I talked to him when he was unconscious, then the second time I bought him the wine. Then the third time he became a spectre and no lines were given or anything and now he's gone.
Did I screw up? Do I need to start over or will there be another opportunity to start one later?

No, you didn't screw up at all. Just wait a few priority missions.

I really want to play ME3 and complete the romance with Kaidan, but knowing how the game ends...I can't do it. I just can't

Just play it. It was worth the heartache for all those great moments.

THIS! I tried to play again today and just couldn't. I kept seeing people and I was like "this guy dies, that guy dies, that location gets destroyed, what's the point?" And knowing I won't get the ending I worked so hard to achieve is just heartbreaking. Seriously, I'm all for an emotional rollercoaster, but it's never a good ride if you feel like puking at the end.

Kaidan won't join your squad until you do a good chunk of priority missions and then you get a call from the salarian councilor. Do the mission he sends you and Kaidan can join your squad again.

As cheesy as it might have been, if they gave us an ending like this I would have jumped up and do a happy dance
@txmn: Nah, I'll probably finish the ME2 game I'm doing now, but I don't think I'll touch ME3.
Haha! Kill'em with LOVE! That WOULD have been awesome.

Like Crimson, I'm not betting on a better ending coming from anywhere by Bioware, so I'll end it where I want it to end then fill in the blanks myself.

I have to agree. Even though the ending wasn't to my liking, the rest of the game was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I feel the obligation to praise something in ME3 now
Kaidan's animation here makes me spaz.
Good animations make me spaz.
I love the animation in that scene, no wonky eyes and the gestures are perfect. The kissing sounds aren't weird either and the voice acting is suberb. You can tell they put a lot into that scene and that makes me happy. Wish they would've put that much effort into the ending

So, I haven't finished the game, but I'm guessing that Jimmy Vega isn't a romance option for anyone? Slightly disappointed by that.
Sadly, no.
I am sure one of 10-12 Lolas/Sheps would've romanced him! Such a tease...
Vega was more adorable than I would have thought. (would have romanced if possible)
I would have liked to see maybe some squad chatter between LI Kaidan and Vega about the flirting though.
I would have totally romanced him too! He's actually the only one other than Kaidan I thought I'd try. I was telling my bf eariler "I think I'll start a whole new Shep for Vega. He's awesome." Boo.

I hope they do something.
I mean, I just... okay, I'd be fine with the endings for SOME of my Shepards. Like one of my Shepards I was positive was going to sacrifice herself in the end, blah blah blah. But my main Shepard would try to find a way to live and get back with her crew.
Honestly I just wish they didn't blow up the mass relays on the destroy ending. Then I could have had a little ounce of faith that Kaidan and Shepard would reunite. (Haha, I guess the main beef I have with the ending is that Shep has no way of getting back to her crew.)

Makes me a bit more confused, too.
unless it isn't the same planet.
gah
bioware
y u do this
And a nice "Thank you for playing our game and supporting us! Shoot for the stars! blah blah" at the end would of been more welcome than a "BUUY R DLCS GIVE US MORE UR MONIES"

What cracks me up is they know how to make people sad, real sadness. Mordin's death was amazing. It's so good that even though you know it's coming, you are still bawling when it happens. Also, you're ok with him dying because Shepard's ok with it and he's okay with it.
Spoilers!
Compare this with the Kaidan/Shepard goodbye on earth (which I can't find a video of right now).
Mordin knows he's going to die and he's ok with it. He helped with the genophage and now he's ending it. Not to mention as a salarian it has a lot more meaning to the Krogan people. Shepard let's him go and they honor him.
Now the goodbye between Kaidan and Shepard, neither of them are ok with it. As viewers or players we depend on the feelings of the characters we're watching. Neither Shepard or Kaidan are ok with this and you feel like if either lost the other, they would not be able to live anymore. So it's not going to be alright so we're not sad, we're just angry. We can't mourn them because it's not fair and unlike with life, entertainment should make sense unless it is based on nonfiction. So when you have the choice, you don't want to put the characters through all that pain so you go without the romance or the final chapter.
If this makes any sense, we blame ourselves for not giving them a happy ending and if the only way for the characters we love to be happy is by not playing the game, then we won't do it.

That is so true. :/ Kaidan's line about "I can't lose you again" and how Shepard says that she'll wait for him at the end and that he better be there.... My heart ached at that. I went into the ending thinking that I would do WHATEVER it took to get them together in the end.
Aaaaaaannnd there was no option to do so. None whatsoever.

Why do you think so many deaths in entertainment are one person telling the other that it will be alright? That's for the audience so they know the characters they love won't fall apart. It gives people the strength to finish the book/movie/game whatever. If you don't do it right the audience will control it the only way they can, by turning it off.

I saw Mordin's death, the endings, Thane's death, the kid in the beginning and nothing. It was sad, but didn't make me cry 0.o
