I really wish people would stop "leaking" things. I have a serious suspicion the jackedupness of the endings was in large part due to the earlier leaks and the team trying to adjust by cutting things out to maintain the "surprise". But I'll just stick with "believe it when I see it" seems to be the safest bet at this point.

^Absolutely this. In some sick, twisted and perverted way I hope it was an experiment on BioWare's part: come up with a rumor about Mass Effect that is so outrageously unbelievable that only a moron would be taken in by it, "leak" it, then sit back with mimosas and laugh their glutes off as the more....'passionate'...fans froth at the mouth at the news.

Maybe it's just me but this whole brouhaha over the endings sounds like it's beginning to spiral out of control. Posted Image

But hey -- since this is a Kaidan thread, let's have him rock a little, ok?

Concerning the suicidde plot here's what post form 4chan said (you can check it out in spoilers section---possible leak----page 25):

"- BioWare has been meaning to introduce a main character suicide plot element for some
time now. They intended to do this with Kaidan/Ashley in Mass Effect 2, wrought with
guilt over the death of the other, but this idea was discarded when the director felt
that it would be too forced, and that players would feel as though BioWare simply
killed them off so that they wouldn't have to deal with their character branches
    anymore."

so if this is true it seems it was dropped. But i really doubt this. You can read it tho. If the whole leaked story is true then it's really streched... and bad <_<

if they hadve done that in this game regardless of the endings, I would never ever ever ever ever  buy another Bioware game again ever!!

Lamest plot device ever!!

I know its hard for people at the moment but its a wait and see game at the mo... fanfic and chocolate helps alot... just sayin, oh and this thread hehehe :innocent:

Firstly, they already had suicide with Tali which made sense. Her whole life was based around her people and getting back to her homeworld. Seeing all that wiped out with the permission of her closest friend, she felt like living was pointless and she may as well die on Rannoch then never see it again and carry the burden of being the last of her race. But that was a spur of the moment thing not a slow deterioration. This is the easiest way to do it in fiction without offending anyone, but also the easiest way to throw suicide into your plot for teh dramaz which annoys me.

That said, if Bioware said it like they did above, it's obvious the have no idea how to deal with something as complicated as suicide and simply looks like they want to throw it in to create drama. If you want to do something like that, do it right. If they commit suicide it completely invalidates your choice on Virmire and implies that Kaidan/Ashley cannot deal with war. It would be like my uncle who killed one person in Vietnam committing suicide over it. While he's still scarred from the experience, he knew the consequences of not pulling the trigger. The same way Kai/Ash knew that people die in a war and that they should respect the sacrifice the other made.

The subject of suicide is very serious and when it's not a sudden decision by someone who has lost  everything in a matter of moments, it needs to be VERY well done. Suicide is not in the characters of Kaidan/Ashley. Both of them have families to live for and both of them have been through hell. There is never a time when either of them withheld their emotions and became very quiet or seemed depressed to the point where you think they would hurt themselves. It makes no sense to just toss it in there and it simply looks like you are doing to be all deep and dramatic. But it's not deep, it's as shallow as shallow can get and it disrespects people like me who deal with this issue all the time. If Bioware did something like this, I would buy a used copy so they would get no money and then I would burn it and use the fire to roast marshmallows. That would be the only use of a game like that.

And if it was a troll who wrote that, simply replace troll with all the times I said Bioware.

This was my situation on my renegade shep, I took Kaidan with me to the quest where Jacob is, and he has been ninjamanced by FemHawke, but meh!  Kaidan does not comment on the mission but will say afterwards on the Normandy - So that was Jacob Taylor huh? and then some comment about not losing out to bad person.  Nothing big - would have liked some jealous convo tbh

That's not exciting. <_<
Thanks for the info! I was really curious if it opened up a new conversation option or something.

Jumping in on the conversation about crew/Kaidan not showing too much concern about Shepard. Well, Joker and Garrus aside (and if you go back to talk to Tali after talking to Liara about Thessia she'll kinda show she's concerned about Shepard too). I thought it was a very good opportunty for some "I care about how you're feeling" chatting with Kaidan...but no. =_= I also kinda wanted more...couple talk with Kaidan. Knowing that this could all be their last go around, you would think they'd be taking every moment possible to talk...maybe flesh out more how Kaidan was doing during those two years of thinking her dead, that whole doctor-date thing, yaddayaddayadda...

I don't know whoever wrote the romance scripts and whatnot, but I wanna say it wasn't a girl or at least a team primarily composed of guys. Because it's been my experience as a girl and hearing from other girls playing games that girls tend to think of so much more that can be done with a romance. XD I know I was thinking of opportunities for more while I was playing so...ME3 left a little more to be desired out of the romance.

I thought that the romance scenes that they had were amazing (they touch more, have more facial expressions, and VAs sounded amazing), but I did think we could've had more conversations. Actually, I think we could've had more conversations with everyone on the Normandy. They were all like Zaeed (talking, but you can't interact with them), which was kind of a let down.

They should've done it like in ME1, where we could just go up to them after a main mission and talk about it. It made it a lot more...human.

Dear Bioware, you should hire some girls for your team. We think about things you guys don't B)

This. You don't throw suicide in for drama, ESPECIALLY soldiers without seriously looking at the real world implications. My husband lost a close friend to suicide, because he couldn't deploy with his company (due to discipline issues, and he hated himself THAT much for it), other soldiers he's known come back from hell and commit suicide, and others that suffer with that temptation every. single. day.

You do NOT make that a plot device. It is too serious an issue for today's military and their families, and we don't need to see it used as a ploy.

I'm way late to this discussion but hey just woke up. Thessia I'm about to head their and I'm taking Javik:devil: I've seen videos and I got to say it's the best out of all the teammates. Plus then they have this huge fight afterwards that you have to go break up. See www.youtube.com/watch

Also about me leaving Kaidan on earth my thought process was he was surrounded by the best most lethal biotic soldiers and like Jack says what is more scary than a bunch of pissed off biotics. I felt his survival rate would be much higher. Also the scene with the soldiers celebrating at the end if that was true and not some hallucination means higher rate of survival for him. At least he is on Earth and if I'm not dead so am I. Until I understand the stupid scene with the Normandy this is the most logical one to me. Joker running away from the battle before I made my decision and he barely made a jump right as the explosion is coming? Whole ending sucks and makes no sense what so ever.

It's just too bad you can't have a romance with him if you leave him on earth.  I didn't even see an option to do that, but I never really considered it, so I probably missed it.

The whiskey from the vendor machine at the hospital - you give it to him when you see him at the hospital when he wakes up.

No I left him on Earth at the final battle I didn't take him with me to the final fight. I had him with me on the Normandy the whole game just left him with his biotics at the end of the game. Just in my mind his chances of survival were higher being surrounded by a bunch of trained lethal biotics. Plus if I really am unconscious and alive on Earth and he is alive on Earth better chances of meeting up. The Normandy is just one big wild card to me right now. Until that scene is explained then I will decide if I take Kaidan with me at the end of the game. Except he still walks out of the Normandy whether you take him or not to the final battle. This is why I hate the endings. That makes no sense to me:pinched:

My headcanon explanations of that scene (they change depending on my mood and on the Shep in question):

1) Coma dream/ dying hallucination: Even if you're not a fan of the indoctrination theory, given the scene where someone in charred black N7 armor takes a breath, it's safe to assume that Shepard is dead/dying or unconscious towards the end of the game. So I figure Shep hallucinates/dreams that everyone they care about is safe and unharmed on some tropical paradise.

2) Everyone is dead: Basically what it says on the tin. Everyone is dead, the tropical planet is heaven, Kaidan is smiling because he and Shep have eternity to be together. The Normandy blast/crash is analogous to a similar scene in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Final Battle, in which stuff happens and people wind up in heaven, which just looks like a nicer version of where they want to be in the first place, without realizing how they got there. Tali and Garrus won't starve to death because they're already dead. Also EDI and the geth have souls so they're ok too. Only works for 4/6 of my Sheps.

A third possible explanation which I refuse to use with any of my Sheps but could conceivably be argued:

3) The grandfather said so: Basically the grandfather is telling the story and a story that ends in death and destruction and gloom for everyone kinda sucks to tell a kid. Also he needs a way for humans to wind up on the planet which they live on. Thus: make up silly 'happy' ending to make little kid happy.  I don't use this possibility for any of my Sheps because that would mean that I accept the endings as they are and I really don't/

Out of interest, if you don't let Kaidan back on the Normandy do you get to talk to him over the comm like you can with your ME2 team mates during the final scene before you take back Earth?

Hey guys! So I started ANOTHER playthrough lol I didn't finish my second pt..ended that when the beam got me. I refuse to play the endings for the sake of my emotional well being. I can't get enough of Kaidan so I decided to play my only Shepard that had an ME2 romance...it's Thane. My question is (this makes me feel all sorts of horrible) that he dies at the Citadel 2, will I be able to rekindle my romance again with Kaidan? Or do I need to break it off with Thane when I first see him (ugh feel guilty doing that too lol)....also will this affect me getting the butt oogling scene coz that's all sorts of giggly fun for me. Sorry if this was answered before. I can't find a straight answer

Those of you that brought Kaidan into the final battle, did you notice him laying on the ground in front of you after you were hit by the beam? He's like reaching for you, then passes out (I hate to think he died). I found this odd because Garrus was no where to be found...plus, they were both hanging back during the final push.

You know, if this new leak has done one thing right, it's made me like the endings a lot more. We've just been shown something WORSE than what we've already got, if that's even possible.

I don't believe any of it, though. Not only is it too far fetched, but the source is very unreliable, and that doesn't sound like something BW would ever do. I still have faith in the company... Plus, I've seen four different "leaks" coming from 4Chan about ending DLC, and every single one of them contradicts each other. Until PAX clarifies something, I'm not believing a word of this.
It's pretty easy to make false leaks and claims. Heck, pretty much any one of us could pretend to leak info, and make it sound convincing enough. It's not very difficult.

Did I ever tell you guys that I'm secretly one of the sound editors at Bioware Edmonton? I've worked there for six years, great company! Hey, listen to what we're planning-

That wasn't Kaidan, at least not in my game. Different armor and didn't look like him. If your EMS is low enough, you do see your squadmates lying dead in front of you, which may have been your case. And trust me, I analyzed every soldier thoroughly on the ground, so much so that I died at least 10 times because I wasn't paying attention to the husks.

Glad to see someone else noticed that! I also took Kaidan and Garrus with me, and saw someone that really looked like Kaidan on the ground, but at that point I wasn't even thinking straight anymore (too afraid to see the endings after everyone else's reaction) and I'm not sure if it could really be him.. :?

I thought it was a random soldier too at first, until I took a closer look. If it isn't him, then someone stole his armor.  My EMS was pretty high, I got the ending where Shep breathes after the Stargazer sequence.

Edit for clarity.

I think you will see your squadmates lying there if your EMS is too low - not sure why you would see Kaidan but not Garrus though.  In my two playthroughs (once all wide-eyed and innocent, once just so I could get enough notes to write my alt. ending) I had EMS over 4000 and couldn't find them anywhere.
