I started calling our new cat Marauder because he's a big bad boss cat (cute, but big and demanding and hard to beat in a fight) - now my 6yr old son has started calling him Marauder too.

And yeah, people keep saying they were "gifted" to another organization but...if they didn't eat it, they didn't accept them.
I don't know if it's Canadian thing(no offense), but in my country, if I get a gift and give it to someone else (even charity), it is seen as a rejection and a very rude thing to do...but that's just me.

I don't see it as rude in general, although I think a better move would have had at least one staff member eating one very publicly (or, better yet, three of them, each with one color) and then sending the rest off to a worthy cause. I haven't heard how many cupcakes there were but I got the impression that it was quite a lot. Wouldn't it be worse to hear about dozens of stale cupcakes being found in the trash out back in a couple of days?

And, erm, Kaidan would totally eat cupcakes. There! Back on topic.

After walking away for an hour then coming back I realize that there was no other thing Bioware could have done. Accepting the cupcakes would be kind of depressing because they deliberately call Bioware out on the endings, and apparently most of the employees are on vacation anyways so most of the cupcakes would have gone to waste. Bioware did keep the letters with all the fan feedback on them that came with the cupcakes and Chris Priestly clearly stated that they got the message loud and clear. On top of that needy kids get delicious treats, so really everyone wins except for poor Bryan Johnson, a mod that was especially gung-ho about receiving the cupcakes.

tl;dr Donating the cupcakes was the right thing to do on Bioware's part.

Edit: Here's a Kaidan from ladywinde (if you couldn't tell by now I'm a huge fan of her work<3)

That kinda makes sense to me. 

I hope BW isn't offended by the cupcakes.  I don't want them to feel bad, I just want some more post-Catalyst content.  They did a super awesome job with most of the game and when you think about all the amazing work with the full trilogy they should be very proud of themselves.  

And now after reflecting on criticism, maybe they can do a super awesome job of fixing the teeny, tiny bump in the last game.  Okay, so maybe it's not so tiny, but you get the idea.

Edit: catgirl, you are totally right.  after all children love cupcakes.

So here's the thing that ticks me off. They won't accept the cupcakes because they are a criticism on their game. They also ignore the fact that we sent them out of love as well. If it was just a message being sent, there's a lot of other things we could've sent to them that weren't so tasty. It's like they are saying "I'm sorry, we don't accept criticism."

So you say there's no other way? That it may impossible to eat all these cupcakes? Let me offer a solution. See that middle paragraph?

The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.

Yeah, that one. Remove it. Now it has nothing to do with how they won't accept criticism or rejecting cupcakes and it's simply about giving them to charity.

But no, they had to put that little dig in, didn't they?

Oh and remember how the media were accusing us of using a children's charity as a shield? Oh look, now Bioware is doing the same thing. And they of course make sure to send the story to gameinformer instead of just posting it to the forums where it originated. Now the fans can't complain or else they are hating children. I just love PR departments.

People need to remember that Bioware is a business. At the end of the day, it's about the bottom line.

Here this should make you feel better, I know it helped me. Chris Priestly saw that we pretty much all had that same reaction and this was his response:

We did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it loud and clear.

I finally finished the game earlier today and managed to get the Shepard Deep Breath ending. It was my trial import with a Kaidan new romance. I haven't been lurking as much as I usually do so I apologize for the following question - it may have been answered already.

I unlocked Barrier but not Reave from Kaidan and I think that I took all of the opportunities to talk with him. When should I have received Reave for future reference? My son who finished his PT with a Tali romance didn't get the Defense Drone unlocked. His theory is that the LI doesn't unlock the second ability. I hope that's not correct or I'll never get Reave and it's such a useful power.

On a non-cupcake related note, I just stumbled across a (so far) pretty good fanfic from a new writer. It's the same plot that we've all seen before, but I like her characterization and writing style.
