I don't understand the dislike of Kaidan having rank over Shepard. I'm proud of him. He has his own career apart from Shepard. He was doing well for himself before Shepard showed up in his life and he will continue to do well with or without her. When Anderson told Shepard that Kaidan made Staff-Commander I was grinning like an idiot thinking of the possibles. There has to be a joke somewhere in there about who going to be the one giving orders...in bed...

Male. Female. Kaidan and Shepard are meant to be together.

Quite honestly I don't get Carth complaints. I think Raphael Sbarge is a stellar voice actor! One of the very best both in KOTOR and ME franchise.

It surprises me that I don't actually like Kaidan outranking Shepard. Apparently being in charge is important to me. I had no idea.

I've got nothing againt Raphael at all. And he is a great voice actor. I just hate Carth Onasi with a passion and that hatred taints everything else that voice is featured in. This is why Kaidan is dead in 90% of my ME1 playthroughs and I would like a second opportunity to kill him off in the remaining 10%.

The trial = functional equivalent of the shuttle ride at the beginning of ME2. It's to remind you of what happened in your previous saves because people have multiple playthroughs and it's been a while. My guess of what they'll bring up:

Actually, the trial could replace the comic. If Shep had to first confess/retell all he's done with the judge asking additional question. Smartly written, it could cover all the important choices and have it done in-game instead of comic!

I think that the comic and the trial could possibly go togther. For brand new players the comic and the trial would be used, for returning fans perhaps just the trial. That's how ME2 worked. I could import my ME1 Shepard w/ all the decisions that came w/ that playthrough, but then in the shuttle ride to meet the Illusive Man I could change certain aspects based on Miranda's and Jacob's questions. I didn't go through the comic at all. However, when I started a brand new game w/out an import I went through the comic and the questions on the shuttle. I think ME3 may work the same way. 

As far as how the game begins, the article in GameInformer's 217 issue Casey Hudson says, "The opening starts by showing things from around the world- New York, London, Japan. You're seeing what's happening in all these other places first, seeing these reports from major cities. Then you look out your window, and it arrives." I'm guessing that the beginning starts w/ Shepard on transport to the trial (either via Normandy, shuttle,etc) and at the same time watching the news vids around the world. Like the beginning of the news vids in the Invasion trailer, but that they won't show the part w/ the Reapers attacking...yet.

I think they have other footage their not showing for this initial part. I think you'll see more news clips about people's reactions to the impending trial and Shepard's arrival on Earth. You'll hear more opinions from experts on their views on the Reapers. I think that the part in the Invasion trailer about Earth knowing that there is a large fleet of thousands of "ships" amassing outside Earth's hemisphere will also be shown. The experts, and military spokesmen will give their reasonings, or opinions for why this fleet is amassing...but only Shepard and a few others will know the truth (Anderson, Kaidan/Ash, crew & squad members from ME2). They'll be thinking, "Oh crap, but Shepard will technically be under arrest and unable to do anything (anything helpful at the time at least).

This is where I think that Anderson and Kaidan/Ash will start to hash a plan behind the scenes. I also think that one of the reasons that Kaidan was likely made a Spectre, other than his qualifications and special commendations, is his relationship w/ Shepard (dating or know). We have seen in the past that the Allaince and the Council will use any means necessary to accomplish their goals. They might see sending Kaidan as brining Shepard in the best possible solution. The worked closely togther, served in the Alliance togther, are both human. They might think that w/ Kaidan (unlike w/ some other Spectre) Shepard is less likely to resist. So I think they send him. But he's close w/ Anderson, and w/ recent reports, especially from Hackett in Arrival they believe in Shepard and are trying to figure a way out of this mess.

I think that Kaidan (or maybe Anderson) does bring Shepard in, but shortly before the trial Kaidan leaves and that is when he readies the Normandy while Anderson stays behind w/ Shepard. I don't think that any of this would be known to Shepard at the time, but it could be, i don't think so though. I think the trial begins and Shepard begins having to answer to various things. I believ these questions will be based on key factors that Bioware will allow you to alter at the beginning of the game. Some will obviously be set in stone (aka whether Kaidan or Ash survived) but others will be open to change (maybe in case someone rwants to make changes to choices made in ME2 that will effect events later in the game, like whether or not the Geth were reprogrammed).

Once you get through those key questions, I think it will be half way through the trial and the Reaper invasion will begin. Someone might run in shouting, "We're under attack!" or "We lost New York!" or some other manner of announcing the attack has begun and then news vids of the invasion around the world will show. All chaos will break loose and Shepard will want to do something, but quickly realize that he/she will have to flee the planet, and this is where Shepard takes off with Anderson to escape. 

Along the way of escaping anderson might mention that Kaidan/Ash is w/ the Normandy and tell Shepard that they need to find a comm system to contact them. I vaguely remember seeing Anderson sayin something along these lines in one of the ME3 demos.

The article in GameInformer states, "As the invading force overcomes humanity's home, Shepard quickly realizes that the battle for Earth is lost. The only hope is to flee, gather support, and mount a counter-attack to reclaim the planet." Casey Hudson states that, "That's what the opening level is about: How can a hero run away to fight another day, and what plausible solution is there? Answering that is the core of what you're trying to do as a player. How do you stop something that is unstoppable?" (Sorry if this is a recap for those who read the article.)

Wow Crimson Roze, amazing analysis! Definitely agree on a lots of your predictions, especially making Kaidan/Ash Spectres as a mean to reach Shep! With all the info, it seems we can really piece the opening scene together quite well. Very happy Kaidan will be there form the beginning!

I would sure ****slap Liara for not telling me Shep was saved if I was in Kaidan's place. And by looking at his Horizon flip out, he won't hold back his anger at Liara.

I hope that they include this in ME3! It would eb awesome to see. He would be SO P.O.! 

@IsaacShep...I agree, based on Kaidan's reaction to Shepard on Horizon, his reaction to finding this out towards Liara would be MUCH worse. I can see something similar to to what took place in ME2 (w/ Shepard having to break up fights among various crew members) happening between Liara and Kaidan! Oooowww...that drama!

Thanks! I've been mulling this over for awhile. I'm so excited! I'm so thankful that we're able to share all our ideas. The varied opinions and thoughts really keeps the wheels in the brain turning!!!:happy:

on the note of ranks, I don't have a problem with it, and like others was quite happy to hear that Kaidan moved on and up the ranks
I'm just curious how this will be resolved or if they'll just let it slide because Ashley is still below Shepard rank-wise and treatment of VS might be streamlined ...
