The problem I see is that Bioware is not as open to criticism as they claim. They are defending the ending like a mother would a baby. They are looking at us like a bunch of angry bears rather than a bunch of concerned citizens who want to help. If they want to do this they can't do it begrudgingly and they have to open their minds and listen to what we are saying.
What I have so much trouble comprehending is the fact that the writers absolutely thought that anyone who played would accept the endings without question. If they were going for a "Lost" - type conclusion they should have realized immediately that "Lost" might not be everyone's idea of entertainment. If they were going for a "Romeo & Juliet" - type romance likewise alarms should have sounded that not everyone loves tragic tales of romance.
It's been mentioned in other posts but I'll say it again because it is appropriate: I play games to escape (if only for a few hours) the negativity that I'm bombarded with in real life. I nurture my ME romances because I don't have a Kaidan or Cortez in my life. Bottom line - there's enough tragedy out there. I don't need more of it in my games.

The planets from Zaeed and Jacob's loyalty missions has the same 2 moons as well lol. It's just, these 2 scenes - Normandy (+ teleporting squadmates) and Stargazer epilogue created more confusion than the endings managed to answer existing questionsAnacruisis wrote...

LMAO this is seriously what I'm scared of. Now the kid gives you 4 options which still suck except we get purple explosion:P
Shep builds up an army and all the mass relays explode leaving Earth's orbit filled with ships. Awesome! What happened to my friends, the galaxy afterwords, the other races, exct. Such lazy writing at the end.

Dragon Age Origins even used Klendagon for its moon. That doesn't mean Thedas is on Presrop.

Im starting 4 more characters to run through ME 1 / 2 / 3.... bored what can I say hehe
Im noticing more this run through the game (still trying my insanity run.. yes I know its taking ages)
Vega at one point said "Its like you have the opposite of a horseshoe up your ass..."
AND that robotdog! I never paid attention to it. I was heading back tot he elevator and its asleep on the floor, so I stoped to watch it. It twitches like a real dog - dreaming... you know the back leg twitching. I never noticed that before lol.
Now... did I read right that Cortez doesnt die at the end if you run through his meetups at the citadel? He died my first run, I had no idea. I like that guy!
I too wish we had the option for more Kaidan hugs etc.... and if I seem like I am rambling put it down to having the flu and crazy high temperature lol. Yay for cold and flu tablets

Wellllll

I just read the author's note. I didn't delve into the chapter yet bec now I'm nervous about what might be written. Omg I hope it doesn't mean I'll have to read something tragic in the future! I'm not over the endings yet and Manipulations is such a good fic!

"Speculation for everyone!", remember? I don't think they wanted us to accept the endings, rather, have discussions about what they could mean.
What they didn't expect is everyone disliking them so much, and agreeing upon why to dislike them and what to do to fix it. And now, they're acting really defensive, despite all the constructive posts and level headed responses... We're trying to HELP them, not attack them, because we love them. It was the most recent article released that really doused all of my hopes.
Same here... The destroying of all technology, death of our characters, and crappy fate of our crew leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Bitter, no sweet.
DA2 had a bittersweet end. The world is in turmoil, but you can still run off with your LI and the game gives you closure.
DA:O is plenty bittersweet, in all endings. You get that heroic feeling, but it comes at a cost. What that cost is, you choose.
It can be done, and BW has proven it. So... what went wrong?
...I just thought of something. The Normandy's crash makes for the perfect setup for Survivor: Mass Effect.
For anyone with writing skill, this would make an entertaining read

Sometimes I wonder if the ending suffered from a bad case of groupthink. I was a graphic designer for almost a decade and that was something we always had to watch out for when doing something as a group. It can distort your vision of your creation, AND everyone gets wrapped up in it, thinking it's the right and most amazing thing.
Or groupthink mixed with group disagreement and finally group consolidation. I get the feeling along the line that they couldn't all agree on how to end it, so someone came up with the idea of an ambiguous ending so everyone would be happy.
Everyone except the fans, that is.
And that's why I hate working in groups of stubborn people. I eventually just say "screw it" and do my own thing, should I not persuade them. Didn't three of the lead writers for BW leave between 2010 and 2012? I can see why, at this point...

Yep, I definitely wonder if stuff like this contributed. I just can't imagine how the entire game could be written so wonderfully and just fall like a dead weight right off planet earth (har) at the end. That's why I thought the indoc theory made sense. But now I wonder if there was more at work here with the ending and the writers involved.

There was a fake quote from a Bioware writer that claimed that Casey and Mac were the only ones allowed to be involved with the ending. As I said, it's a fake, but it might not be too far off. How can you write the final mission of the genophage with Mordin's death and the Rannoch mission with Legion's death and mess up the endings so badly? Unless there wasn't any discussion to begin with.
However two things are absolutely true:
1) Mac Walters wrote the ending
2) Casey Hudson cut things like the longer dialogue with Anderson and the investigation options with starchild.

Frankly, I think maybe the Normandy scene (the one that pissed me off the most out of everything) is perhaps AFTER they retrieve Shep from the rubble and you just don't see her walk out of the ship on Planet Mysterious yet. (I know, I'm grasping for straws here, BUT HEY).
This would be a way out for them! DLC Epilogue.
