Sacrifice? I don't know. I'd have to see how it plays out before I can decide. I lost a love interest in Bioware's other game because my character put a war ahead of a romance interest's feelings and that sucked so much. That loss was more of a break-up rather than offing that person. I wouldn't have let him get killed. Would my Shepard lose her relationship with Kaidan as collaterial damage in order to save a race/gain loyalty of a race? Prooooobably since she has the fortitude to do so, BUT -- and this is a BIG but -- I bought Mass Effect to get away from the scenario I encountered in the other game. I even looked up spoilers ahead of time to make sure there were no tragic endings with Kaidan in ME1. I don't know that I want to go through it again. I want my games to be like the Notebook, not the Titanic, dammit. =p I may override my Shepard in this situation. It will really depend on the roleplay and/or a few hours of angry googling to see if I can just merely go back to an earlier save and reload to rewrite history. =ptxmn1016 wrote...
So, heads up, this is a super depressing topic, but it came up in another character thread and it got me wondering. If you had to sacrifice Kaidan in order to save a race or gain the loyalty of a race, would you do it? Would you have any moral/emotional qualms about it? I honestly don't know if I'd be able to.

I really freaking hope so. But part of me knows that this game is going to rip my heart out in a hundred different ways because of choices I made in the first 2 games.
Oh, I don't doubt that for a second. It wouldn't be a Bioware game if at least one decision didn't lead to disaster and heartache no matter what you do. But that galactic readiness stuff needs to play into the mechanic somehow, so *shrug* I'm thinking it'll be related directly to the success of story missions. But they just better keep their paws off Kaidan (and Ashley, for that matter)...

Interesting and super depressing questions.
For Renegade Devonna, she would sacrifice the race in a heartbeat, especially if her and Kaidan got back on track. If it's a race that, in her opinion, can't get its act together, well they're victims of natural selection. Her thinking would be that the universe has taken so much away from her, and she has gone above and beyond in spite of it. Sacrificing Kaidan is the uncrossable line.
For Paragon Vyan, she might, but would then make a suicidal run for the Reapers. Kaidan represents the one constant in her life to that point (colonist/sole survivor). She lost him once and couldn't bear to lose him again. She wants to make the universe a better place, even if it means she loses everything (including her own life). She also has a bad case of survivor's guilt, just realized this. On the other hand, if she chooses Kaidan over something and then learns it costs them a race, it would play well into her messed-up mentality.
Others, not sure.
Of course, were this option to come up in-game, I will metagame the SHAT out of it so it does not happen. Read spoilers, strats, anything to see a way around it. Then, I would do it on a one-off play through, just to see how it plays out.

I don't think I'm willing to sacrifice Kaidan. I would rather play Multiplayer than lose him.

I'm not sacrificing any of my squaddies for anyone. Different story if I have to pick between Kaidan and one of them though.
Edit: Which btw will make me REALLY mad if they used that scenario again. <_<

From what I gather there appears go be a lot of 'either-or' choices. I can't imagine this would be one of them, however. What would require the sacrifice of Kaidan/Ashley.

Choosing between Ash and Kaidan was REALLY hard for me. Instead of "oh, s/he is annoying, so I'll go for the other", I had to think it out because I like both of them. Intially, I chose Kaidan because he was really helpful during combat but later on, I did because I romanced him. I still feel guilty about choosing though.Kaidan Fan wrote...

Yeah, I know two of the "either-or" choices (though one has a third option). While I can see Bioware not going that far, there was that interview with Jennifer Hale where she got real emotional with a part with "A/K". While we don't know the exact details about, just seeing "A/K" definitely looks like "Ashley/Kaidan".ZehnWaters wrote...

I went through the same thing when this came up. I also have a confession to make. If it were a real-life choice, I'd choose Ashley. She's got a family back home that needs her and Kaidan didn't.

I had a hard time too, because I liked them both as well. That's why I'm gonna be really p*ssed if they shove that choice onto the VS yet again because I like all the squaddies I've had in both games (except for Grunt). But seriously, doing it to the VS again would just be mean.

Kaidan had the bomb in my game. In the moment, I would be worried that there was a chance that if he didn't get reinforcements, that bomb wasn't going to go off. It wouldn't be about saving Ash or Kaidan. It would be about making sure that bomb wasn't defused and that the mission was a success. I felt guilty about leaving Ash behind because I liked her. The fact that I was romancing Kaidan made me feel more guilty after making that choice. But ultimately it was still because I needed that bomb to go off.

Kaidan's dad was in the Alliance, so I highly doubt it. We never know, Kaidan could have a family that he never talked about and just brought up his dad because he was also in the Alliance.
And that rubber N7 dress is freaking HIDEOUS. Why BioWare? Seriously?

Had him with the bomb as well. At the time, I was thinking "If I save Ash, maybe Kaidan can hold them off long enough where they won't have enough time to diffuse the bomb. But what if I'm wrong?"dpMeggers wrote...
