Is LotSB that long after? I played it before the SM for one playthough and after for the other. I assumed they were concurrent (seeing as it ties in with Liara's side mission and all that jazz.

On topic: Not long to go now! My Shep wants some Kaidan time!

Madlily is right. Just checked the Mass Effect Timeline and by the time ME3 starts its been over 3 years.

2183 CE: The events of Mass Effect 2 begin. One month after the Battle of the Citadel, the SSV Normandy is attacked and destroyed by an unidentified assailant, resulting in the death of Commander Shepard. Later, the Systems Alliance officially declares Shepard "killed in action".

2184 CE: Shepard is dead during this time

2185 CE: The events of Mass Effect 2 continue. Commander Shepard is revived and tasked by the Illusive Man to investigate the mysterious disappearances of entire human colonies in the Terminus Systems.

2186 CE: The events of Mass Effect 3 occur. The Reapers invade the galaxy and attack Earth.

So Shepard and Kaidan have been apart for over 3 years by the time ME3 starts.

ooh, about the "scrifice or not" part. I already had to make this choice once in SWTOR, with my Trooper, it wasn't a LI, but it was my absolute favorite NPC in the game. It was either her or a LOT of other people. (They were in different parts of the ship, I had to vent one to save the other etc). I was by far the absolute worst choice I had to make in a game this far. I really had to think about it, agonize and want to cry out of frustration because of it. I hated Bioware/Lucas arts for a while there, but at the same time they finally gave me a hard choice that mattered! not choices that all kinda led to the same thing no matter what I really picked. I don't want this to happen in ME3, I don't think I would want to keep playing if it did

Huh? So this means that by that timeline that you actually spend more time "together" with a ME2 romance before being cut off from your crew - an entire year - than with your ME1 romance?

I kind of like the idea of my Shepard and Kaidan being together again (as lovers) even after 3 years apart, it shows how much they love each other.<3

I can't keep up with this thread anymore, so many posts showing up 
But I'm wondering, if there's so much time between events in Collectors' base and beginning of ME3, then how were relations between Shepard and Illusive Man in case of destroying whole base along with data and technology? He was so mad when at the end of ME2.

I think he probably just cut ties with Shepard after that. It was pretty much a big "up yours" to Cerberus and TIM in general, especially that last conversation. And I enjoyed every second of it.
