That fan ending with Liara is beautiful - that sort of thing would work very nicely indeed with a Kaidan in the picture...

Videos are all I got now, still can't play the game, single or multiplayer. EA support is a giant fail, can't believe the crap I've received from their multiple-choice support minions. Reinstall the game, repair the game, clear game cache - I've tried it all, guys, it's YOUR end that's at fault here. GRR!

And to top it off, I started replaying ME1 last night and my PC crashed - first time that's ever happened during ME1 :( really not a good way to spend a weekend.

But on the subject of Udina, I always loved that bit in ME1 where Kaidan gets all angry and shouts "You bastard, you're selling us out!" - that Kaidan gets to be made a Spectre by Udina, then gets to shoot him (in my playthroughs he always does) it's a nice story arc from the Lt. by Shep's side to the self-confident Spectre.

I thought the point of the 'Weelkes leak' was that it was both Casey and Mac who wrote the endings. Mac is a professional writer, of course. Which, IMO, makes it more astonishing that not only is the ending(s) so bad but that they used both deus ex machina (literally) and, as I will not tire of saying, such a TIRED OLD TROPE as an all-knowledgeable space child. I mean, it's not like that has been done to death before FCOL. (/extreme sarcasm)

On another note, does anyone remember Udina ever screaming his catchphrase at all in ME3?

I don't think he does....wish he did, just before Kaidan/Shepard shoots him

I must have read the article too fast, you're right...the lead and Casey it says.
Then it really doesn't make any sense...Walters should know better.

Not really. There are plenty of "professional" writers, especially ones who write gaming lit, IMO, who are really pretty craptastic. Walters isn't an anomaly, and if you pay attention he likes to borrow quite heavily from other established sci-fi conventions and series. Usually, he's pretty good at masking it enough that it looks more like an homage or clever nod, but if this is true (the article), then it may be that he's really not all that good himself, but it's more likely that it's his support staff and editors that are the ones making him polish most of the blatantness out of his borrowing.

Yeah it's both of them, i still think Hudson had more say though... but more shame on Mac for either coming up with it or following along.... talk about integrity as a writer....bah

Endings are hard to do - I've even written stories backward before now (starting with the ending).  I'm guessing, once they decided to not do the 'obvious' then they left themselves with a bit of a problem.  Writers, especially writers aiming to be primarily entertaining, really should avoid the philosophical unless they are really, really good.  Bioware are good but generally not that good.

I know the topic of the lip scar was a few pages back, but I had to add some ME2 perspective to the batch:

Oh thats interesting ( i always destroy the base) i wonder what the exact format is for that scene then, not that i want to shoot kaidan! No no no!

Here's what Patrick Weeks said about variables in this scene (on Penny-Arcade forums):

forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/comment/22452007#Comment_22452007

If you did everything right with them, you don't need to make a Persuade -- they step down and side with you.

If you messed up a few things (cheated on them, took angry dialog options), you need to make a Persuade to not have to shoot them.

If you messed up a LOT (cheated and lied about it), you need to make a really hard Persuade to not have to shoot them.

If you messed up a TON (for example, cheated, lied, Thane/Kirrahe aren't there to save the Councilor, and Udina pulls up a vid that frames you for killing said Councilor), then you have no way to avoid having to shoot them.

Also, someone just posted this: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/11204168#11205142

Got bored and looked through the final hours scene, it uses ash.

Romance me1 +2
Cheat me2 -1
Save council +1
Council dies -1
Renegade mars -1
Paragon mars +1
1st hospital visit +2
2nd visit +1
Thane/kirrahe both dead -2
Squaddies lowering weapons is a factor, no number though.

EDIT: over half dozen variations according to app. I assume that includes whether you/vs shoot undina, or you/squad shoot vs.

and second version, tad different: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/11204168#11205315

According to the Final Hours App, at least for Ashley:

Romanced them in ME1 +2
Cheated on them -1
Council lived +1 | Council died -1
Kind on Mars +1 | Not Kind on Mars -1
Visit in hospital +2
Vist in hospital a second time +1
Weren't understanding when they confronted you about cheating -1
Neither Thane or Kirrahe are alive -2

Whether you told your crew to lower their weapons or not during the confrontation also affects it, but not sure by how much.

I think Kaidans better looking than that other guy. I read somewhere that Bioware sometimes base their characters appearance on random people they've seen in the street. Man, it would be so cool to randomly discover someones used your face for a character in a Bioware game.

It actually makes me wonder if they secretly people watch at places like PAX for inspiration lol.

Yeah, Jeff Zalzali doesn't look like an *exact* face model for Kaidan. I used to see it a lot more but now I'm not so sure that they used him at all. Especially in that picture -- they look very different.

They scan faces, so the person who provided Kaidan's face is obviously aware of it and had to agree to come into studio to have the scan. However, it may have been quick one-time lil contract and it was the last they saw him. It could've even been a random person from the street they liked visually and offered a quick-deal, got the scan and goodbye. Valve said they did that a couple of times with their characters.

It must be really flattering for that to happen to someone! I also heard a rumour that Kaidan face was based on Casey Hudson originally.

I'm also betting that they probably have a catalog of faces they've scanned for potantial characters rather than just going out and saying "Today I need an X." That way, the person whose been scanned can't just run around saying, "I'm so and so."

Lol I'm hoping it's not true. Personally I think the new Kaidan's face looks a hell of a lot like my ex, scarily so. Which does prove problematic for me at times, since my ex was a complete arse hole... beautiful to look at though LOL.
