Personally, I might recommend Carth's "I love you" bit instead.  Doesn't contain the same "creepy as hell obsessive murderer" factor.

I have yet to play KotOR.

It's a good game, a must if you're a Star Wars fan.  Great characters - Carth, HK47, Jolee, Bastila, Malak.  It's also fun to see some of the VAs in both.

He's being modest. KOTOR is the single best WRPG ever created. It's expansive to the point where, even today, I, who played through KOTOR at least 15 times, am still seeing new stuff that I missed on Youtube. Complex. Daring. Twisting. Nothing short of miraculous.

In fact, it was so good, that it essentially eclipsed Attack of the Clones in praise -- which caused Lucas to take an interest in video games...which is unfortunately why all SW games now suck. Games like JK JO, Republican Commando, and KOTOR II were too "morally grey" for Lucas -- who saw SW strictly as a kids thing. He okays everything at Lucas Arts -- if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know how much involvement he had in overlooking TOR, but I hope it was very little.

I kind of have to agree here.  I played this game over and over and over as a teenager, and I never got sick of it.  The story was so well written and all the characters were so believable and memorable.  It wasn't until DA:O that I felt another game had fully captured that same kind of magic.  But KotOR has Carth/Kaidan and Bastilla/FemShep, so it might beat out DA:O for nostalgia factor (when playing ME).  Plus it was one of the first games to have a major character who was openly gay (Juhani).

I actually had played KOTOR before Mass Effect years ago and couldn't beat it for some reason. Came back to it few months ago and instantly went "That's not funny, Bioware!" during the scene with my character waking up with Carth standing over her -- reminiscent of the scene during Mass Effect where Shepard wakes up from having been brain scrambled by the Protean Beacon and of course Kaidan's there XD

This video dedicated to the men of Bioware. For sh**s and giggles.

Aww now this made me remember good old Sky from Jade Empire.  He was super sexy and shy!

Well, watching paint dry would be more praiseworthy than watching When Clones Attack.  =]

Heh, we could definitely have an interesting discussion about Lucas and SW.  Personally, I'd like to see Drew Karpyshyn as the spiritual successor to Lucas.  He's writing parts of TOR, he wrote the Darth Bane books, so there's hope.  As for Lucas' involvement...:? how much of TOR will be Canon probably is the deciding factor.

If it wasn't for KOTOR I would never have picked up ME.  And, to be completely honest, I was on the fence a long time before playing it (computer upgrades, oy!), and youtubed part of a playthough.  Let's just say the game sold itself at "You're paranoid."  :P

BTW, made some statistics, number of pages devoted to official character threads in ME2 forums:
Tali - 11751
Kaidan - 3041
Miranda - 2674
Garrus - 2542
Kaidan - 3041
Liara - 2477
Ashley - 1945
Jack - 818
Samara - 545
Thane - 506
Jacob - 202
Legion - 159
Kasumi - 84
Zaeed - 44
Mordin - 29
Grunt - 17
Morinth - 14

Kaidan's #2. Here in ME3 he's #3. Can someone explain to me where did that untrue opinion that he's not much loved came from? Like seriously :(

Do these polls mean anything? I don't think we'll ever convince Casey Hudson that Kaidan is beloved. :crying:

What you did there, we see it! :D  He's so darn smexy you have to do a double-take.

Well, either their metrics are skewed, or the squeaky wheel wants to get greased.  Not that we would ever suggest Kaidan getting greased.  No, not at all, not us.

Seriously though, there are some people that prefer to use another character as the pedestal upon which to place their favorite.  They can't or won't understand that you don't need to crush another's preference to boost your own.  Instead of being nuanced or making a case and supporting with evidence, they can go on the attack - this unbalances the opposition, since they're now on the defensive, and can be called out for being defensive.  It's a tactic well-played in the US political climate by the less-than-smart-yet-quite-savvy.

Part of it may also be because Kaidan is depicted as a normal, balanced human male.  Being understated and subtle can be lost in a cacophony of big personalities; it will certainly be misinterpreted.

I think maybe the Kaidan fans are a bit more dedicated/vocal about loving kaidan. So that's why we post more. We just can't get enough of him!

I said no because I figured she meant the "I love her" part.
Disregard all the rest of what he said. :P

Yep, that's what I did. Skipped right to this part:

"I love her. And I will do anything possible to try and save her."

Placing that line in the context of ME3, where Shepard's possibly placed in a situation where s/he's at an extreme disadvantage or some other similar scene you can think of, it's really quite romantic. <3

That was a VERY nice read. I really like how you integrated that "sign up for the dream" conversation into the Kaidan scene; it's very effective. Can't wait for you to finish! :D

That said, I'm a bit of a sucker for tragic/heroic endings but I hope there's an alternative to this, possibly one with most of the crew still alive for imminent spillage of drinks on the Citadel. Or at least keeping Kaidan alive; it'd be absolutely heartbreaking if he doesn't make it. :crying:

Agreed, great read. Though I prefer the alternate page for 03. ^_^ But I'm now watching you!

I don't know if I could forgive Bioware for killing him. But I am also a sucker for tragedy. Sigh.

*shrug*  I don't really care how popular he is, to be honest.  I still love him.  And I will continue to love him until my harddisk breaks.  And then I'll install ME1 on a new harddisk and love him some more.  ^_^

just popping in to say that forum votes are not representative of player base as a whole. when bioware gives popularity numbers, they are talking based on actual game information, cerberus network updates etc. since this does in fact record who romanced whom, saved whom on virmire and whether they stayed loyal or moved on? I tend to trust bioware's info. its more complete. Kaidan has a very loyal, vocal if smaller following. but overall - he is not nearly as popular as most other characters. it doesn't make his character less in some way.

hell - Tali's following fan following is possibly the most vocal out there. you'd think she was the most popular character ever in ME games, and yet... when you look at the actual numbers? she's closer to the middle in character popularity, both as romance and squadmate.
