Haha. Oh my god I have been playing way too much MP lately. Now that they put up the MP manifest, I just want to unlock *everything.* It's bad.

Ugh, I just realized the commendation objective for the weekend is to survive on Gold. I can barely get extracted on silver and I always come in last on points. I think I made it through 1 wave of gold once.

I never used to play silver because i thought i would SUCK... turns out... I'm pretty awesome on silver... very bad on gold  i use a AJ and i kick some major biotic pancakes. i rarely die (actually depends on map LOL)

Edit: still looking for Turian Sentinal? buy veteran packs, i got 2 cards in a week

Watching my friend play right now, she's actually doing better than I thought! Gameplay wise, anyways. She's finishing up Eden Prime, playing an Earthborn War Hero Infiltrator Renegade FemShep named... Derpy Shepard. She had fun with the character creator, and made some sort of redhead/gothic/owl hybrid. I'm pretty sure I don't have to worry about sharing Kaidan anymore!

A few minutes ago, she tried out her sniper for the first time. When she pulled the trigger on the controller, the rifle zoomed in to reveal a very nice shot of Kaidan's butt. Smart gun!

Awesome, would try to do that this weekend  (too much adrenaline from watching soccer matches for the past week so I haven't been able to get my own work done right this week...)

This this this this. I cannot express how much I hate Shepard's idiotic writing during that scene. I don't blame Kaidan's response; it's understandable, even if I don't like being yelled at.  What I can't understand is Shepard's non-chalance. It was the email afterwards that hurt more, really, because it was so non-committal, which again, understandable, but again, leaves you with absolutely no recourse. So frustrating, I wanted to just slap her.

 

Shepard totally bugged me in that scene... I was like lol what the heck are you doing?!

"Oh haiz there Kaidan, I just came back from the dead after two years and now I'm working with the Black Ops group that killed 50 people from my unit back on Akuze."

... *facepalm*

But the way Kaidan/Ashley actually reacts in that scene totally makes sense. There was another thread that try to rationalize why the VS reacts in this scene... Try to imagine what happen if the person you left behind to die at Virmire suddenly appear in front of you after two years and is now working with Cerberus... And all they can say is "oh haiz there"... Hell yeah I would be surpried, hurt and angry.

Most people got angry that Kaidan/Ash abandons Shepard (oohhh look at Team Dextro's unwavering loyalty). I kinda wish they have a version of the apology letter even for an unromanced Shep... would definitely add more dimension to the VS' character. And would definitely love for the game to give the option to reply back (even a Spacer Shep didn't even reply back to mom's email... uhh). No wonder the majority that didn't really get to know Kaidan in ME1 or only started from ME2 don't like him at all... The game didn't do a very good job of handling how subtly yet brilliant Kaidan's arc is...

My good friend's boyfriend started playing from ME3 and he actually picks Kaidan as his VS (at first because my friend saw me play ME3 and she says Kaidan is handsome so she wants her bf to pick him in his game) and he said he's a pretty cool guy/character. ME3 is a good place to "get to know" Kaidan but many people don't even have that chance (i.e: killed him way back in ME or pick a Male Shepard in ME2 or heck even picking the guy not the girl as the combat loss in ME3)... I love Ash too and I hate Virmire with a passion but I just find it hard not to have Kaidan in my game... he's just that good of a character...

The one time my Sniper Rifle actually zoomed to a squaddie's parts... I got a shot of Garrus' hip ... The funny thing was Garrus was also using his Sniper Rifle... and he was standing right behind Kaidan...

yay...caught up again... i'll be in mp some this weekend will attempt gold with who ever wishes... i think i've been it once or twice... the desire just hasn't been there to toture or stress myself out lol.

i'll also try to add some to the thank you letter and luvs the "marry me shepard"

Excellent, I'll be on the MP too, I've not even tried a gold match yet, but I have balanced out all my MP characters so they're all over level 10 now. My Krogan Soldier is a 19, but I decided that the best way to play him is to be on an all-Krogan team, because a herd of Krogans stampeding and all meleeing around the map is hilarious to listen to. If I do gold, it'll be with my infiltrator - disarm bombs while cloaked and revive teammates, oh and run run fleeeeeee while cloaked when things go pear-shaped.

I had a thought the other day, relating to Kaidan-hate...

I should preface this by saying that I came to Bioware late, with DAO and then went back and did Mass Effect 1/2 and then KOTOR only just last year, so my perspective will be skewed towards the more recent titles... But across all of the games I've played, there is one constant that I see cropping up all the time specifically in relation to male support characters.

Whiny.

OH how I've come to hate this word.

It seems that any male character that a) attempts to open up about his past in a meaningful way or offers a contrary opinion that doesn't just blindly agree with the player is slapped with this most generic, insipid of labels. Whiney. Whiner.

Kaidan is a whiner because he tells you about Rahna and Jump Zero, and uses it as a cautionary tale to try to steer you down the noble path. What an unmitigated monster.

Alistair is a whiner because he tells you about being a bastard and the toll that's taken on his personality, and because, god forbid, he's upset about losing all of his friends and father figure in the first hour of the game. I mean my god, Alistair, can't you just grieve in silence, gawd!

Carth is a whiner because he expresses concern about your choices, and tells you about his dead wife. I mean really, just shut up and shoot things, Carth!

Fenris, whiner because of slave past. As if it was that traumatic; stop whining! 

Anders, possibly the grandaddy of all Bioware "whiners"; gets extra points for also being a terrorist. This one really gets my goat because, in my opinion, Anders is one of the most facinating, deep, and complex characters I've ever seen in a video game. But he's sidled with so many shallow complaints -- he doesn't jokes anymore, he whines about mages, I didn't know the heart icon was a flirtatious choice and now he wants to bone me, etc. 


It's sad to me that so many people are so willing to dismiss what are a bunch of really great characters so off-handedly, because they don't want to take the time to listen to/understand their motivations. I guess for me I just don't see the point in playing a Bioware game where there's so much emphasis on story and characters if you're not going to even try to engage with it; there are plenty of shallow alternatives out there.


I wonder if some of it isn't just a reflection of the male-dominated gaming base. Another dude, digital or no, expressing themselves with words that don't amount to "I like guns and stuff! -- Garrus" (and I love Garrus) makes them go the big rubbery one.


Anyways... end whine rant.

Still watching my friend play, she's running around the Citadel (we all know what that's like...) and during one of her wrong turn endeavors, she ended up walking through a door into an elevator. Literally, through. After the elevator refused to move, she left again by walking through the wall. Garrus teleported next to her suddenly, and Kaidan, instead, started jogging backwards through the wall.
