepard: I'm starting to see that now.

I am not upset at either VS over Horizon as well. I am actually liking that drama in ME2 and looking forward to how it plays out in ME3. Liara's coldness with Shepard was explained and now I think that there will be a nice twist to Horizon.

I'm going to renew my call for Miranda as a s/s interest. I'm kind of floored by how man s/s supporters love her and not in a "lesbians are hot" way.

honestly, I wanted an s/s choice for Miranda in ME-3 but at that point, I hadn't played a FemShep save yet. After getting thru Freedom's Progress, I couldn't imagine her and Miranda getting together.......

My only concern is that Miranda might monopolize my femShep playthroughs, too. At the moment, my femSheps have three different LIs and one has none. My maleSheps....Miranda, Miranda, Miranda and Miranda.

I wonder if Miranda will be catsuit Miranda again.....I wish we could get a leather jacket/low-cut-shirt/boot-cut-jean Miranda......

Won't happen. That doesn't fit with the style of the universe. IIRC, all the women in the game had either uniforms, jumpsuits, armor or formal wear.  Or superhero outfits like Samara's

The nearest to something in-universe and stylish that isn't formal wear is Liara's LotSB outfit. While that wouldn't fit Miranda, I can't imagine that they'd give Miranda the same catsuits again. I say they'll keep the colors but try a new cut, or they'll just modify the catsuits a little so they won't look quite as oversexualized.

What are your expectations for romance? I'm not expecting much more than what we got in ME2: about 1.5 extra conversations and a love scene. I'd like to keep the fact that there are two ways (playful or earnest) to go about it, but I doubt we'll get it.

About the same amount of romance content, with the possible exception of the final scene which may be somewhat extended since it's, well, the final scene and sets the stage for the epilogue. I would love to see two different paths through the romance like in ME2 and think that yes, we might get that again since it isn't just Shepard who's different there, the two paths emphasize two different aspects of Miranda. We had the same choice in ME1 with Kaidan and Ashley and possibly the other LIs in ME2 though I don't recall exactly; I don't think they'll change the pattern.

As to how Miranda's romance is played out, I like the idea of two paths as well. It just gives me more options. For example, one path where the two characters are in love and nothing is more important to them than each other, except saving the galaxy. And one path where you basically have two workaholic types who are more invested in the ME equivalent of a career path than in romance, but who really enjoy each other's company in every sense of the word. Something for the romantic in me, and something for the cynic. That would be ideal.

"Nothing is more important to them than each other" is something I wouldn't like to see. I'd rather see "They're never far from each other's minds but they also have self-appointed duties that take them elsewhere". Both your romantic and your cynic path are too extreme for my liking, but if I had to choose, I'd take (surprise) the latter.

Also this is not the only way the romance paths can differ. I'd like at least one of them to feature a confident Miranda who has made peace with her origins and embraces who and what she is, and a Shepard who appreciates that.

EDIT: A relevant piece of information from Casey Hudson in a May 2011 Kotaku article, which I guess is originally from PC gamer, about the different paths for new and returning players:

BioWare has told PC Gamer that there are no new romance options in Mass Effect 3, the emphasis in the final game being on resolving the relationships you made in the first two titles.

“So this is more about how you, if you’re a new player, how you start these romances with the existing characters” says BioWare’s Casey Hudson. “If you’ve had relationships with previous characters, then it’s your opportunity to resolve those. And again, it’s in the context of a ‘World War II’-type setting, so you don’t really know if you’re going to survive, or what kind of a world is going to live beyond the story. So it’s kind of that situation.”

I had forgotten this. I'm wondering if it's still true. I guess it's likely there there won't be a new female LI, maybe not even a new human female character at all. That would be good news. I'm not so sure about male LIs. Has anything surfaced about Vega as an LI?

BTW, in a recent tweet it was also said that some but not all of the ME1 and ME2 LIs would be available as romance options for players who don't import or didn't have any romance with them in the earlier games.

I don't get what motivation there could be for a confrontation between Ashley and Miranda. It's been two years, Ashley moved on and for good measure called Shep a traitor which is pretty much the absolute worst thing you can accuse a soldier of being. If the relationship hadn't been over before Ashley ended it right there.

Now if Shep romances Ashley in ME3 after romancing Miranda in ME2 I can see the point of a confrontation. Bloody cad...

You know what? I would like to see Shepard succeed under specific circumstances. Wouldn't that be totally unexpected?

Actually, I really shouldn't have, but I thought that to be pretty offensive.
