Well, also, that's part of her story: she was made by a man, for a man; but her goal is to escape that, and to save her sister from it.
So, I've always found that interesting.
I also think it's possible that this extra dimension of the character was intentionally conceived with precisely that reason in mind.
Basically, step one was the sexy Cerberus ice queen. Probably Walters, Hudson and others were responsable for that, that's the "critical path" and original concept.
I think Weekes wrote the non-critical stuff, so the LM I presume, and that's where you start hearing about her father and sister. So, I think it's entirely possible that he looked at what had been done to that point, saw where the emphasis was, and decided to make that the character's backstory in the game.
It's clever, and a bit cerebral... But this is the guy whose self-insert is Mordin, so I don't think it's much of a stretch.
In essence, I think we could say Miranda's backstory is a commentary on the process by which the character was created in the first place.
