Now that I've finished the game, I am definitely buying into the whole hallucination/indoctrination theory. Why is Shepard suddenly wearing different armor? And why does Coats say that no one made it to the beam? I'm thinking Bioware has something up their sleeve... at least I hope so!

So, if s/he never made it to the beam, how are the reapers stopped?  I don't quite get the indoctrination theory.

I don't think they were stopped. Once you get to the beam, the rest of the game seemed kind of fake to me. Like it wasn't really happening. I think Shepard is imagining it.

Lol. So...is this supposed to be the preferable option?

I definitely like this theory better than the awful endings we got!

The problem I have with the indoctrination theory is that it means that there are only two endings, Shepard dies, Shepard lives. Thus Bioware is completely lying about the amount of endings.

Secondly, it provides no closure and is confusing as hell. It means Bioware shipped a game without an end and will release it later for 10 dollars. I mean can you really support a company who would do something like that? Even if their games are outstanding?

I am really not a Bioware fan anymore. I feel like the only way for them to make this right at all is to release a new ending. Who knows, maybe that's what they had planned the whole time! All I wanted was for Marlena and Kaidan to be together and I got stuck with this :(

It also would mean that the reapers were not defeated and the galaxy is totally f*cked.

Is it bad that I'm slowly starting to accept the current crappy endings we have?

... actually, I think I'm just still in complete denial. I'm just tired of being emotionally drained about it.

So everyone is saying that your squad mates

***SPOILERS**
Die when the beam hits, so i finished it recently and before i started walking i looked all around me.. they are nowhere to be seen, so im assuming they stayed behind. And if they did get hit by the beam its possible Joker picked them up, after all it took you a bit inside the Citadel, so i think there are no holes there! Now as for leaving me with my Shepard taking a breath and KAIDANS SMILING?!? wtf? HE should have the same face he had in ME1 when he thinks she died in my opinion! Thats the part that gets me, the relays are down and i am god knows where bleeding to death and alone!?!? I guess we will see what happens, they just better fix this! Maybe its all a trick! Maybe its all a plot to get us to spend more on the DLC?

What gets me is this.  Someone posted that the two people they took with them died in he Harby blast.  Like eyes wide open, just dead. They are later seen getting off the Normandy. Wtf?

During this part, my squadmates were nowhere to be found! And then I saw them getting off the Normandy with Joker. So I guess Kaidan and Javik decided to just turn around and head back to the shuttle!

Blah blah blah entitlement yada yada they just don't understand our vision etc etc etc we're totally right.

I'll be interested to see the rationalizations of this ending; hopefully it'll be more than "nyah nyah, we're right and you're wrong." I'm a George RR Martin fan and a registered nurse - I don't expect rainbows, damn it. But give me an ending that I don't feel like I need to suck on paint chips prior to playing to appreciate.

Actually no, I take that back. Let people have their happy endings. You set a precedent, not only with the first two Mass Effect games (a precedent of hope), but with a little known game called Dragon Age: Origins. If people wanted their emo Linkin Park endings to prove how cultured and mature they are, they could have them. If people wanted to be the hero, or the villain, they could. If they wanted to marry the goddamn king, save the country, score a wicked killing blow on the dragon, and name their dog Dino, they could do it! Why not here? Hell, you started it!

Boom!  High-five girlfriend!

I loved her in the scene where she wants to make a recording of you.  Best scene in the game.  It just liked how everyone was really emotional without it having to be a romantic context.

How many actual conversations are there with Kaidan? I've noticed a few glitched ones DAII style where the audio bugs out and also the first time you go to speak to him after getting him back didn't even play for me at all. I didn't notice until later when I had to reload an old save...

In cut scene dialog there's the stuff said in the hospital when he's (shirtless) in the bed which is adorable, the exchange when he tells you he's been asked to be a specter where he's out of bed and dressed and still not released... then after the shootout from the cerberus coup when he asked to join your crew... then the dinner date... and then after that there's no real cut scene dialog on the normandy or anywhere else until the love scene before the Illusive man confrontation, and then the last words on Earth.

If you talk to him on the normandy it doesn't go into a cut scene but he does have some cute lines when you click on him including:

~ Talking about ardat yakshi and being glad he never met one: "I'd be a goner--- No seriously!"
~ Losing to Vega in Poker
~ *suggestive* "Hey...." Shep: "Hey, you." K: "You left this morning without waking me." S:"Didn't have the heart." K: *suggestive* "Next time...... wake me."

SQUEE!!

There was a "cut-scene" when he first gets back on the normandy and also one after Jacobs mission where he says there are good people in Cerberus...well duh. I guess I missed nothing. Ah things were better in ME1.

At least GRR Martin set precedents in the later books by killing off a main character in the first book! I will defintely be interested as well to hear the writers' "vision" of how they thought these endings were at all satisfying and not depression-inducing to the majority of the fan base.

My vanguard/paragon was devoted to Kaidan through all the trilogy, so I was really happy that their romance was treated right in ME3. That date on the Citadel has to be one of my favorite scenes!

... until I witnessed that ending. So, here's my take on what would have given me some closure.

Spoilers ahead!

Shepard didn't hesitate to jump into that beam of light to do the synergy because that meant she could save everyone without having to wipe out the synthetics (after all the interactions with EDI and Legion that was absolutely out of question) or controlling the reapers (after all they did? seriously). She knew she would have to sacrifice herself. Her essence is being absorbed by the light and she's having the flashbacks, seeing Kaidan's face last. The green light goes to merge organic and synthetic and to destroy the relays, the Normandy is trying to escape the blast and crashes in some unknow world...

And here is how things start to get different!

Joker and EDI are out there looking at the view, Kaidan gets out of the Normandy, thinking about
Shepard. The rest of the crew is also there, and after being relieved that they somehow got out alive, the mood is dark again as they remember Shepard and her sacrifice, they know what happened because of the synergy.
Kaidan feels something trying to reach him... not
something, someone. He can't believe at first, but after a moment's hesitation he goes to forest, looking around desperately, until he finds Shepard lying unconscious on the grass.
Turns out her feelings for Kaidan were so strong that her essence followed the Normandy until it
crashed and reconstructed her to be with him again.

A little fairy-tale-ish, not really well written and with lots of things to be explained, but they're back together and that is all I need.
(also, first time posting)

edit: I have no idea what just happened with my post.

THIS. SO MUCH. This was my first indication of "Wait, something's not right here." None of the squad's reactions are pheasable. Joker flying away BEFORE Shep destroyed the relays? And somehow with Kaidan and (Liara, in my case) on board?
I checked every body lying around the area, neither Kaidan or Liara were to be seen (and I definitely would have noticed an Asari lying around). I looked back, and they were right behind me during the running scene yet IN FRONT of Anderson. Explain that?

Neither of those two would leave Shepard's body there if they somehow woke up and were picked up by Joker. I'm almost certain that the entire ending sequence was a dream, and that Shepard blacked out during the blast and had a mind control episode.

Bioware knows how to do characters. They wouldn't just have everyone smiling at the end while Shepard was MIA.

I'm starting to think that the endings were a fever dream. Shepard was knocked out cold from the blast of the reaper beam, fill in endings here, and then when the scene wit Shepard breathing in comes up, thats where Shepard is coming to. Or i'm just trying to grasp at something so that these so-called "endings" make sense.

Though I'm not entirely sure how that makes any sense out of the last scene where its winter and a old man is telling the story to a child.

I hope your right! It could of been one of those situations where she experiances something and comes to realizing what she has to do. The only thing the irks me is they said this was the end of shepards story... So why would they leave it open ended like that!?! B

The "Renegade" ending makes for a good sequel hook, if they hadn't said it was Shepard's last game then I'd be inclined to think they were leaving a cliffhanger for the next. As it is, I'm assuming (meaning: hoping) that they'll come out with DLC for the real ending.

What the theory I read goes like this, of course it varies from person to person obviously. Long Explanation....

Shepard is running toward the beam and gets hit with a bright light. Which then the theory says Shep is actually knocked uncouncious on the ground. That is why after that bright light hits things get really crazy. Shep actually isn't in the beam Shep has to still walk towards the beam. So did the laser hit her/him or not? I'm in different armor(guys say they are in t-shirt and jeans)I don't play as a guy so I wouldn't know, unlimited ammo with just a gun, where did my team mates go, none of the dead guys are Kaidan or Garrus, did they say screw this and turned around and ran back towards the Normandy leaving Shep alone? No I doubt that! Everything is in slow mo, how did Anderson who was behind you get in front of you, what the hell is up with the hallway of bald dead men, women and keepers, during TIM and Anderson confrontation you have all these black wisps where TIM is showing you how he and the repears can control you and Anderson(introducing trying to indoctrinate Shep but giving the false belief of power but still failing). How can TIM control you or Anderson??? Your like having a power struggle with TIM over being controlled by him and The Repears. TIM does that funky move(bright pretty lights come out of his hands) and makes you shoot Anderson....because he suddenly has the power??? Strange umm k. Anderson by the way is in great condition where your all bloody and torn to hell. Then from there it gets more trippy. Your bleeding everywhere you fall and that kid from your nightmares tells you to wake up and beams you up to the magical area where suddenly your not so bloody anymore. Then you have your 3 choices. Pick door number 1, 2, or 3. Ghost child clearly doesn't like 3.

Ok here is where the indoctrination theory comes in. I don't think Shep is actually Indoctrinated but while he is unconscious and then regains consciousness (s)he is weak and the Repears are trying to get Shep to give in to them by making Shep think (s)he can control the Repears, which (s)he dies while trying to do that (Morinith anyone?), or also by doing Synthesis which is pretty much what the Repears have been wanting to do by harvesting humans, but option number 3...destroy the Repears the kid really tries to push you towards the other 2 options. So I don't really think Shep is indoctrinated but I think the Repears have been trying really hard to indoctrinate Shep. That is why they want his/her body so bad in ME2. When Shep picks destroy (s)he suddenly wakes up on the ground if score is high enough. OR Shep could have been knocked uncounscious that whole damn time and is having one hell of a horrible, trippy nightmare. Now the alive ending why is Shep surrounded on the ground with concrete and is magically back in his/her armor? Why did (s)he have a vision of whoever got off The Normandy in a jungle like planet. They are all happy and smiles when possibly they don't know where the hell Shep is or if (s)he is dead? Unfortunately if (s)he was unconscious (s)he is gonna wake up to find Earth in a pile of rubble, someone else got there before him/her, or damn it (s)he still has to do it. OR the writting sucks! That is just the theory though. This is why the ending sucks because there is way too much room to speculate:pinched:

Yeah I'm thinking the indoctrination/hallucination thing is what it is. They could have been more clear and there wouldn't have been such of an outrage by the fans I think.

We were talking on MP about all the Kaidan Scenes. And how if you take him on the samara mission you go "What's that noise?!" and he's all "Sorry I tripped >.>" Cracked me up. Sbarge did and AMAZING job with the voice acting in this one. I've heard the ashely one isn't as good.

I thought the Kaidan romance was pretty perfect. It didn't even occur to me that there weren't that many real conversations after he joins the squad. I think I was easily placated by the "you should wake me next time" and the little mission quips. My favourite is when you board the geth ship above Rannoch and Kaidan asks "are you okay, Shepard?" and Shep says "I am now"

^^^ Also, the tripping part made me lol too

I also think Kaidan says a cute line like, "Is it wrong I'm grinning like a fool?" Which kinda backs up the oh la la we had sex remarks. Wake me up next time. Kaidan love scenes were just perfect. Amazing and Raphael did an amazing job. Casey I wanted to talk to you on Xbox:crying: I always miss people it seems.
