She totally did. When I got to the ending, the thought of getting to see Kaidan again and make more strategic saves was all that made replaying worthwhile. I hope we can thank her for it.

Edit: Hey David Silverman asked on twitter about the favorite LI's from ME3 and apparently Kaidan's getting a lot of love! Glad he's finally getting the interest he deserves.

I really like the indoctrination theory, everything just makes more sense that way.

One thing that I noticed which is really weird is that Shepard seems to spend the most time around Reaper technology out of anyone who isn't indoctrinated. It's like she has some sort of special anti-indoctrination power. Why is that? Really strong will that allows her to resist Morinth? Or just plot contrivance?

Of course, indoctrination is weird. That Amanda woman from Arrival seemed to get indoctrinated in the time between showing you how to stop the Reapers and you suggesting using it to stop the Reapers. It was like three seconds. She can't have been indoctrinated before or she wouldn't have told you the damn plan.

I think some vital points about indoctrination are missed here. The games themselves state that there are moments of lucidity here and there. And when the person is not in control of their mind, the reaper's power still makes them think they're in control.

Her telling Shepard about the plan is all "sure sure, yeah I'm on your side, look at what good buds we are!" She may even believe it during the act of betrayal. Indoctrination may even let her think she's going to eventually get off her lazy ass and put the plan into motion. But what if-- no, let's do more testing, its too risky, why not wait and see what happens---  what am I even doing-- and so on until her whole psyche is entrenched.

The reason Kensen tells Shepard of their plan is because she miscalculated. Regardless of whether or not Shepard knows, the plan isn't going to go in effect, because Shepard is going to be incapacitated. You can tell by the way the operator answers Kensen's call from the shuttle that the plan was abandoned and Shepard's presence there would be a problem-- thus forcing them to use a counter-measure. She couldn't have known that Shep would wake up early and reinstate an abandoned plan.

I looooove the Kaidan friendship dinner talk. Not that I think any of my Sheps will actually have that with him unless I make one who goes for Liara, but I absolutely adore the dialogue. And how Shepard is like, "Really?" all sarcastically and it takes Kaidan a while to get it. So cute

I really need to make a M!Shep to go through ME3 with and romance Kaidan. aghjdkfds. When I have more free time. I think I'm completely over the bad endings (even though I still want better ones and fully support the cause, it's not going to detract from me replaying the game).

I'm listening to the Kaidan ME3 voice files back when the sound files leaked before game release.  Just thought I'd share some thoughts.

Some of my favorite lines:

"too late, our drinks are here, and I'm gonna take my time…" -- femshep romance scene with Kaidan in ME3?

"damn this was way less awkward in my mind." -- the "friendly" date with Kaidan, and now one of my favorite lines from him.

"So, uh, when does that steak get here? Uh, incidentally, you better be buying now." -- when does this happen? During the date I suppose?

"Uh… right. Hmm. Well, not the answer I was hoping for." - he sounded so hurt. I take it this is when he gets rejected on the date scene.

Also, I wasn't aware that when Kaidan survives the coup, he can actually decline joining the Normandy if there isn't enough trust between you two?  He can say that he "respectfully declines, ma'am/sir."

"Commander I'm flattered, but I don't think… well, let's just say that it'd take a lot to rebuild the trust that we'd need."

more lines:
"I came here because… um…. because I was sitting by myself anticipating… whatever. didn't make sense." -- it's together with the romance scene files but I dunno how this can be activated in-game.

"And then there were the times I just couldn't believe you were with Liara instead of me." -- Do you get this when you romance Liara in ME1, but "change" to Kaidan in ME3? Can both ManShep and FemShep get this?

Yes to the first, no to the second, at least not from any of the "paragon" options.  If no one knows I can experiment with it later.

I love listening to him too.  I didn't start out that way but his voice has really grown on me.

I believe you have to buy him the TM88 Peruvian whiskey, build up his trust, and then I think that the romance version of the date triggers for ManShep only if you talk to Kaidan before you commit to another romantic interest.

I've only played the game with a totally unromanced Shepard, and Kaidan was always the first one I talked to, so I always got the romantic version. I'm not too sure about how this works if you romanced him previously in ME1.

... looking at the "friendship" version now, I won't feel too bad if I decide to go for other people in my next couple playthroughs. It's going to be hard to resist Kaidan, though. :-/

I think I recall reading that the second is when you let him down nicely during the date scene. Not certain on that, though, and I'm definitely not going to test that!

 Part where Alenko and Shep just beginning to know each other on Normandy
SR-1 (from fanfiction), Shepard just  was appointed for new XO:

"Alenko woke to the warning chime of the sleeper-pod in his ear, and tried not to feel disappointed that the new XO hadn't woken him up for a midnight snack. What is wrong with me, wishing nightmares on a fellow officer? Plus, I had to force myself to remember to call her ma'am, so it's certainly better we not spend the night together. The accidental innuendo was enough to make him flush with embarrassment, even in the privacy of the pod. I cannot be thinking about her like that. He smacked his head against the lid of the pod, trying to beat some sense back into it. Superior Officer. N7 graduate. Could severely kick my ass. He let out a shuddering sigh. Crap. Not helping. An impressive soldier, with legs up to... Stop that, he reminded himself, yet again. She was a beautiful woman, strong and talented, a quality officer and soldier. The combination was irresistible.

Well, I just have to learn to resist. Self-control. I don't want to cross the Butcher, right? But even in their short acquaintance, it was obvious she was neither incompetent, nor a bloody sociopath, the two most popular explanations for the cluster**** that was the Torfan operation, and he found he desperately wanted to know what had really happened. Unfortunately, the OIC of the ground forces had retired under a cloud, and while rumors flew regarding Shepard's part in his dismissal, the entire thing had been classified.

The Captain probably knows, though, and he still picked her for XO. Wonder if either of them would tell me if I asked? At that he smacked his head against the lid again. Like I could manage that while pretending purely professional interest. I am an idiot. And if I keep this up, I'm going to bring back that migraine that miraculously left me alone yesterday.

Taking a few deep breaths, Kaidan strangled his hormones back under control before exiting the pod. And as he turned away from the mess to head towards the showers, he heard Commander Shepard's voice; glancing back he saw her smiling at something Corporal Jenkins had said, her lush lips softening the previously grim expression, the change highlighting the curve of her cheeks rather than the scar across her nose.
- Damn. I'm doomed."
