I am seriously cracking up... the Jacob fan thread has 80 pages, while our support thread is the biggest one on the forums! I feel pretty bad for Jacob, I actually liked him in ME2.

Well, after what Bioware did to him in ME3, I highly doubt I'll ever romance him.

Though I'm curious: what happens if you cheat on Kaidan with Jacob and then take Kaidan with you to Jacob's mission?

Jacob is just one of those guys who wants an extraordinary woman like Shep or Miranda, but still wants to feel like he's always the alpha male.

That's why Dr. Cole is perfect for him. She's extraordinary, but not in a way that keeps him from feeling like the alpha male.

Shep and Miranda were screwed from the start because they never needed him to save them,

Kaidan doesn't need to feel like or prove he's a boss. He just knows he is, and that's enough for him. Posted Image

This was my situation on my renegade shep, I took Kaidan with me to the quest where Jacob is, and he has been ninjamanced by FemHawke, but meh!  Kaidan does not comment on the mission but will say afterwards on the Normandy - So that was Jacob Taylor huh? and then some comment about not losing out to bad person.  Nothing big - would have liked some jealous convo tbh

This thread ^ makes me sick. I don't care if it's fake. The fact that people think it's perfectly reasonable that Kaidan/Ashley would commit suicide, especially with Shepard still around is so disgusting. It's even worse than thought of them being cowards and running at the last minute.

As someone who deals with depression and has dealt with suicidal thoughts, you have no idea how angry it makes me to see something like this. Kaidan does the exact opposite of someone who has suicidal tendencies. He always talks to Shepard about his issues and feelings even if it seems "unmanly".

I'm 99% sure it's a troll but just the thought that someone wrote that makes me see red. Suicide is not a ****ing plot device for you to garner emotion and shoehorn into a completely emotionally stable character. Just **** them.

Yep.

I have chronic migraine.

I can relate from another angle. Talking about how your head hurts is not whining when it comes to migraines. Believe me! And to see how many people think that someone is just whining ... They clearly have no idea that it's actually a serious medical issue that can actually kill you (I know of two people who have had strokes brought on by migraine attack; one of them died after being turned away by an ER as a "drug seeker"). Myself, I went through a period of several years where I was averaging one day in three pain free, It's taken me several more years, a dedicated neurologist, cycling through multiple medication and behavior regimes and now a strict medication and daily living plan to get my life back and under control to where I have a normal family again - even a child, something I previously would never have entertained. And I'm only one of my family who has migraine although I am the worst off by far.

And to hear all the people who say over and over how they gleefully kill Kaidan because he mentions it? ...

Yeah, makes my blood boil. Posted Image

I get the impression that a lot of people who kill Kaidan off "because he's a whiner" are male. I suspect that it's mostly due to the fact that they feel threatened by him because he's a good looking male character with a good heart. It's the same reason a lot of men hate Alistair and Carth because they are your typical human eye candy/knight in shining armor character that a lot of women swoon after, as such those men feel threatened because they can't live up to the ideal.

Notice how a lot of them have no problem with Zevran or Garrus even though they too are considered as eye candy, I suspect that's because they aren't human therefore in their eyes they can't be expected to live up to those expectations... with a human hero character you can.

You can also bet your arse at some point these guys girlfriends have made a passing comment about said human male character being attractive and it's put their back up lol.

also dont forget, the average age of some of these guys posting are men in their mid 20's who unfortunately, more often then not have the emotional range of a teaspoon and therefore feel threatened when ANY guy starts to talk about their feelings and what not...thankfully there are plenty of decent men out there also heheh

My husband just laughs at my obsession with Kaidan, he however isnt an emotionally stunted child like a majority of the trolls on BSN

as for the Migraines.. I get them 'thankfully'  only occasionally and normally hormone triggered, they are the pits, I'm incredibly impressed with anyone that can cope with more then a few a year, I couldnt even imagine living with alot of them..wanting to kill off Kaidan cause they call him whiny for mentioning his is just lame and another sign of their emotional immaturity... le sigh

This is my first time entering this thread, so it's uncharted territory for me, but I have a question:

For those of you who have a ME3 playthrough where Kaidan lives, and a playthrough where Ashley lives, does Kaidan have more conversations after he gets back on the Normandy? Ashley only has like 2 after that. Or are they pretty much the same, with the Zaeed/Kasumi style dialogue?

Hi everyone <3

I come with a small humble question.
To get away from my ending(s) depression, I considered turning on my Photoshop and making a new Shenko-centric wallpaper for my desktop. One that shows the whole development of their romance from ME1 onwards to the, uh, "resolution" in ME3. Sadly, my PC seems to hate me and keeps crashing whenever I try to make enough screencaps to fit with what I have in mind. A friend of mine offered me some screencaps of her Shep with Kaidan, and that gave me an idea. I thought that instead of just showing my Shep's long romantic journey, I could make more of a general tribute to the romance by including different Shepards from different players, all united in their love for and appreciation of Kaidan and his arc. I guess it'll be kind of a tribute to the Kaidanites, as well, now that I think about it.
Eh, that sounded way cheesier than I intended, but I hope you can still guess what I meant with it...
I don't know if there's any interest at all in my little project and I don't want to bore you all into oblivion, so I won't go into details right now. But I would, of course, gladly share all of my ideas with anyone who might be interested. There'd be a lot of pictures and a lot of quotes!
In short, my question would be: Is there any interest in contributing to such a project? Would you be willing to send me screencaps en masse that I could then use for the wallpaper? I'd completely understand if you weren't fine with sharing your screencaps and Shepards, of course.

Nice idea there, been using some of my ME3 screenshots as a desktop background and would love something like this but I don't have the artistic talent to make anything myself. Would be happy to send you some, although alot of my ME3 ones have the subtitles on, hmm excuse to play through my Kaidan romance again for more nice pictures I think! Don't have any from ME1 but I do have a save before every Kaidan conversation on the Normandy so can easily take some :)

Lol sounds about right, it all boils down to jealousy. I've seen woman go into a rage for their boyfriends finding female characters attractive.

Ok

I was assuming that they were about equal. I just don't know if it would be worth it to play through the games again just so I can hear whatever few lines he has to say. I just never really bothered with Kaidan. Either save the hot chick or the boring dude.

Okay so I just finished Thessia (again) and is anyone else really frustrated that you can't tell off Liara for acting like her's is the only planet being destroyed when we already know both Earth and Palaven have been pretty much destroyed? Or, for that matter, the Asari leadership for not sharing their info. YEARS before when they knew you had a Cipher for that kinda stuff? No. All you do is apologize and then yell at all of the people whose fault it isn't (ie. Joker, EDI, ect.).

The asari are selfish the whole game through. It's like the asari and turian councilors suddenly swapped personalities.

I also found it odd that even though Commander Shepard has this cipher that lets her decipher things like a Prothean would, no one ever thought that she might be, I dunno, useful when it comes to figuring out tiny little things like Proithean ARCHIVES on Mars. But that's just me ...

I guess the house arrest for 6 months was way more important.

I personally thought the Asari were always arrogant.  The Asari councilor always seemed to me to be the instigator behind the scenes of everything that happened on the Council, if you notice in the first two games at least, everyone looks to her before decisions are made.  Then every Asari you met outside of Liara (and even her to some extent starting in ME 2) just came across to me like 'You aren't worth my time, but I'll do you the favor of talking to you'.

I don't know.  I just never cared for the Asari much throughout the games.

I have heard people saying that he tends to roam around the ship more and talk to the other characters, and that Ashley tends to stay isolated.

I think they've been chalking that up to Ashley's original writer having left and her replacement not being very good at writing for her. That makes it sound to me like Ashley became the hot, boring chick while our so-called "boring" dude is still the same awesome dude all of us here love. Posted Image

I too suffer from chronic migraines, on tons of medication for it in an effort to keep it down to 1 a week, instead of 3 out of 7 days a week. I can't even begin thinking anyone who has migraines at all being a whiner, it's just painful and debilitating sometimes.

As for the supposed 'leak' I don't buy it at all. Though considering the last leak... I'm not even going to go there, it's not happening. Even if it had at some point been considered, I would hope that the backlash from the ending would snap them out of their trance and make them go 'eh that might not be a good idea'.

Agreed.  But I gots to warn y'all that sometimes it can get really creepy in here. Not the level of "Fatal-Attraction-pet-rabbit-in-the-stew-pot" creepy but there have been a few 'back away slowly and avoid eye contact' moments with posters who were a bit...shall we say possessive?...with their Kaidenlove. We had a few of those in the Alistair thread at one time too...lol And the Fenris thread (let me kill Isabela because she hooked up with Fenris when I didn't romance him!!!).

This thread though is pretty tame in comparison, though I have one thing I don't understand. I like to think Cortez somehow managed to get a shuttle through once big bad reaper stopped firing, or between shots, and grabbed my ground team (Kaidan, Garrus), and got them to the Normandy when Vetta went down. On HER orders that if anything happened to her, and things went FUBAR, they were to be gotten the hell out. Because she doesn't want Kaidan using HER as an Anchor anymore than Robert wanted Steve to.

She wouldn't want Kaidan to stay and possibly die if she didn't make it. They had their goodbyes, they both KNEW this was coming.  So...she spent her last wish for HIS safety.

So I get confused a bit when people want him to STAY down there where he would likely die. If it turns out she doesn't die and he is somewhere else...well by god they'll find each other some way, some how. They always do. But that's my headcanon I guess, and others may vary.

All in all I'm glad I delurked here. It's the first thread I've been truly active on since DA II came out.

Oh and I saw something on Tumblr yesterday. I can't find it now, but someone posted a screenshot of the planet Zaeed's loyalty mission is on...and it's two moons...which looked just like where our crew lands. So hey, we know where to look!

The interesting thing I always found about Kaidan is how, unlike a whole lot of other characters you can run into within game narratives, he doesn't talk about his past or his problems or whatnot because he needs you to fix him or whatever - he typically talks about it either because you asked or because he cares and wants to help you.

In games in general, romance can often take a form of a love interest wants something, you do something for them, and the romance is the payoff for that. Kaidan always struck me as very much the opposite - he wants to be there for you as much as you're there for him.

It's not so much that as the whole improbability of it.

Garrus and Kaidan were right there behind me, and I didn't make it and neither did anyone else if you listen to the radios. Sooooo, how did Cortez fix his busted bird (which flies like a brick on its best days), fly over dodging Harby's beam all the way, pick up the two guys watching my six without getting me, fly out equally safely, manage to find Joker, who has someone managed to fly his way safely through the massive space battle taking place above, get aboard, then they all navigate their way safely past the massive space battle that they are supposed to be fighting in (Hackett's orders not mine, btw) heading for parts unknown (apparently running, why?), and are making relay jumps at the end when I actvate gawd child's stupid fixed directives?

When in all hells did they have the TIME to manage all this? I wasn't on (or thinking I was on) the Citadel all that long.

It isn't about wanting them safe or not. It's about what's possible.

I don't want Kaidan to stay in the middle of a lost battle zone either.  I think most of us here are just confused about the entire Normandy scene at the end.  I mean, even IF by some freak of nature Joker were to run from battle, I can see Kaidan knocking him out and getting Cortez or someone else to get them back to the battle.  The Normandy wouldn't run, I just don't see it.

As you said, I can see Cortez comandeering a shuttle and getting Kaidan and Garrus out of the hot zone if Shepard disappeared, I just can't see any of them letting the Normandy leave the area, until they know it's done.  More like as Victus said 'If I'm going to die, I want to be with my men so there's no doubt we fought to the last soul.'  So yeah, while I can see them getting out of the hot zone, they wouldn't leave the battle, and I think that is more where most of our problems lie.

Ash got a new writer? I'm running my only Ash playthrough now and I found her to be... lackluster compared to her ME1 self. She seems to "tone down" a lot... My brother was watching me play my canon and he was surprised to see Kaidan got all "Don't Kaidan me , this is business". He was surprised because he thinks Kaidan is like this super nice dude. And then he went "why is Ash so calm and patient in ME3?"

And then he started playing his own Shep and didn't get that scene from Kaidan lol (watching his game, I think that the Mars scene is actually one of the missions where the difference between romance or non-romance is a lot). He asked me if he's like one of the only 100 guys who saved Kaidan in Virmire... lol

Did anybody actually chose the "yeap this is goodbye" option during the London scene...? I can't bring myself to do it but I'm curious as to what Kaidan says? Knowing the ending, it make me sad every time to hear Shep says "when this is over, I will be waiting and you better show up"... and then to have that hope dashed :(

Makes sense!

I guess I just came up with my headcanon to try and make sense of it myself. I'm replaying and nowhere near the end yet. At around 3900 EMS, hoping I can get to the "good" ending this time. Though...still kinda like Synth as an emergency backup plan.

I dunno what happens if you romance him and say that, but if you're just his friend Shepard says "yeah" and he says "I'm not afraid to die"

Edit: I found a link for the romance one, it's a little disappointing:
