Fighting and telling someone to keep their hands off isn't really the same. Sure I'd tell someone to keep their distance from someone who I'd consider to be my girl, but if there's need to fight then it's just too much. If the person who's being fought over doesn't have the guts or doesn't make a choice, then he/she isn't worth being fought over.
In ME's case it's just, that Shepard would pretty much allow them to fight over him and therefore he'd need to show some level of interest for both of them. I don't think that's Miranda's cupt of tea. She'd be hurt sure, she'd probably not show it, but in the end she could get pretty much any other man, that she'd ever want.
She doesn't need Shepard.
What I am hoping for is a scene that no matter who Shepard picks, he & the player feel like a putz. If either woman looks hurt, there are tears (not outright bawling but tears of pain) and heartbreak ... never mind Shepard, I'll feel like a heel. And that is what we (Shepard & I) should feel like.
Will there be goonba's who will giggle like 12-year-olds and enjoy it (ego boost)? Probably, but I don't think about those players. I know that there are some of us who are really engaged in the stories that we are crafting, love the characters and want that emotional POW! To me this triangle is worse than Virmire because Shepard can't blame this on Saren or the reapers. This is something that he himself created. Even though he is a good guy, he should not be able to just pick one, shake the others hand and whistle off in the sunset. Each choice should carry a negative consequence ... any adult would understand that.
I can see both Miranda and Ash saying nasty things about each other, but not when in the same room and not to each other. Let's hope that Bioware thinks the same or if they do decide to have a showdown that it is done so well that I retract my "no showdown" wish.
Can Miranda have her pick? Absolutely. But having those choices does nothing when you love someone. It's like when your dog dies that you loved and someone says "here's a puppy, all better ... I mean, come on why cry over that dog when there are so many others you can have?"

What?
In my story she really loves Shepard. If he leaves her, it's going to hurt and I really don't know how she would act or how he will act. I just hope that he shows some frackin' emotion during their (private) talk .. some remorse & regret. No matter which woman gets the "dear Jane" speech ... if he delivers it in monotone and then says "I have to go" ... I'll kill the sum****!
