In order for a change to occur, something has to be established first. When & where was it established that Kaidan did not like men? Until you provide us the answer, your argument about 'change' is simply false & illogical

But where was it established that he did?

The fact that he wasn't romanceable in ME1 for maleShep is a pretty clear indication.

Considering that this is for the most part speculation, I'm not going to add to this debate. If this is true, then I rather see an official post from a dev on it rather than taking the word of random sites that claim that "this" or "that is going to be in ME3. Otherwise, I'll wait until the game is out to see what has been added/changed.

This has never been the case with any relationship in Mass Effect- no matter the gender. You basically have to push and push and get a character to spit out their feelings.

-well i can;t really agree with this, in Liara's case she's the pushing one, i always thought i'm just being polite, maybe friendly toward her and yet being "polite" triggers the romance no matter what.

That's how it felt with all three characters to me in ME ... I think that they are getting better at handling the romances as they receive feedback. I don't like having to be mean to characters to turn them down and I also don't like having to romance them to really get to know them.

Hopefully ME3 will have improved vastly on these two things.

Hell, if Kaidan does turn out to be bi in ME3, I'm gonna need another male Shep run. Excuse me while I go save Eden Prime again...

DA2 was just stupid with the romances. And it was a fail. Go figure.

Oh the glory of having different opinions <3 calling out on DA was not my point.
My point was that we deserve and m/m option. So far mass effect has been devoid of any and it's not fair.

I won't hate Kaidan if he's S/S. I'll hate god damn Bioware for it. Changing a perfectly good character. Why does it have to be him? Somebody who has been straight for the passed two games! They should have introduced new characters for S/S romances....

You know, if don't hit on him you won't tell the difference (no matter what others do in their games) and you can keep your head cannon as it is, if you want to hit on him and be rejected, though, then yes he won't do that. But I don't imagine an homophobe being compelled to use the flirt option with another guy...

Woah i was just gonna ounce in and jump around declaring how much i looove the multiplayer, but i see theres an arguement going on.....

So ill continue on regardless!

Asari adept + stasis + sniper rifle is sooooooooooo much freaking fun! I thought i'd suck at MP but im doing quite well!

On the side of cc stuff (which was like 10 pages back) i tried importing one of my me2 sheps and she looked ok, but not great. So then i spent a while messing around trying to come up with something new that i liked and i had great success, ive not taken any screenies yet but i have written the code down ready for live! I've now played through the demo so many times that i skip everything i can... except for kaidans bit :D

I also find it interesting too see how everyones reading sheps facial expressions, i saw shep give kai a sly little smile on the way past and i thought the look she gave anderson at the end to be very sincere, serious and trying to give hope.

Now if you'll excuse me i'm sure theres some more atlas' i should be running away from and cerberus troopers to snipe! (feel free to wing me a msg on origin if you wanna join in!)

I will sit with you, if you don't mind.

I'll add for my own part, I'm happy for those who were hoping for it to happen if it does...

I still love Kaidan. lol

And this could also mean being pulled by two people, not two genders. :D It is all vague and interepreted differently by whoever reads it.

Of course it could be interpreted as two people. But also as two genders :police:

Besides, Liara is neither male or female. So, does that count?

From human female FemShep's perspective, Liara's absolutely a female.

In that case Doctor Chakwas and Presley are asexual because they weren't available for neither male or female Shep. Exactly the same logic.

I'm a pro at this :police:

Even in ME1, with Liara heavily hinting at interest in Shepard, its Shepard that pushes. Even vocal characters won't act. They're content to voice their opinions and forever love Shepard from afar/unrequited if he/she doesn't pursue them. In fact, if you stop talking to them forever, they never approach you. You have to physically go to their work stations and explicitly broach the topic.

Much of this sexual orientation discussion is invalid.
It's not like any of the characters are gonna start hitting on you in ME3 unless prompted to. Take ME2 for instance. You'd have to approach every LI with a clear goal to seduce them - take Garrus for instance. Tell him you want to work of stress and he assumes it's about sparring. Jacob actually dumps you if you take too much of an interest.
Besides, in ME 1 only Ash and Liara would try to seduce Shepard. Kaidan would always be the restrained one.

Oh...yeah, I can see how that could be interpretated in that way Image IPB, I personaly hope he is bi, Elijah Shepard wants to confess his love badly! Image IPBImage IPB. Oh...also....Why haven't I heard this line in the game before??? Where does it take place?

People lighten up about the s/s romance. And one or two of you are very small minded about it too, Cant be straight and then bi in ME3. You do know not everyone goes round saying they like guys, some keep it quiet. if Bioware does add the option to romance Kaidan as MaleShep then all it takes is clever writing

" Shepard theres something I need to tell you after all these years together, I like you more than friends"
 see done.

You do know that just because Kaidan may be a partner for MaleShep or FemShep doesnt make either one canon. YOUR story is canon, Thats all that matters. Get over it. Bioware have every right to make their characters the way they want. Hearing some of you say that he just turned gay after being with girls all his life, it wouldnt happen. If s/s relationships opens the game more for people then I'm fine with it. Their not forcing you to make your Shepard gay. Jeez.

Next subject please.

Such as Liara and Shepard was very close in the Shadow Broker DLC (omg epic dlc) I kept thinking oh god no I didnt romance her! Kaidan will hate me! No don't sit on the bed! lol Thank god they was just close friends. I paniced for a moment.

Sure, you guys deserve it. But not Kaidan. Nor any other old squadmate. You guys should get new squadmates for S/S.

I hope and pray that Bioware does keep to their commitment of same sex relationships and that they are engaging for those interested in it and not just pasted on. (For the record, married female, only played femshep/kaidan/thane options. But, I have an interest for what's fair and an empathic nature. I know how much more the game was enriched for me because of the romance side; and I want that for everyone. I think it makes perfect sense to have Kaidan/Ash be the primary same sex options (although I hope there are others) because they are the Virmire survivor. You will only have one or the other in your party. And to some of the posters who are raging, could you at least try a little civility and empathy for others? Please?

I'm not really fussed myself, either. I only play the one FemShep and, either way, a S/S romance for Kaidan won't effect my game.

It's after the Liara/Kaidan/Femshep confrontation (when you choose Kaidan).

I feel like it has no bearing on character, the sexual orientation thing.

If you are femshep, he was always interested in you from the beginning and as there is no maleshep in existence in that "universe" if you will, there's no change in direction for the character.

If it's a male Shepard, all of it could be explained in so many different ways as to why.

I don't believe in a canon here....there's only our own personal flavor (our own personal canon) to be considered. That's all.

Jeez. I left the boards for a while hoping that this topic wouldn't turn into yet another debate. What difference does it really make if the VS is straight, gay, or bi? Bioware created a game in which you create your own path. If you're playing as a fshep who romanced him from the start, he's probably straight in your game. If you're playing as a mshep and romancing him for the first time in ME3, then he's gay in your game--or if you want to get technical, bi (since he seemed to show some peripheral interest in Liara). My point is, ME characters are flexible. They change depending on how you play the game.
If you don't want to worry about members of the same sex coming on to you--guess what, you don't have to pick the blatantly obvious flirty dialogue options that Bioware is known for. Simple as that. Now get the eff over it.
Can't we all just get in on the Kaidan love? I'm really excited that he's probably an LI for mshep. The ME team finally grew some balls and went there. It has been a long time coming, but I'm glad they finally caught up.

At the end of Liara-Kaidan-FemShep triangle scene. I don't remember what do you have to do exactly, but I think you need to declare they're both "special" to her and then pick Kaidan.
