That's taken a little out of context. To clarify: I should've said morality - understood as what people usually mean in everyday speech when they use that word - isn't what defines Miranda.
Hmmm, yeah, I guess we could say that conventional morality doesn't define her, but that she has her own definition of the concept that helps define her actions and motivations.

It's hypothetical, even in my headcanon.CuseGirl wrote...

In my mind. As I said, it's headcanon. Or do you mean where in time? Right after the SM, while they're celebrating their victory. Before Arrival, before they know the plot of ME3 will separate them again. "The" mission is generic.
got it.....if they force that choce on me, i'm gonna be so pissed....i think i might make an extra save right before the major mission, i'm not losing Miranda....
The reason Miranda brings this up is that she doesn't want to be the reason Shepard fails a major mission. It's *the* big stumbling block in the romance. Of course, my Shepard thinks the same - he doesn't want to be the reason she fails a major mission, so he understands perfectly where she's coming from. But he sets a limit and implicitly says he'll always come for her, unless what he had to sacrifice was as big as the fate of humanity. It's a roundabout declaration of dedication, for both of them.
Of course, if such a situation arose in ME3, I'm not sure if Cyrus Shepard would go through with it. There are so many people who betrayed him, so many idiots and so many who just don't care. Kate Bowman is dead, and Delan lives. Symbolic, really. If at the end of ME3, all that's left is the SR2 plus crew and team, including Miranda, that will be an end I can live with.

Well, it's still very much on the table as a possibility.

Why can't you? As I understand it Mass Effect doesn't give you second chances with an LI if you passed them over/ turned them down, but if you stayed single all this time, what's stopping you? Besides I'm not buying the "no new LI" schtick. I'm pretty sure a big part of why Vega exists is to replace Kaidan and Jacob as a male LI.
Also, salute scene?

It is a little extreme and not very realistic if you could do that and just be fine afterward. But in this series I've decided to let go of my usual cyncism regarding romance and adopt a huge suspension of disbelief that sappy stuff can and does happen.
It's just that this scenario has the potential to indelibly haunt instead of enhance the relationship. But then, the sacrifice would only have been made in total vanity were Shepard and Miranda unhappy in its wake, right?
But the way my Shepard figures it this relationship is the one time he'll use his ruthlessness for himself. So if that means sacrificing a lot of people so be it.
Him being the saviour of galactic civilization, I wouldn't fault Shepard for feeling like a little selfishness is in order. If it's a personal connection that will see him through to the end, then that's what needs to be preserved. When the storm is all around and the galaxy needs you at your best, it's not easy, nor necessarily wise, to let go of your rock. I get that.

It's the scene at the end of the friendship path, as I recall.

Not quite. It's the scene you get if you have no ME2 romance at all. If I had my way, it'd be the lead in to her romance scene.
So, wait, when/how does this happen, exactly?

Exactly. Saving her just so she hates you would be a terrible blow. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'd hate that.
I think a pesonal connection is totally necessary for Shepard to make it through. When Liara asks you what you're fighting for in your cabin you can say the fate of the galaxy to sound noble (like I did), but the fact of the matter is the whole galaxy is too impersonal. Sure you intellectually grasp the significance but as even Mordin admits, you need that personal connection to put in in perspective. So I think at his most soul-baring truthfulness, my Shepard will admit he fights for Miranda first and a galaxy they can live in second.

Right I remember now. If you haven't "locked in" with anybody for romance this scene triggers right before you go up to your cabin and stare at the picture of your ME1 romance. Basically as soon as you tell Joker to go for the Omega 4 relay you turn to leave the galaxy map and Miranda talks to you then. I wasn't expecting it and I did like the scene. However I like "promise you won't die" better.

Heh. I guess maybe I've never seen the scene you're referring to then. I'm pretty sure I remember the salute, but maybe it was in a vid or something.

What's your favorite thing Miranda says or does throughout ME2? And let's please stay away from the known controversial quotes. I just spent all day discussing one and like I said earlier all I want to do right now is admire her, and not have to argue some tertiary miniscule detail. I know I don't have to argue anything, but still. Just want to see some love for a while:happy:
I liked just about all the input she gives Shepard through the mission. I thought that even where Miranda thought things I did not agree with (give Cerberus the geth, do not unleash Okeer's prototype) her advice was smart and thought-out. That she just naturally displayed that kind of leadership made me respect her a ton.

For any male Shep playthrough there are two true constants in ME2:
1. You always hug Tali.
2. You always romance Miranda.
No exceptions:P

I think we have all good-looking screenshots of the LM in various versions. If you can find something not seen so far, go for it.jtav wrote...
Speaking of screenshots I'm about to do Miranda's LM. Any requests?

As for the romance - I know I can't do "Damn it, you're right" unless I *know* I can restart the romance in ME3. Why should you be different....
And I rarely hug Tali. Most of my Shepards aren't than close to her.
