Do you still live with the urm 5k if you pick synthsis? I got it with destroy...

****SPOILERS****

Nope, only live with destroy. The other two options don't have Shep living, and it's possible to see Shep live if you have 4k and you "save" Anderson. That's what I'm shooting for, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off. Otherwise, I only have 4,700EMA at the moment and might have to play a few more MP matches and replay the final sequence in order to see this Shep live. Since she's a Sole Survivor, I think that's appropriate.

There's some intersting reasoning for why that is in the Hallucination Theory threads.

the whole rest of the game is awesome...which is like 25 hours, and the bad part is like the last 10 mins. So it works out!

Im playing new games, I just wont go past the final goodbyes. Plus, I hate that punk a** kid. But its not his fault. I just hate slow mo squences. But then again I hate kids...soo...Oh..Am I rambling? sorry..

You've gone through hell and back! It's surprising your shep makes it that far. It's about sacrafice for the greater good, not "closure". "Oh kaidan and Shep are married and have bebes after the reapers attack ^_^" or "they lived happily and rebuilt!" I dunno that doesn't fit. It doesn't fit the tone to me.

I'm sorry but does how he sounds in this video really make it seem like he's gonna be ok?

And our major problem isn't the lack of the perfect happy ending. It's how these endings were handled and how OOC it makes the squad feel.

1) When Shepard is shot by the beam, it's assumed the squadmates with you are dead, except they are not cause they come out of the Normandy at the end. So that implies they ran away and left Shepard there. Which leads to...
2) The Normandy then running from Earth. The battle is at Earth, everyone is there, so what is Joker doing out next to the relay at the edge of the solar system? It implies that your squad is fleeing the battle like cowards. They are not cowards and they wouldn't leave Shepard there. They'd get to the conduit and finish the job Shepard was unable to.
3) The Normandy crashes on a jungle planet we have no idea where. So I guess the Normandy crew just starts breeding with each other and forms a new colony? Really? The Normandy couldn't crash on Earth? Why is it on this weird planet? It makes no sense.

Then the epilogue is just congratulations, you're a legend! Wat? What happened to everyone? What happened to all the alien fleets? Are they stuck there now? Even if Shepard lives she has to be forever separated from all her loved ones. I'd rather be dead. I have a ton of questions, I don't understand anything.

I would've accepted Shepard and the Normandy sacrificing themselves to kill Harbinger, therefore rallying the rest of the troops to victory. It's sad but it makes sense. This makes no sense.

Exactly, quite frankly, after the last chat before hitting London's streets, I had the impression that Kaidan at least was going to sacrifice himself if Shep was going down because he didn't want to walk out without her. Those were two people preparing to die and sell themselves as dearly as possible in the process. Honestly, the Garrus good-bye felt sort of the same way.

And I took the two of them with me. They weren't coming out either.

Which part are you at? Cause you HAVE to get to the romance scene. It is like my favorite part of the game.

Newbie with a quick question, when is the final romance scene with Kaidan? I had the date (loved it) and now I am near the end of the game and it hasn't happened yet. I hope I haven't missed it!  :?

You echo EXACTLY how I feel.

Although I read in the CE guide that Shepard can survive. but I don't understand how I didn't get that part of the ending when I had an EMS score of 5,000+. >_>;

DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVENT BEAT THE GAME... AND IF YOU HAVENT WHY ARE YOU HERE?...

Ahem..

S/he can. The endings are not left or right for paragon or renegade. Its what you "choose" and believe whats best for the galaxy. You said early you choose the left option, which is to control. If you want to see shepard "living" you have to choose the right option, destroy, thats the only one and have an EMS of 4k+

I. Feel. SO. STUPID. REALLY?!?

My reasoning was: ... the left option was blue! I thought it was "paragon" meaning "destroy the reapers."

I was crying too much to pay attention to that little *SPOILER SPOILER* god/kid thing.

Thank you so much for clarifying. I'm gonna go replay the last mission and pick the ending I was supposed to pick...

It doesn't make me any happier though. blaaahhhh.

Also, anyone figured out what this NG+ ending is? An additional depressing scene at the end perhaps?

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the ending.

*SPOILER*
*snip*

Logic/plot holes/space magic aside - Is it really so bad to want a happy ending? I mean, really, what's wrong with providing it as an option? You don't think it fits, that's great. But part of the beauty of this game is that we can create our own Sheparads and play the way we want. So maybe the endings as they are fit for you, but they don't fit for me and my Shepard and my story. So if you want, you can always pick the gloom and doom. But not all of us want that, and we don't like it being forced on us since this game is supposed to be all about choice and the consequences of those choices. I see my Shep as a full paragon who always beats the odds - the classic hero. And that's how I played all three games until I was forced to accept an ending didn't logically fit. It should have been provided as an option.

So yes, I want a happy ending. What's wrong with that? Why can't this be an option alongside the exsisting endings?

She shows up soon, she never actually gives you the mission. Don't worry.

@Kaidan Fan if you cried during the romance scene... might not want to talk to Kaidan on Earth before the last battle or at least bring a lot of tissues :[

You expect to have a happy ending in a universe full of death and grim experiences? I mean that's admirable but very improbable. Even so, choices or not, the difference between ME, well any bioware game, and something like minecraft, is that while you do have choices and it does affect you, you're still following a set story. And that story has been building up for some grand highly violent ending. Even if it wasn't your death, millions, trillions of living creatures die. So you want a happy ending while everyone in that universe has to suffer loss? Well woo! Of course you want that! But it's not something that seems likely to happen. At least your character left an impact on that world. And really, isn't that what life is about? Leaving your mark? Be it positive or negative? Shepard helps save the Galaxy. THE GALAXY. Yeah I can understand after all that work you want a happy ending with like Kaidan or whoever you romanced, but to me, it wouldn't fit in the least with the narrative.

It's not about a happy ending.  It's about a well written, logical ending.  My favorite authors would be classified as GRIMDARK, but I do not enjoy cheap, poorly written angst and emotional manipulation for the sake of it.

Basically, the only way Bioware could have tried harder to make players FEEL something, without *earning* it through good writing, would have been to insert a Sarah McLachlan song and pictures of kittens with conjuctivitis into the ending of Mass Effect 3.

Seeing how big of an issue it si (honestly thought it would be smaller), I actually wouldn't by surprised anymore if they released "Endings DLC". I don't mean totally new/different endings by that, but maybe a fix to the Normandy plothole issue incorporated into the DLC someway, pretending it's a result of the DLC story while in fact it's an answer to complaints about lack of logic with what was happening with the Normabdy and the squad (especially 2 squadmates chosen for fibnal mission) during the final moments of the game.

And Fallout already set the precedence.

From what I've read and understood, the NG+ ending is just a rumor, and people are confusing it with the whole Prejak Paddlefish intel bonus for keeping that fish alive in the first ME3 playthrough and a NG+ playthrough.  I don't think it actually triggers an extra scene.  But I'm holding out hope for this secret ending. :/

Oh, and I wouldn't pay for an endings DLC if all they do is add some kind of epilogue at the end.  For something like that, they might as well just add it in to the next patch, because a DLC implies additional gameplay.

If you imported your me2 saves ng+ is already unlocked. It's what happens after the credits roll.
