If you rewrite the heretics, you lose more of the quarians, but you gain a lot more from the Geth (basically, it evens out the EMS) and it makes it easier to get the best ending for the Geth/Quarians possible. Just sayin'.
Legion said more geth joined the reapers if you choose rewrite though. He pretty much came out and said destroying them was better. He said destroying the heretics made it harder to side with the reapers, like the geth respected that more. I've always just seen it as the better option. And you do get the same war assets just flipped anyway.
In order to save both the Geth and the Quarians, you have to meet a certain number of points. Rewriting the Heretics in two actually adds towards that goal, while destroying them makes it harder to reach that goal. The reasoning is that even though more Geth turned towards the Reapers for survival when the Quarians attacked, it also means more Geth are willing to consider peace when the Quarians stand down - and more Geth would be susceptable to Legion's upgrade. By rewriting the Heretics, you actually increased their free will - so it was actually the better option. The only reason it was 'bad' is because it meant that there were more free-willed Geth to turn to the Reapers when they were threatened.

Is it sad that I would have picked the Geth over the Quarians...?
Lucky me, I got them to make peace.

But I was on the phone to EA as soon as it happened and I was pretty upset only having had my game up and running for two days after having had it fixed before it seemingly broke again! Thank goodness it's all ok.
On the upside I did enjoy a bit more ME1 during my lunch break.

Actually it is the reverse, if you rewrite the heretics in 2, you lose 2 points (ie you get 0 pts) toward peace, however, if you destroyed the heretics you get +2 to peace. If you destroyed them in 2 you have the ability to get 7/5 needed for peace, if you rewrote them in 2 you can only get 5/5 needed toward peace, so you have to make sure you do Rannoch/Quarian/Geth mission prior to the Reaper Base. Though I don't understand it entirely, as you have to do the Geth Fighter base no matter what and you have to save Admiral Korris ? no matter what as without them peace is impossible. Which that right there is 3 points, and the rest of the missions give you the other two points so unless you just aren't going to go for peace, it's really not that hard to get (except maybe without the two extra points, you might need a higher rep score to be able to talk the Quarians down).Ainyan42 wrote...

I actually read the exact opposite in an FAQ:blink:
Rewriting the heretics was seen as worse to the geth so more joined the reapers. Legion says if you destroy the geth it was harder for them to choose this.
Here's what the FAQ says. You need 5 points and 4 reputation bars to get peace.
2 Points - Destroy the Heretic Geth in "A House Divided" in Mass Effect 2
2 Points - Save Tali from exile in Mass Effect 2
1 Point - Broker peace between Legion and Tali in Mass Effect 2
1 Point - Complete "Rannoch: Admiral Koris"
1 Point - Save Admiral Koris during "Rannoch: Admiral Koris"
I've always thought Kaidan would choose to destroy the heretics. So that also factored into my conclusion. In ME3 he doesn't seem to trust the geth even.
Maybe I'll lose tali or Legion's loyalty in 2 and see if that changes things. That'll make me one point short if I destroy the heretics. I can't leave Koris behind

I guess it would depend on how you went about losing their loyalty, if you did both missions, then didn't settle the fight between them, you would still be at 6 points, and if you didn't do one of their loyalty missions, and settled the fight between them then you would be sitting at 5 points - which is what you need to broker peace.
