Kaidan from ME1 to the rest of the series is not the same person. I think FemShep got a middle finger on Mars, as well. At least the Garrus and Thane romances are honest.
I am really unhappy, but did not expect them to treat Kaidan the way he was originally written. My poor main Shepard will be single and alone in this game.
Why? Because he (rightfully) doubted her? Didn't fall right into "lets get back together"? It makes sense that he'd have to question, they had no contact the 2 years she was dead, and Horizon knocked Shep off the pedestal he had her on.
I mean if someone I loved is dead for 2 years, returns and for all outward appearances and intel is working with Public Enemy #1 Terrorist Club, and has who knows what implanted into them, I sure wouldn't be without trust issues and doubts when we get thrown back together in a life or death, trust or die, situation so why should Kaidan?
I thought they pulled it off well. He got to air his doubts and mistrust, and FINALLY Shep gets to SAY something, then they move forward. Kinda like real life.
"Rightfully doubted her", more like jumped to a conclusion. Kaidan's reaction on Horizon would make more sense with a renegade Shepard, especially if he was 'renegadized' (not that anything ever came of that, anyway). In that case, having Shepard knocked off the pedestal would fit. A pro-human Shepard who happens to join Cerberus would certainly be too much for Kaidan to handle. However, the relationship that ME1 establishes, (or at least
seems to establish) between Kaidan and FemShep one would think Kaidan would want answers rather than sputtering suspicously the way he did at their reunion. Especially a Colonist/Sole Survivor Shepard, you would think Kaidan would at least acknowledge that Shepard had some big picture reason for teaming up with Cerberus. Unfortunately two things happen instead: First, Shepard and Kaidan were not provided with an adequate amount of dialogue in that disastrous scene. Secondly, his character is misunderstood by the writers who took over for Kristjanson. Yes, yes, I sound like an entitled fan, and should probably allow Bioware to write their characters however they want. But I can't get over the the character assassination. As a result, I am not interested in romancing my Shepard to Carth 2.0
Originally, Kaidan is an awesome character, and I will always love the ME1 version. Me2 and 3 Kaidan can return to KotOR:bandit:
Edit:
Lady Jess, I don't mean to sound rude or unpleasant. This is just my very jaded perspective on Kaidan's characterization. I am very glad that some of you are still able to enjoy his character and romance.
