Well, when we first meet her, she's the head of a science team, so it's not that big of stretch tbh. Many of the science officers in Trek are humans, not robots, and they are basically the head of the ship's science team.

I'm not doubting her because she's human, there are just more qualified people than her for that position. One of them being your avatar.

Mordin's most likely a temp in ME3, one of the possible scenarios with Miranda that I'd like to see is her being the science officer aboard the Normandy, and she'd be available as a squadmate only in Cerberus related missions, if she's dead they can replace her with someone like Kahlee Sanders or something.

That way she can have more screen-time and enough interaction while still contributing actively to the war.

Edit: and no she wasn't just an overseer in Lazarus, the logs you see when you first wake up are more than enough of a confirmation of her intellect.

Well we know Mordin won't be. And she's able correct Wilson's estimates. She shows some degree of competence, though she lack's Mordin's brilliance. I suspect she'll have no official role, though she might take over the lab trying to fix Lazarus.

At most I suppose you could argue that she is just better at handling a crisis situation than Wilson, who is panicking. But she's correcting his readings and telling him what to do, so at the very least she has a thorough understanding of the scientific and medical aspects of the project.

The LI status don't get applied to every character. By example Jack and Garrus are LIs but they don't have a backstory that could help Shepard.

Liara is the SB and is the only LI that cant die.
VS is a Spectre and CO of the Normandy.
Miranda and Jacob can have a Cerberus arc.
Tali can take the quarian arc (if she isnt exiled).
We already know something about Thane and the hanars.

Out of all the returning squadmates, Miranda is the one I'd trust the least. So the VS survivor won't be alone in their worries.

A time ago I thniked that the only returning characters will be jack, thane, garrus, grunt, tali, miranda. The reason: they are the only ones with aap =P.

There's only two character besides Miranda that can take the scientist officer role.

Mordin
is already commited with the genophage, but he could still take care of
both jobs. The other is Kahlee Sanders, but I'm not so sure.

Ashley turns to leave.

Shepard: You say she's Cerberus. How do you know I'm not?

some crew members would probably be in the sameboat with the VS, but who knows.
Though the VS would not trust Miranda(especially Ashley and especially if romanced) and there will be some annoyances.

I actually agree with you there, not because I dislike the romance (it's the only one I gravitate toward), but because it shouldn't determine Miranda's role in the story.

I think Grunt's always been pretty unlikely. Most basic reason is there just isn't any story potential there. He's become a full-fledged Krogan, so now he gets to kick some Reaper butt and that's all there is to it, really. Then we have Vega as the new tank. And a dev comment that "Grunt has his moments, and they are awesome," which basically amounts to saying, "he's a temp, but it's really cool," which is naturally what they'll aim for with all the temp squad members.

I like the romance okay, but it's more of a pleasant diversion. I don't really care if the get a happy ending, just if Miranda does.

I thinking Miranda's getting Overlord/LotSB type of coverage. 2-4 missions at most. And where the love interest angle kicks in is of course at the very end. Kind of disappointed. But maybe those 2-4 missions a REALLY long.
