I have a question. Does anyone know if this whole "Take back Mass Effect" movement has a public document? I'm talking like a mission statement, petition, type thing? My next assignment for my Rhetoric Composition class is analyzing public documents. I'd LIKE to use the current situation with ME3 as my subject, as it's something I understand, and am sort of a part of.

I believe there is a Google doc out there with a bunch of stuff on it, I'll go fiddle through the thread and see if I can find it for you.

Thanks Altie, I'm all curious now. I hadn't thought to search youtube until you mentioned it.  /facepalm

trying to imagine Kaidan's voice as anything but Raphael's just doesnt seem right.. one thing from that terribad review thingy from a couple of pages ago is that Raphael Sbarge made Kaidan what he is... sure the writers wrote some great stuff but Raphael gave him life with that delicious voice of his lol

I'm sure I'm very late to it but I recently found the youtube video where RS reads Kaidan's letter about Horizon from ME2. Awesome. When I played ME2 I was pretty irritated by the letter but after hearing it in Kaidan's voice I just felt so bad for him. I love the voice acting in these games.

I played the french version only for the first game - but I heard the dubbing was worse in ME2 and ME3.

Some of them are OK I think. In the first game, I liked Garrus, Liara's and Wrex voices, for instance. I eventhink that I like Wrex voice better in french.
Tali has no accent in the french version.

The french femshep is OK for the action, or when she's not happy, but when she tries to sound nice, or flirty, it is awful. She is just ridiculous. And anyway, I'm in love with Jennifer Hale's voice and acting.

As for Kaidan, he always sounds like an enthousiast boyscout. Very "sir yes sir", even in the intimate scenes. It just sounds... wrong. And he has nothing of the warmth of Sbarge's voice.

Another problem is the traduction : sometimes too litterate, or confusion between femshep/maleshep lines.

I can try to find some youtube examples, if you're curious ?

I would love to see a french krogan. It would be so classy.

JE SUIS KROGAN.

Edit: Found French Wrex

I loved Kaidan in ME3 he was great and your love story with im was really gripping and sweet. I just wish there was more at the end. Really want to see a send off and what happens with Kaidan and Shepard cos they have such a history, it would be just nice to see where their relationship goes :)

I think this is something we can all agree on :?

Also, I kind of wish there was a conform scene after Thessia or something... but no, everyone is comforting Liara <_<

Haha yeah I totally agree with you lol I mean okay I do feel for Liara, but I mean I want cuddles from Kaidan, Thats right 'I' Haha I totally have no life when it comes to Mass Effect xDPosted Image

I'm actually playing my Garrus romance playthrough right now which was an ME2 playthrough only. This was to allow me to have made all of the not-as-fun decisions (like killing Wrex) without actually having to watch them. I'm too paragon to make the bad decisions and when Kaidan tells me to save the council in ME1, I always do.

But while the Garrus romance is awesome, I still end up going to talk to Kaidan the most and my husband has to hear my complain about "Why won't Kaidan talk to me! I'm his best bro!". The hospital scenes were actually kind of depressing because I just kept waiting for him to hit on me.

Yeah Kaidan just makes you want to talk to him lol Hospital scenes were sad but I must say I did enjoy seeing him geet better and us talking about Horizon a little bit because I was so gutted in ME2 when the thing on Horizon happened xD

I had 8 pt's for Mass Effect. I have only one that romanced Kaidan in ME1 and moved onto Garrus in ME2. The rest stayed loyal to their love for Kaidan. I'm scared to play my sentinel now. I don't know if I can resist Kaidan or not! I started her last night and I can already see I'm having a hard time with it! :(

Lol, I hate it when people hate on a character just for his voice. It's like going up to someone new and when they introduce themselves, you punch them in the face and say, "You sound like some jerk I used to know!"

That doesn't even account for the fact that I never thought Carth was a jerk or all that whiny of course.

I never thought Carth was whiny, however he could get somewhat annoying if you were trying to do a dark side play through.  Though again, I never thought that was a good reason to dislike him, if nothing else it made me like the character more.  /shrug I guess I'm weird.

Hey, guys! Just catching up after a few days away. Anyway, there's something I've been meaning to ask but have been too embarrassed. You guys know that Citadel scene in ME1 where Shepard talks about this "emotion called love" and Kaidan says "Well, when you put it that way, there's no reason they wouldn't like you"?

Okay, I don't mean to sound stupid, but what exactly does Kaidan mean when he says that? I get that this is where he starts to show a romantic interest in her, but how exactly? Is he saying that Shepard is also beautiful?

Sorry...I just wanted a little clarification. :)

I always assumed that the dialogue is just that different for male and female characters.  Cause I didn't find Carth whiny,  and while I didn't hate her, I can't say I actually liked Bastila.  A guy friend hated Carth and liked Bastila.

Here's the full quote:

Female Shepard: The council represents more races than I thought. No wonder they’re careful with newcomers.

Kaidan: They probably just want to keep everything running. It has to be hard keeping all these cultures working together.

Ashley: Or maybe they just don’t like humans.

Female Shepard: Why not? We’ve got oceans, beautiful women, this emotion called love. According to the old vids, we have everything they want.

Kaidan: When you put it that way, there’s no reason they wouldn’t like you. I mean, us! Humans! Ma’am.

Ashley: You don’t take much shore leave, do you, LT?

Yeah, he's saying that Shepard is a beautiful woman, in a fumbling, awkward way.

Yeah, he's basically slipping up after Shepard says 'beautiful women' and saying that he thinks she's beautiful. It was so adorable, one of my favorite convos from mass effect.

Guess that could be, because I am not particularly fond of Bastilla myself.  I just don't know.

@ syllogi and yoshibb: Thanks so much! *sigh* He's so adorable and cute and awkward in that scene! Definitely one of my favorite moments between them. :D

@ Sleepdribble: Those shots are awesome. I LOVE when he kisses Shep's hand. He's such a sweetheart.

I do not even look at hands in Bioware games. The minute I do it just destroys any connection to the scene and all I can think about is, OMG weird ass skeletor hands! They're merging with her body, ahh!!

So yeah, I almost always stare at people's faces.

I was thinking last night about people complaining about carth being whiney, then i played some MP, then i decided i wanted a saved audio clip of my krogan doing his 'Stop whining!' line, then everytime i saw someone going on about carth or kaidan being whiny i wanted to play that audio track at them! Stop whining about people being 'whiny' *insert krogan roar here* :D:devil::D

Happy to help :) I can't imagine being able to play in a different language -- I might be able to understand Shep ask for directions to the bathroom but that'd be about it. Are the french voices all horrible?

By the time my husband and I discovered ME, we couldn't find an original English version in stores, so we bought a French version. When it's all you know, it's not so bad, but then I discovered the awesome-ness of Jennifer Hale and Raphael Sbarge in ME2 and ME3 and I have a hard time going back to ME because of the voices.

Some say that Mark Meer's performance is wooden and flat? Try French Femshep. Especially next to Jennifer Hale, it almost sounds like text-to-voice. French Kaidan is not so bad, but he uses a very ordinary speaking voice, so it lacks the soulful, husky quality that makes Kaidan, well, Kaidan. Liara and Tali almost sound like children, so I had a hard time taking them seriously.

One things that really bugs me too is the fact that Bioware has an office in Montréal and French dubbing is a growing industry here, but they're having the translations done in Europe. The language is the same, but comparing Canadian French to European French is a bit like comparing American English to British English, so there are some expressions and turns of phrase that I actually would have understood better in English than in European French... Posted Image Also, while I'm convinced plenty of French people are fluent in English, the ME translations are full of mistakes. For example, my husband plays ME3 with the French subtitles. "Departing soldier" was translated to "Soldat mourrant", which actually means "Dying soldier". Legion calls Shepard "Administrator Shepard" instead of "Shepard-Commander". It's really bad. Posted Image

Anyway, I'm hoping that once I find a job and actually have money to spend I can find a pre-owned English copy of ME somewhere.

Edit: Crap, TOP! Here, have a sleepy Kaidan. Posted Image
