Really? Everyone I know always killed Ashley off for being a space racist LOL.

I killed her because she was abrasive and off-putting. And terrible at reciting poetry. Also, Kaidan was prettier.

I killed Ashley due to chain of command dictating I save Kaidan /thatswhatIkeeptellingmyselfanyways/

Ashley was my third favorite ME character, behind Shepard and Kaidan. I hate Virmire with a passion, and I hate even more that I'll never see her again in ME2 or ME3 because I just can't kill Kaidan

Same. As much as I want to have at least one playthrough with Ash, I can't think of a reason to save her on Virmire. Kaidan romance aside, it's always down to chain of command. Not only is he the higher ranking officer, but he's also a highly gifted L2 biotic.

I hated that mShep couldn't talk to Kaidan as my fShep talked to Ash. I really like her character and hated that decision on Virmire...mainly because I can never bring myself to kill Kaidan. Posted Image

I'm not surprised the majority of people saved Ashley. But the 24% who saved Kaidan isn't as small a number as I thought it was!

Does anyone have the link to that cut dialogue from ME1 where Shepard saved BOTH Kaidan and Ashley on Virmire? Kaidan and Ashley were commenting on how Shepard deserved some kind of reward for what she pulled off on Virmire. It was on tumblr. I don't think I bookmarked it. :[

Yeah, even my dude Shep kept Kaidan instead of Ashley.  To save Ashley I had to create a space racist of my own...Amanda is not a nice Shepard.  She ended up totally turning Kaidan off!  And romancing Jacob because thre was no one left for her to romance. So yeah, ME3 is going to be fuuuuuun.

Thank gooness my canon is madly in love with Kaidan.

You can put Kaidan off Shepard in ME1? I didn't know that! I guess it makes sense though since you can do that in pretty much all Bioware games lol.

Ha, oh yeah.  Kaidan had a crush at first but then realized how crazy Amanda was and decided no ma'am, enough of that.  He shut the romance down and that was that!

For Anelle (my canon) choosing between her two friends was *so* hard.  She wanted to save Kaidan because she cared for him but wanted to save Ashley because she was her friend.  She almost went for Ashley just to prove that her feelings for Kaidan wouldn't effect her on the field but then had to go back to make sure the bomb (which Kaidan was setting since that made the most sense in story) went off.

She might really have gone for Ashley otherwise, out of a seriously strong sense of duty.  That was a REALLY hard moment for us - sometimes getting into your character's head can make playing really tough!

I swear he refered to Kaidan as Tarquin at one point when he mentions how it's a shame he didn't rejoin the crew.

Tarquin was Primarch Victus's son, from the Tuchanka Bomb mission.

It's also odd when it seems that Kaidan has more content and was handled better than Ashley, when only 24% of players have him in their games.
But we Kaidan fans are the most vocal out of any other, maybe we scare Bioware

I found that really surprising, but love that Bioware listened to us in the end. Or maybe Ashley and Kaidan have different writers?

I thought Tali's fans were the scariest and Liara's the most vocal? Maybe I've been underestimating my fellow Kaidanites!

BTW, did I mention I got one of the writers to pass on the word to Kaidan's writer how much we appreciated her efforts?  She says thanks in return!

Wow, I guess most people really didn't like Kaidan, lol. I didn't expect it to be that high.

No, I think it's mostly because it's a "hot girl versus a guy" choice, quite simply. Don't forget that 82% of Sheps are male

Yeah, I figure since more men play then women, they would rather save the girl vs. the guy. Plus, many of that percentage of men were romancing Ashley as well. I wasn't that fond of Ash, but I didn't want to kill her. It was still a tough choice, but I was romancing him, so yeah. And I simply preferred his character. Virmire is never fun for me, though. :/

BTW, saw some stats Geoff got from Bioware for "Final Hours" app. Among them, was the long-speculated and debated VS statistic. 76% of players had Ash survive from ME1. Also, over 70% of ME2 players who finished the game romanced someone. Also over 70% cheated on ME1 LI.

Somehow I expected Kaidan's survival @40%. It's surprising it's that low - but guess most players of ME are male and they rather save the girl than the guy. Maybe it's just that.

Also interesting: I'm part of a minority then if I didn't cheat on the VS, right?

OH! LOL, I was gonna say I couldn't work out why Vega would call him that! Haha, I'm such a plank sometimes.

I loved ashley in ME1, when she was running up to the windows to look at the destiny ascension, it was exactly what i wanted to do! Shes ballsy and fun, she had a lot of great comments. Yes shes suspicious of aliens, but she explains why. Sadly i do only have 1 playthrough where she survived virmire, cos well kaiiiidan with thaaat voice, nomnomnom. Im actually doing my ash playthrough atm, though shes just kind of quiet and depressed atm, hoping shell liven up once she rejoins the crew. I had intended this shep to be a jokermance but since thats not an option, she is now magically my lesbian shep! Need more attractive male LIs dammit! Not that ive got anything against the ladies, just i like more reasons for more playthroughs!

Just wished BW would have listend to both VS fandoms. I'm happy for you guys, but definitely suffer the lack of generic banter for Ash. It's as if she got two different writers: a skilled one for the romances and a trainee for the generic stuff. At least in my game she's not even flirty outside her romance scenes. If I remember her correctly, Ashley was -really- flirty in ME1 once you hooked up with her.

Or I raised expectation too high

I have never been able to connect with Ashley. I think some of it has to do with my own religious beliefs, and to me she comes off a bit on the preachy side, when I happen to be a pagan. Actually I can say that is pretty much the entire reason I never could connect with Ashley. I guess it isn't fair, but because of the way I have been treated my adult life because I am pagan just carried over.

That said, even if I could do it, I can't not save Kaidan if for no other reason than soldiers are a dime a dozen and solid officers and biotics are rare and far between.

Very true.  Especially knowing this, I'm really happy that we got as much of him as we did in ME3.  That's definitely one thing I was really happy about, having Kaidan and Garrus almost the whole time.

WHY???!! Kaidan is my Main!Shep's true love, but Ash was her sister-in-arms, her best friend... I hate Virmire so much. Why Bioware, WHY??

I never knew about this :crying: I disliked Ashley but never wanted her to die, and it's sad that Bioware were at one point intending that both of them could be saved. The game could have been completely different if they both survived. Their banter was the best!

Kaidan's mostly the same, if I recall, with the exception of cutscenes and a few random comments. I think the acknowledgement of the relationship is something all the romances are lacking, except maybe Liara's.

Edit: They originally had the option to save both? :? Dangit... Ashley was my sister and BFF, I would have thrown ANYONE else at that bomb except for Kaidan. Of course, my luck, choosing between two of my favorites. Why couldn't I have put Tali down there instead? Aside from the "Emergency Induction Port" and freaky fans, she doesn't add much to the story, and I never use her. Most of the time in ME1 I forgot she was even there, her lines weren't all that memorable.
I miss Ashley now :crying:

Their banter was so awesome, Kaidan and Ashley could have ended as couple without Virmire & Shepard romancing one of them.

Just my image of both. They were a great couple. :crying:

am I the only one who killed ashley because
I don't need another heavy hitter?
I always saved Kaidan for his Neural shock
so Kaidan + Garrus/Wrex all the way through my playthrough in me1
Only use Liara in Noveria

I love having heavy hitters. Kaidan, Ash, and I were the dream team for ME1, a biotic to weaken them plus two soldiers to get the job done. That's how I did DA:O, two warriors and a mage. And a rogue and a dog, I love the dog adding mod.
Kaidan and Liara in ME1 together were kinda overkill. That, and more often than not I'd have to reload a save because one of them would throw a table and block the only exit.

That's sort of funny.

Ashley is preachy the same way that Kaidan is whiny about his migraines meaning that they both mention the subjects in question but neither are really in your face about it. So, yeah, I'd say your personal experiences definitely rub you the wrong way.

That's OK though, I had a hard time with Cortez's marriage thing for similar reasons. The topic is a sensitive, highly-charged subject, and I had to remind myself that I was only tempted to be a d-bag about it because Cortez was a computer character and not a real person.
