For my part I think she should get a couple of better scenes in ME 3, show some "medical drama" of Chakwas in action, trying to save a squadmate for example.

Yeah, that would be cool. I was actually a little surprised that they didn't do more with her in ME2. Even just some extra dialog would have made sense.

Dr. Chakwas is more of a familiar face on board the Normandy than anything else. Although having her secretly be an agent from Alliance Intelligence would be quite a surprise:

Miranda: After all we've done, the Alliance is just going to haul Shepard off to Earth for a show trial.

Chakwas: I wouldn't exactly call it a show trial, my report to Alliance Intelligence should help clear some things up. (notices Miranda's expression) Really now Miss Lawson, you never wondered why a doctor with a service record as long as mine just so happened to join your cell?

Miranda: I thought that it was just out of loyalty to Shepard, how much do you know?

Chakwas: Enough to keep him out of trouble for now, of course knowing Shepard he'll find more.

Miranda: Tell me about it.

Can't say I begrudge a beautiful picture of our beautiful Miri  !

But what does it have to do with Doctor Chakwas  ?

That's actually a picture of Miranda pondering the question of Dr. Chakwas' true purpose aboard the Normandy Image IPB

Nothing of course - or can you imagine MIranda thinking of her while looking at Oriana :P? It's just the top-of-the-page picture that's becoming a tradition around here.

Edit:
Nice banter, Dr.Doctor. Tell me about it, indeed  But then, perhaps Shepard's enemies shouldn't even bother - because Shepard refuses to stay dead.

We've talked about how Miranda envy's Mordin's work with the STG. Any idea how Miranda feels about Dr. Chakwas as another doctor on board the Normandy? We know Dr. Chakwas tells Shepard that she's working for him and not Cerberus. Do you think there is any distrust between Miranda and Dr. Chakwas? The Suicide Mission shows Miranda working hard on getting Dr. Chakwas out of that cocoon... and Miranda does suggest not sending anyone back with them to the Normandy.

I don't think Miranda has a strong opinion of Dr. Chakwas. Her envy of Mordin comes from the fact that he was STG, which is similar to Cerberus in its use of technological innovation and covert operations but has a longer history of success. Miranda compares Cerberus to the STG, too, but likely she knows they can't match the STG's competence yet.

Hmm...wouldn't that be a nice place for a picnic with Miranda?

:o...:P wow!! The detailing on her catsuit there is awesome, great atmospheric shot as well. What texture mod are you using Ieldra, I mean I actually like the black latex/liquid look to her loyalty outfit but the proper leather detailing does look really sweet

@GuitarShrekUK:
I'm using JeanLuc761's high-res texture mods. He's made them for all ME2 team members. Find them in this thread on the ME2 characters forum. Not quite sure if it's exactly the same, since I'm using a revised version he made at my request with a different skin texture, but the outfit should be identical. This is the "ultra" version. I haven't tried the optimized one.

Just popping here, to express my support
I liked Miranda since the first pt in ME2 (despite particular ass-shot, that screamed from the mile "here!!! sexinezz!!". It was just meh, even If I don't have a single prude bone in my body).

She was practical, strong and feminine at the same time, and even if her Cerberus idealism was a turn off, I knew where she was coming from, and that was enough for me. I hope to see more of her in ME3.

this when you mentioned liking several characters. I'd likely get
uncomfortable if someone attacked Ashley or Kaidan but people here
rarely do.

Because we are all xenophobic, Cerberus sympatisers on here, of course. Ashley and Kaidan are human. (j/k, j/k).

Actually I do not hate anyone of the main characters. I have zero interest in Tali, but that is just a personal preference and I do not hate her (I felt the same about Liara pre-LotSB). And actually I really like Garrus.

Agreed on both parts. Surprising how much many of her fans like the more distanced side of her as much as the more open one she shows in private later. About the ass shots..... I couldn't have said it better.

She was practical, strong and feminine at the same time, and even if her Cerberus idealism was a turn off, I knew where she was coming from, and that was enough for me. I hope to see more of her in ME3.

We will see more of her. Exactly how much, that's still up in the air.

A little OT, but several people asked me what I meant with my comment about jtav's Matt Shepard two pages back. It is this:

Most Shepards in fanfiction are pretty generic. Most maleSheps, anyway (Can't say much about femSheps since I haven't read many). This one sticks in the mind, like fongiel's John Shepard from "Rebirth" and Elyvern's John Shepard in "Degrees of Inheritance", only more so.

This is not surprising. Most people say that Shepard is rather well-defined, and that's true for a game protagonist, but in fact all the companions, team members etc. are much more defined. If you write about them, you just need to explore and interpret the existing character traits. With Shepard you need to add more original material to make them interesting, and many fanfic writers fail to do that.

Now back to Miranda....

Heh, I feel so warm and fuzzy ;) Thanks Ieldra

Interesting. She should have a high plot relevance, being formerly TIM's asset (our new disnay villain, I heard).

It all breaks on how it will be executed - If she won't join because her sister will be in danger, she has to focus etc. I'll understand. If her sister is safe, and nothing else(?) will be stopping her, but "thou shall must" emerges, then I... deal with it (possibly by shooting everything around).

If you choose Jack as the fire team leader, I find Miranda's comment totally appropriate. You've got to be kidding me, indeed.

True. I like Jack, but I'd never give her the command of part of my team. At least in ME2 (she seems more mature in ME3, putting aside her hate of Cerberus and Miranda).

Now hold on Ieldra2 and hh89: In defense of Subject Zero.If you talk to her and let her tell you about her service record. She and a team, stole a top notch starship.Jack and Co. also destroyed a space station.I found that as young as Jack is.She may very well have alot more field expeirence than Miranda does.As unlikely of a choice for leader of a Fire team that she is.She does a hell of alot better than some others.Granted I wasn't quick to choose her for this myself. But she didn't let me down.

Tell me that after the SM, and I believe you. There Jack proved herself. After the SM, I'd take her anywhere. But before all I had of her was stories, no idea how she did all that, or even if she did, plus her insane stunt with the three YMIRs which wasn't less insane for being successful. Experience or not, Jack introduced herself as highly volatile and reinforced that impression in the conflict with Miranda. Not a trait I'd accept in a team leader.

Do you notice that during the Suicide Mission that Operative Lawson, never once suggest that anyone else should do anything of importance. She only ever volunteers herself.

(1) Untrue, as flemm already pointed out.
(2) She's your second-in-command, if you split your team, of course she would be the first choice.
(3) The comment about the biotic specialist wasn't meant as volunteering herself over someone more competent. It is her task to give you advice, and - ok, that's metareasoning but still valid - she can't recommend someone who isn't guaranteed to be on the team at this point. Jack, Thane and Jacob can already be dead at this point, and Samara is optional.  Miranda is the only biotic guaranteed to be on the team at this point.

Yeah, that's what we all thought. That's also where the biggest question mark lies.

Let's say that while her story arc has potential, there is a good chance you will need many bullets.

Meh the only issue I have with the biotic comment is when it comes after Samara. Then my Shep just wants to facepalm.

Well, I can't say I have a big issue even then, since the dialog is supposed to present a couple of different options to the player, who then makes the choice. They already did "somebody who's not qualified volunteers and Miranda advises against it" with the tech specialist, so here they did "the most qualified person volonteers and Miranda thinks others could theoretically do it." So, I dunno... The other options would be to repeat what they did with the tech specialist or have Miranda say, yeah, Samara's the best choice, at which point the choice hasn't really been left up to the player.

She could've just stayed quiet.

I mean...sometimes there really isn't a need to put your input in everything.

Well, the design is to present two sides of each choice. If there's nothing after Samara's lines, that's like telling the player to choose Samara and then asking, "Who do you choose?" With Miranda's lines you at least get a situation where it's more like, "This character thinks she can do it, but these others might also work, so who do you choose?"

The way it's set-up, following Miranda's advice during the first stage of the SM produces best-case, but not during the second stage. So, that strikes me as a fairly balanced way of handling it. Possibly with the additional idea that this might trip some players up with what is otherwise a fairly obvious choice (because Miranda's advice works well during the first part).

To me it's not really tellin the player not to choose Samara with her "in theory any biotic could do it." statement. It's just saying someone other than Samara in theory could do it...which the selection screen would do. Not to mention that "in theory." isn't reassuring. I'm not willing to risk my crews life on your "maybes" someone else can do it too Miranda. Uh...yeah...I'm gonna go with the Asari Matriarch who is the most powerful biotic on the squad and made the suggestion based off an assement of her own skills and not a guessetimate of others. Or Miranda could even go "It's your call Shepard." If her lines can alternate based off the ST leader you pick they should be able to alternate based of Jack or Samara (or neither one of them being there). It's not one of her shining moments as far as I'm concerned.

To me that's equally bad as her "this base is a betrayal." line to some people. It's just...no. It's not logical and I don't know why she'd say anything if Samara is there other than supporting Samara's "I could do it." line. The design being for player benefit doesn't make it any less of a stupid thing to say.

I'm not sure about that. She has doubts about Jacob and he works perfectly fine. And really I don't think the player should be "tripped up" during the SM. There's no point other than getting characters killed and making BW's job harder for ME3.

She just indicates that there are other options, which is a lot stronger than leaving it up to the selection screen. It isn't left up to the selection screen for the other choices either.

And, as you point out, she's not saying "Don't choose Samara," only that Samara is not the only possible choice, which is accurate. If Jack's around, that would include Jack.

The "in theory" indicates that she's not sure, which is also accurate and not misleading at all.

He volonteers for tech specialist, as I recall. That's where Miranda has her doubts. He works as fire team leader.

I just find it out of place for her to offer an inferior alternative when there's one that's superior. It's a stupid statement as far as I'm concerned.  . It's like someone looking at a gaming computer and there's one with a GTX 590 and another with a with a GTX360 and she goes "well in theory the 360 could run the game too..." uh...yeah but we have the 590 which we *know* will work far better so who cares?

Excuse the nerd analogy.

And actually I find her suggesting Jack as an alternative laughable. Just...no I really don't see that.

At best I see her scrambling to put in unneeded input at worse trying to subtly get Shep to pick her instead. Either way it doesn't look good. (And I'm aware of metagaming info but that doesn't stop the line from being dumb to me as I'm sure some of the people who hear her betrayal line feel).

Nope she doubts him after he's selected for squad team leader something like "oh we'll see if you can handle it." or somesuch. I thought it was pretty rude myself.

Meh... it's just there to reassure the players that they have options. Same with Miranda shooting down Jacob for volunteering for the vents. Or Jack/Garrus/Jacob questioning Miranda's leadership ability. Afterall it is a suicide mission; "making a list, and checking it twice" should be a given.

Personally, since my first playthrough I've gone with Jack for the biotic bubble so it really doesn't matter to me.

I wouldn't say it's so much doubt as -- "I hope you're ready for this". She knows him best and they have a personal relationship. The comment isn't out of place.

I'm still baffled as to why Jacob can be picked for the vents in the first place.

Did BW just want to give people an easy way to kill him or something?
