I really don't like the indoctrination theory! Sorry guys. Im afraid BW will just run with this theory and make it a cop-out. But the worst fear is they might says that Shep was indoctrinated so early on that the romance with Kaidan never happened and the sweet things like
"I will fight like hell to hold you in my arms again" and "I can't lose you again" and the romance scene would be consideredall in my head. I might cry then! I needa better theory then indoctrination. Im sticking with beaches being mentioned so much that's what my Shep imagined for them when I thought I was dying but what really happened is i'm breathing and Kaidan is coming to find me!

I don't think they'd do something like that, people would get waaaay too angry.

Okay, I'm back, and "If It Meant Living" is back: If It Meant Living-47: The End of the Beginning / DA Link (yep, Kaidan is in it ).  No new Kaidan art yet, but that will be coming!

My thoughts on the ending:  short version - 99% amazing, wonderful, more than I could have hoped for, 1% travesty; long version - in my Journal on Deviant Art.  I finished the game a week ago, and have spent the last week raging, talking about it in endless loops with my husband (who is just as unhappy but with 25 years of gaming is a bit more jaded), devouring the "Game and Campaign" forum, laughing hysterically at all the wonderful YouTube videos making fun of the ending, and at last starting a new playthrough - and getting a bit happier when Gibbed's save editor came out and I could play with hair and eye color .

OMG!! Did anyone EVER notice that where Shepard is bleeding is the same spot where he shot Anderson... why all of a sudden does she have a gapping wound there?!?!? I think that video is right! Pay attention to when Shepard is sitting next to Anderson and than all of a sudden hand is full of blood in THE SAME SPOT!!

Hey guys! Quick question, I'm about to watch that indoctrination video, I was wondering where's that big indoctrination thread?? I'm on my phone so it's hard searching and the browser craps out when I try the search feature on this site. I need a distraction from the looming endings in my second pt.

Also, did you guys find parallels between Shepard and Javik? Especially when he tells you that he had a crew just like ours but then they became indoctrinated? Then he had to kill them? They did say that every cycle has parallels (forgot the exact wording). I'm having horrifying visions that the hum James hear is indoctrination and I'll end up like Javik's story! But then again I haven't had coffee yet. LoL

Omg yeah you're right! I wondered where the blood came from suddenly then disappeared later on. Mention that in the indoctrination thread!

That would be cool as one of the bad endings, so long as it wasn't the only ending lol.

IKR!!! it gives the theory more credence!! I was thinking the exact same thing...and while I dont think she's been indoctrinated the whole time.. i believe the theory that they are trying to indoctrinate her fully at the end

Not just you, I got caught on the invisible cockpit of doom bug twice and had to reload (PC) - it's a freaky little error, reminds me of when I would run around sideways in ME2 while fighting and end up stuck on top of walls sometimes. Physics thing I suspect.

Wow, it's good to hear it's not just me getting stuck there.  Because between that spot by Joker, and the 2 salarians on the Presidium Commons whose mission it it to trap Shepard against a counter, I felt like there was a lot of reloading going on from being stuck...

HAhaha! that happend to my boyfriend too! he almost got caught in that twice but he escaped just in time!!

Part of me likes this theory, the developer in me thinks, "hey we have that animation for limps-after-shot-or-hurt-in-stomach" that we used on Jacob, Kaidan, Anderson, etc. etc. we'll just use that one for injured shep"

What I've never understood is how, in the synthesis ending, Shep can even have the DNA to change all races in the galaxy, he's only half machine, half human. So...how does that help the Asari, Krogan, Turians, etc?

The way I understood it, the fact that Shepard was half-synthetic is only relevant at this point in the game because it means that she will probably die if she destroys all synthetic life. If Shepard was fully organic the synthesis ending would still work. The catalyst be itself could provide the synthesis DNA to make all organic species in the galaxy half-synthetic but since there would still be pure synthetic creatures for the half-synthetic ones to fight with it wouldn't keep the peace. Shepard comes in in regards to making EDI, the geth, and all other synthetic lifeforms part organic.

I don't think it's possible without a massive retcon. We know that Shepard is not indoctrinated until right after the Cerberus base at the very earliest. The prothean AI can somehow sense indoctrination and knew from the minute he saw the not-visibly indoctrinated Kai Leng that he was indoctrinated and remarked on this while he never calls you indoctrinated. Later, he says that you came to same him from indoctrianted forces. I guess you can get indoctrinated after this point but it doesn't work any point before.

Bah, destroy is lie from the kid. If Shep is supposed to die because they're part synthetic - thus wiping out geth and EDI, why does she live at the end?

Pretty sure he was lying to get her to indoctrinate fully and avoid Shepard as the Vanguard of The Reaper's destruction. She assumed full control and called out their bluff.

Only makes sense that synthetics live if Shep lives. He said she'd die if she chose destroy, mine lived - the rest is speculation for the player which blows.

I think about the geth and EDI will get wiped out
because they have reaper tech
geth = reaper code
EDi = rouge VI and reaper tech

I just realized how on earth shepard is bleeding while anderson is not

I remember seeing one video that got me interested in the indoctrination theory. When you destroy the repears, the kid blinks out almost immediately. If you pick control, he stands there for a long time kind of staring at you with what looks like a smirk.

Reading into it too much, maybe, but it helps support the theory

Also on my renegade run, I made pretty much all the wrong choices and skipped a lot of content and control was the only option he would give me!

this is my headcanon and is based off just little things here and there.

As I understand it synthetics make a lot of erroneous assumptions about organics. We also present unknowns to them, defy predictive models-- that sort of thing. Also, Shepard is partly (mostly) organic. Organic life is malleable. People often forget how malleable it can be. For exmaple: If the part of the brain is damaged, its gone forever. But other parts of the brain start assuming functions of the missing part-- functions they were never meant to do until the injury happened. That aspect of nature and organic life is something a synthetic could never fully account for.
