So Miranda has definitely resigned from Cerberus if you choose to blow up the Base? There's no "I'm a double agent" type of deal?

This might have already been said (I'm not reading 957 pages xD) but I would love to see something between her father, Miranda and Oriana again. Or just Miranda and her father..

I would love to see an in depth options for the romance between Shepard and Miranda even if it's sparodically. Maybe a dinner here and there? Maybe have Shepard and Miranda schedule an offworld excursion?

Ignorance is bliss. No squad mate. 20-30 minutes (on and off) total of Miranda in ME3.

I like the idea of a romantic dinner , I hope that bioware doesn't give us only one scene of 30 seconds for his date. This will be a bad joke. <_<

@jtav

This is turning out to be one of my favorite works of fiction out there, and it's because of how you've made everyone so compelling. Your interpretation of Miranda is the kind of Miranda I look for when I read fan fiction, and it's rare to find someone who writes her like this.

Every bit of your work is delightful. And I absolutely love the fact that Matt is an artist. (I wish someone could make a real life version of the painting he plans to create!)

Well judging by the lack of responses I'd say this attempt at starting a Shepard/Miranda fan fic wasn't very well received.

I'm thinking about re-doing it to have the setting be blowing up the collector base.  But part of the reason I wanted to keep it was because I think it would  be more likely that Cerberus would be willing to "write off" the Normandy and not try to take it back (because the collector base would be a much bigger asset) as opposed to if he blew up the collector base, in which case they'd certainly want the Normandy back.

Also, part of the reason I wanted to do a kept-the-base fan fic was because it didn't seem like there were any written where the base was kept. Then I just remembered jtav's excellent one - Shadow War - captured much better than anything I could create. So I think I'm going to switch back to blowing the base and re-write it. It should also allow a lead-in to their first adventure, which the current Chapter 1 doesn't do. Curious to hear thoughts, especially from jtav, of the current piece though.

I haven't gotten around to reading yours, but I honestly think things would be more interesting if you stick with keeping the base; there are plenty of other fanfics out there that has Shepard destroying it.
Will edit this post after I read it!

Edit:
Done reading :)

Since you've only given us the prologue for your story, I can't say much yet. However, I agree with MisterJB's comments - it would've been better if we saw the repercussions of Shepard's decision instead of reading his thoughts. It's nice to read about your Shepard's thoughts, but instead of reading a story about your Shepard, it only felt like reading his journal.
(Unless of course, that was your intention.)

Rdubs:My main issue with your first chapter was that the setting, the hero waking up from a nightmare, is cliched and you fall to the "show, not tell" problem. It would have been more interesting if you had started your fic showying us the aftermath of Shepard's choice instead of reducing it to descriptions in his mind. Show us Shepard's attempt to contact the Council, the ensuing confrontation with TIM over this, the growying animosity between Miranda and Harper. How did Miranda feel about Shepard's decision to go behind Cerberus back? How did the other squadmates feel about being aboard a Cerberus station? Why not have Miranda and Shepard reminisce when aboard Minuteman Station, recalling their first talk?

More to come later...

Thanks Winter. I'm happy to keep the base, but the biggest "fuel" for writing fan fic is people who want to read it! Look forward to your thoughts.

Hi JB,
MANY thank you's for your thoughts.  Just to clarify, that first chapter was mainly just to set the stage and provide the background for the future chapters to come, where the real adventures would be.  Maybe it would make more sense to have finished the second chapter and posted it at the same time.  Not sure if that matters at all though, and I will certainly give your comments a lot of thought.

New chapter of Portrait is up. Reviews welcome.

Well, I have to say jtav that you definitely made me like fanfics :) . Yours are indeed very pleasant to read .
I love your interpretation of Miranda . Somehow it reminds me of some lyrics of a great song " With a word she can get what she came for ... "   . Also this particular interpretation of yours is very well described / expressed, Bravo !
Looking forward to see your next fanfic

Some friendly advice:

The time to get anxious about what you're readers think about a story is after you've written it. I'd tell you to write for yourself entirely, but that would be hypocritical. Write because you have a story that simply must be told. There are stories I do that are popular, and there are stories that are barely a blip on the radar. I have no way to know which is which until after I've posted. Readers are fickle masters that owe you absolutely nothing. The only person you're guaranteed to please is you. Do that first. I've tried focus testing plots in an attempt to get more comments. It didn't work. Portrait, I write for myself. I really had no idea that there would be any interest in a story where Miranda was effectively disabled and Shepard wasn't badass. It's one of my more popular stories, but it wasn't written to be popular.

Writing the second chapter now, which actually has them doing something. Might put the first chapter in better context.

I've still got some Jack stuff to read that the other Jackolytes wrote. I'd like to read your stuff too, especially if its as good as Jtav's has been thus far.

Well, to be fair, the screentime thing is a bit misleading. I mean, if that's what gets you fired up in March, then I'll be right there with you, but probably for other reasons.

Yes, Miranda could have 30 hours or whatever of screentime in ME2, but how much of that was meaningful? Not all that much. Same is true for any character, really.

Meaningful screentime, dialog and overall quality of Miranda's story are the important things. The information that leaked out was understandably infuriating, but Bioware isn't really responsable for that. They are responsable for the finished product. I've taken a step back, digested the whole thing a bit and realized it could still be really good.

I'm not saying it will be, but I am saying that the reasonable thing to do is to reserve judgment until we've seen the completed version. If they don't do the character justice, I guarantee you that I will never shut up about it. But I'm not going to rage for the sake of it either.

I'm not really disappointed with the fact that Miranda isn't going to be on the squad. I'd much rather have all of the really good interaction, character development, romance advancement, etc in one big chunk rather than having hours of "I'm busy right now Shepard, I'll come by when it's quiet okay?"

Well, one of my most wanted scenarios for Miranda wasnt as a squadmate. The setup that I wanted is a internal conflict inside Cerberus. The ones loyals to mankind and Cerberus ideals (most of them scientists) and the other one being under TIM order and/or indoctrinated.

If the base is destroyed, the Cerberus rogue cells will ask Miranda to help/lead them. If the base is intact Miranda will lead them right from the beginning. If Miranda is dead the roge cells never had a chance against the indoctrinated faction.

Dude, spoilers on Cerberus in ME3.

As for Miri and ME2 squadmates as a whole, BW's gonna feel a backlash on that, especially from PS3 users. From what I read about the squads role in ME3 , I'm none too happy. The most I can hope for now is that they explain why they put them where they did. The only one that has a bit of Coherence in Thane's, but that's not saying much.

Well, prior to the leak ever happening, a lot of the regular posters here, myself included, talked about a scenario that we would like as much as Miranda being on the squad, maybe more. Basically that amounted to various versions of: she is off doing her own thing, but interaction with her is not limited, her story intersects with the main story at key moments, the romance is extended throughout, and she has a significant impact on the big picture in the end.

We all knew at the time that would mean less screentime. But we were ok with that as long as the interaction and everything else was there. I'm still ok with that.

I think it is going to work basically along those lines, I just can't tell from the leaked script how good it will be, because it is unfinished. I honestly don't know, so I will wait until I know.
