Okay, so I have a question maybe you fanfic writers can give me an opinion on:
Last night, I was suddenly attacked by a plot bunny, and spontaneously wrote half of a fanfic (intending to finish it today and possibly upload it). However, I went on fanfiction.net just to browse a bit, and found a fanfic someone had written about a week ago with a chapter very similar to the idea I was working on. Not identical, but pretty similar. Now, I'm questioning whether or not I should upload mine... I hadn't seen theirs when I began writing it, but I don't want to cause any sort of plagiarism/idea stealing issues. Theirs was a chapter of a longer story, whereas mine was just going to be a oneshot. Opinions on whether or not I should finish and upload mine?

I had this thought too when I was compelled to write my first fanfic but I look at it this way.  We're all writing about the same people in a game we love but from different perspectives, and that changes because of the way we play the game and the way we would like our characters to develop.  There are bound to be times when one story sounds like another, feels like another but that revolves around the limitations of the characters we're using.  Only our imaginations come up with the differences.
Please upload - I love reading the fanics like everyone else and yes some are similiar but I haven't found two yet that are exactly the same.

Thanks for the feedback  I ended up emailing the author of the fic, and she told me she was perfectly fine with me uploading something similar. I'm just adding the finishing touches on it right now, but I can't decide which characters to list it under. It's a Shenko fic, that much is stated pretty clearly, yet Kaidan only has a few lines and is never seen or directly interacted with. It's mostly between Shep and Ash. I'm not sure whether to list it under Shepard and Kaidan, being that it's Shenko in tone, theme, and face value, or Shepard and Ashley, because they're the two with the most content. Help, anyone?

*gasp!* You actually get messages from Kaidan with the datapad app?! That's so cool! Unfortunately, I tried downloading it to my iPod, and it says my iPod is not compatible.

I always wondered what happened to Kaidan after he leaves the hospital. It sucks that we can't even be at his Spectre ceremony.

List it as Shenko.  Kaidan hasn't made an appearance in my latest r/s but it's still a Shepard that is faithful to him so as far as I'm concerned it's Shenko, lol

Fanfic keeps me going, awesome reading everyone's ideas. Need cheering up  - guessing my renegade fail Shep will need to choose Quarians or Geth soon. She gave Legion to Cerberus, so I lost points there, and from what I read if you don't have him you can't resolve this amicably if you do that so...

Quarians - they started it! But, Tali's on the crew, and crew always come first (even for renegade Shep)
Geth - oh who am I kidding, I'm going to choose Destroy, they'll be dead anyway. I guess I should just stop caring.

See, that's where it falls down - there's only one "right" ending in my mind, but if I choose it then either all synthetics end up dead or it was all a dream and we don't know what happens next because there is no closure. 

On the plus side, nice to see some Kaidan concern on the way to the Geth collective, even in Friend mode with renegade Shep - they may not be romantically involved, but their friendship still runs deep. Makes me feel less bad keeping her with Garrus.

Well it depends on your opinion. I let my Shepard kill Udina because 1) he's an ass 2) My Shep is an renegade...

But it really depends on your own opinion on the situation. The reputation system in ME3 is designed so you can play around being Renegade or Paragon, mix it up a little, and be a bit gray.

besides he's doing his job to protect the council from any harm
including Udina:devil:
or back up a save after you kill udina the reload again to let Kaidan kill him

I let my Paragon Shepard do it the first time through, but I regret it a bit now.  If Kaidan does it, there's a little more character development that happens and I think it's just better, symbolically, if Kaidan shot Udina.  The "integrity" part of the conversation you have with Kaidan when you recruit him means more if Kaidan does it.

But I think it makes sense if Shepard does it too because 1) Shepard wants to protect Kaidan from this desperate psycho holding a gun and 2) Udina's really an ass and Shepard wanted to do something like this since the first game.

Ultimately I would shoot him because I don't want Kaidan to feel guilty about it afterwards...

It's Kaidan's moment to step out on his own. He's a Spectre now, and he was the one tasked with protecting the Council.

Paragon Shepard could try to talk Udina down, but it's not his decision to make, and Kaidan makes the right call.

I think it works better to let him take the shot. Kaidan saved the Council, not Shepard.

Yeah... I didn't really want Kaidan to shoot Udina for similar reasons... Even though Shepard taking the shot takes away Kaidan (or Ashley) for their character development, I just remember how Kaidan doesn't like killing people, going back to his Vyrnus (is that how you spell his name?) confession. I just didn't want him taking the shot. I guess it's selfish of me. Who knows...   :/

Still that scene was tense!

True, Kaidan doesn't like killing people, let alone hurt people... he says this in ME1 I think. This was another reason my Shepard himself shot Udina.

but devSin you make extremely valid points that I haven't considered. It was Kaidan's job, after all, to protect the council. Shooting Udina would be his defining "moment" that really shows that Kaidan is a Spectre.

I think I might go reload the save now and have Kaidan shoot him, lol. I'll only lose about an hour of gameplay with all of the citadel quests being activated after, but I want all these choices I make to be perfect!

Does anyone knows if this will bite me in the ass later? because I think that I continued the relationship with Garrus and I went to visit Kaidan for the first time...but he said something about friends when she asked him about the horizon thing...

I'm going with, "It was all a hallucination and Bioware will be releasing an expansion to the ending in the next 6-12 months."

I strung them both along as long as I could.  Then I got the "I'm Garrus Vakarian and this is now my favorite spot the Citadel" line and I realized that maybe Garrus could have one of my Shepards.  I mean, Kaidan has all the others.

Of course in order to acheive this I had to do reload in order to complete the Garrus date first.  I can't actually say no to Kaidan, so it's better if he just doesn't ask.

I turned down Kaidan in my Garrus-mance playthrough. It was rather heartbreaking. I don't recommend it.

I agree with leborum. 33% survival rate for Kaidan in his playthroughs is a lot better than the 0% survival rate for Ashley in my playthroughs I really like Ashley, but I can never get through a playthrough without Kaidan.

I think it's fairly likely if you're a regular on this thread, her survival rate is somewhere in the range of 0%. I couldn't imagine ever leaving Kaidan behind.

Edit: Oh, top. Uhm. Here's how distracting Kaidan is for my Shep - he can get her attention even while she's being shot at!
