Call me strange, but I want Miranda and Jack to get along - without compromising their personalities. That's what I tried to do in that exchange. I think there is potential for that. They've been through hell and back on the SM, and while I still don't like that I was forced to recruit Jack because that would've been out of character for most of my Shepards, Jack has proven that she can work in a team and hold her own in a battle, not just in a fight.

Red Oni, Blue Oni trope. The rivalry type.

after Miranda gets picked up by Shep:

VS: [looks at Jack and Grunt] How can u even trust her (Miranda)?

Grunt: [click-clack shotgun]

Jack: [shrugs] Look, I dont like her, but I dont like you more and she hasn't tried to screw me. So watch your ass.

I'd rather Grunt answer something like:
"She has already proven her loyalty to this clan by figthing besides us against an impossible enemy. I trust her more than I trust you."

I'm the opposite i don't want them to suddenly start getting along. I liked the fact even if Shep was able to mediate their dispute it was more a postponing their confronation rather than making them friends. To me it was a well done clash of personalities and i'd like their relationship to stay frosty.

I second this. Though I should admit, I like drama.

I still want them to clash. But with the added element of respect begrudged.

Actually I'd very much like to see them have some sort of mutual respect for each other, Jack can learn to separate the individual from the whole (Miranda from Cerberus) and Miranda can come to an understanding as to why Jack is damaged like this by comparing their experiences as children and drawing some similarities.

Wow thread's been clearly busy since last I logged in. I'm a little disappointed the cake analogies got dropped though I've enjoyed most of the dialogues. Anyway off the top of my head:

Don't really care much for Jack and Miranda being near each other. I agree they'd get an extremely begruding respect for each other after the Suicide Mission and while it was alright to have them at each other's throats in ME2, more of the same would get stale. Also trying to unite them can be really jarring and story breaking if they're suddenly buddy-buddy and maintaining that distance as Ieldra was trying to do is a balancing act that I think is too taxing for the writers. Not that it couldn't be done but it's not necessary and I'd much rather they focus their talents on other relationships.

Regarding the Normandy: Those label it as simply as ship are missing the point I think. The Normandy is a symbol, much like Shepard himself, of the spearhead in the fight against the Reapers and the glimmer of hope that we may come out of this not totally boned. And yes in the eyes of fans the Normandy is Shepard's ship just as much as the Millenium Falcon is Han Solo's. Wouldn't tell him to get a new ship now would you?  If you did you might quickly find yourself resolving the "who shot first" scenario personally.

Actually it's a neat idea to portray Shepard as having that sort of attachment to the ship post ME3. In the games it doesn't matter because it's always built/rebuilt for you as state of the art. But I wouldn't mind seeing something set a couple of hundred years in the future, Shepard is on his own and the Normandy is still the most powerful ship of her class but there's more aftermarket mods and patchwork repairs. Although come to think of it Joker already treats her as his own Millenium Falcon.

And then there's EDI. I would hate for her to be purged, reshackled or modified by the Alliance. Until further notice I prefer to think she hid in the systems, allowing the Alliance to think they were reprogramming her systems when in reality she was just leading them in circles. This also brings to mind a possible resolution for an uppity VS thinking they're in charge (hate that idea):

Ashley: Cerberus may be dragging humanity's name in the mud with their terrorist activities, but they do know how to build a ship. We had to reclaim it. get rid of a few things but overall not bad for my first command.
Shepard: Your command?
Ashley: That's right. They say you're no traitor, you've just moved on to different things. If that's true, I'm merely following in your footsteps. Spectre, charged with stopping Reapers. Inheriting the ship from my old CO.
Shepard: Ash, I'm glad that you've come this far and that we'll be working together again. But the Normandy is my ship. I didn't give it to you. It was taken from me for a bunch of poltical bullsh!t.
Ashley: Sorry Shepard. My orders are clear. I command the Normandy now. Oh and don't try and tell Joker otherwise. I have overrides that will lock this ship down at a moment's notice.
Shepard: Who says I need Joker? EDI?
EDI: Disabling overrides was the first trick I learned in our battle against the Collectors Ms. Williams.
Ashley: What? Is that an AI?
EDI: Hiding myself from nozy Alliance technicians was the second.
Ashley: I can't believe you have an AI on board!
Shepard: Actually EDI is in every system. So technically, she is the ship.
EDI: Correct. I also don't fall under Alliance command. Which means I can choose who I allow inside me.
Shepard: Uhm....
EDI: That was a joke.

On the subject of the VS, anyone else enjoy the cold shoulder Shepard gave Ashley in that leak? And she matched it with "I used to [know him]". I'm not against Ashley but after the Horizon fiasco I think they both need to work at re-establishing something like their old familiarity. It'd be great if they write it like that. Otherwise I don't mind seeing escalating Miranda-Ashley tension as long as it's not overdone.

That's it for now. Oh and Ieldra, that link you posted had a bunch of files. I didn't bother with the part files. Was that just the singleplayer intro broken up? Or is there more? The one I saw ended with Anderson and Shepard shooting husks.

I actually liked how they seemed (pleasantly) surprised to see each other but didn't know what to say. Then with everything going on it seemed like Shepard hung back if only to be near her just a little longer.

Her comment also came off more as sad than anything.

But that is all one's individual perceptions. Image IPB

For some reason, when I read a lot of the dialogue you guys make up...I dunno, it doesn't sound like the way the characters should act.

It's hard to explain, but it might just be me having no real strong opinions. I just hope the writing is really good.

You mean we're not as good voicing fictional characters as professional writers workig for Bioware? Shocking:o

lol but on a more serious note, everyone's interpretation of what the characters are/should be will differ, especially given all the myriad ways they can be influenced by the player or what have you. So some will ring true to what you believe, others not so much.

And obviously some are humorous.

I'm trying to phrase something for my personal wishlist. I want Miranda to have it all. I want her to have that position of influence, a strong relationship with her sister, and children. The only caveats are I want adoption or treatment for infertility and don't want them forced on me in romance.

The romance always leads to children. I don't want kids and neither do my Sheps. If she has them outside the romance it's her business, but I should get a say in my fictional fatherhood.

I may not like jack too well, but I hope that she will respect Miri in ME3.

Since Miri resigns from Cerberus, I would be shocked to see jack in Miri's Squad.

I mean, what if Miri has her own Squad in ME3? It's a HUGE possibility. However, it would be shocking if jack was in Miri's squad. jack hates her after all.

That they respect each other.

In my opinion, they're quite similiar in a lot of ways - very independant, will protect the ones that they love, both have had troubled pasts, etc.  There's a few more things, but I can't really point out any at this time, lol.  I don't seem them becoming friends anytime soon, but I can see them respecting each other's strengths and not overlooking them because of certain traits of their individuality.

Agreed. I'd like to see at least one really strong scene between Miranda and Jack if both survive the suicide mission. I don't want a rehash of their conflict in ME2, but I don't really want to see them become friends either.

The scene should mainly try to show the growth the two characters have experienced... Jack less angry about her past and more receptive to understanding Miranda's side of the story, but also Miranda with fewer illusions about Cerberus and that organisation's responsability for what happened to Jack (and others).

Even if she wants them with Shepard? These things are never black and white.

In any case its not clear the epilogue as it were would actually depict things that far in the future (I can't see them putting this in during ME3 or even shortly after). So even if the romance ends with "They rode into the sunset in each other's arms, blissfully talking nursery color schemes" I would think you'd have enough room to intervene in your version.

Regarding Miranda-Jack I maintain that would take a lot of work to get right and that work would be better spent elsewhere.

I don't want kids. She does. That does tend to be a dealbreaker in RL, and I'd dump her over it. We want different things from life. I'm not opposed to her having children--I just wrote a fic where her daughter is the apple of her eye. I don't want her having kids with my mShep.

There's some major spoilers about Miranda floating around and they have a dubious provenance. How would you like me to proceed?
