I've been thinking of possible choices that will affect the way VS treats our Sheps in ME3... Hmmm... The New Yorker article says both ME1 & ME2 choices will influence that... But it kind of doesn't make sense to me, regarding ME2 choice(s). The obvious choice from ME1 influencing the different behavior would be romanced/un-romanced VS. Romanced VS kind of apologizes to Shep in the email, so it's a different situation than in case of Shep that didn't romance VS. No-romance Shep's interaction with VS ends on Horizon exchange. And here's the issue. Romanced VS sends the same, kind of 'sorry' email to Shep no matter what Shep says to him/her on Horizon. So why would there be any difference in the way VS treats Shep in ME3? Romanced VS sees the current post-Horizon situation/relationship with Shep the same way no matter what Shep said on Horizon. So in that case, why would un-romanced VS see the the relations with Shep differently depending on what Shep said on Horizon? Doesn't it mean that the only choice that will influence the behavior of VS will be whether we romanced him/her or not? Or am I missing something? Help! ;P

Maybe it's not just a matter of the romance. I figure the romance just helps our Shepards talk to LI in a different manner, much in the manner that doing a certain mission helped you talk Wrex down. And I am sure that Ash/Kaidan has been hearing about our exploits across ME2. There is also the trial to consider. If we meet them afterwords, I bet Shepard has his/her list of "crimes" read to them so everyone knows what's happened. Or being a Spectre now, what kind of intelligence have they gathered about Shep? Have the databases on the Normandy been raided? What about Admiral Hackett's report from Arrival?

I am sorry if I'm rambling, but I just mean to say that it's most likely that our LIs know about most of what we've been doing. So don't worry, at least about what choices are being considered.;)

My question would be what happens if you made Kaidan a Renegade?

Being absolutely honest, I ain't so sure if BW will ackowledge that at all, since they didn't on Horizon, with the entire Cerberus/humanity discussion  And they should've. So IDK... It's yet another variable and we know how they like to melt different variables/choices into one sometimes. Especially the less important ones. Even if they ackowledge renegading Kaidan, I won't be surprised if it will be explained that Kaidan "reverted" back to his old views in 2 years when Shep was gone lol

Now you're giving me flashbacks of what they did to Garrus. I might have to agree with you about renegade Kaidan.

Edit: Found this don't know if it's ever been posted.

Well, that kind of makes sense to me. If Shepard "Renegaded" Kaidan and saved the Council, Kaidan would realize that he was "right all along" and disregard the xenophobic things that Shepard said. But even if Shepard "Renegaded" Kaidan and sacrificed the Council, Shepard soon after died, and left Kaidan alone to explain Shepard's actions to a galaxy embittered against humanity. I can easily see Kaidan "reverting" to his more "Paragon" attidude without Shepard's influence. Yes, Shepard was a huge, defining factor for Kaidan, but after everything he grew up with and the hard lesson he learn with Vyrrnus, I don't think that even the memory of Shepard could keep Kaidan on the Renegade path.

If they're going to factor in the conversation with Kelly and Joker post Horizon, that worries me because I had Shepard lie to Joker about "Oh, it went okay!" (I chose "it went badly" later but didn't like the wording on that dialog.)

Yeah, exactly. The talk with Kelly and Joker might not be a very accurate basis for Shepard's feelings post-Horizon as you can roleplay her masking her true feelings. But... it would make sense. Kelly/Joker telling Kaidan about what Shepard said post-Horizon and getting confronted about it in ME3? Could work.

Copy pasta from my previous post as I think I may have edited it too late:

There was a part in the article regarding this that I found very curious:

... ... Shepard, however, is forced to save one character and sacrifice the other, and, in Mass Effect 2, whichever of the two was saved reappears to remonstrate with him or her. The result of that conversation, which can play out in various ways, determines how the character of A/K will interact with Shepard in ME3. ... ...

This makes me wonder now if the dialogue choices we pick on Horizon has a heavier impact in ME3 than we originally thought, or if it simply means that Kaidan will react different if you romanced him or otherwise.

Well assuming that Kelly survived, maybe the dialog with her will matter in ME3.However if she died...well that leaves Joker..and the Horizon event. So I do believe that Horizon will have a major impact on the dialog between Shep/VS.

But still we shouldn't forget that even in ME3 it might be possible that depending on our choices, the VS might interact differently. It was said in an article/somewhere/ that the problem between the Shep/VS will be resolved near the end of the events in ME3..so guys we have a loooong way until there/many many conversations, which can affect the game and LIs differently/

on a side note:
did anyone ever wonder what would have happened during the locker scene, if Kaidan reached out to Shepard, but instead of pulling Shep up, Shep shifted weight to drag Kaidan down?
S: I told you: on the floor and give me twenty.
K: *tsktsk* Shepard, sounds like abusing your command here.
S: Won't you try to bribe me with one kiss instead?
K: You're something else, you know ...
J: Sorry to interrupt commander
S/K: *kissy sounds*
J: erm, Commander? ... Commander! ... Shepard? Are you there?

Haha, I love this. Joker would have to limp his way to the lockers to find Shep.

I don't remember ME1 very well, isn't mess hall situated right between stairs and lockers/pods? If so, aren't there couple of nameless NPCs on the watch?

Oh well:pinched:

well in the cutscene we don't get to see the surrounding area and who might be there, but given that fraternisation is agains the rules etc. and they're almost kissing I bet no-one's around at that moment or they wouldn't go that far ...

unless they don't care anymore ... Sovereign about to unleash hell on the galaxy and no one believes you anyway ... might as well risk being kicked out of the military

tweeted him as well, though I think they probably already have everything set up for GamesCom ;) ...
this is like letting people ask Casey something and he just repeats the same phrases, like one of those talking toy bears depending on what paw you press ... I was annoyed after Comic Con, now I just feel pity :(

Well, even if it doesn't do anything immediately, at least it lets them know that there is Kaidan support!

I figured as he's falling towards her he'd whack his head on the lockers, be knocked cold, and Shepard would sit there with an "Oh crap!" look on her face.

He'd wake up in the infirmary a short time later with a HUGE egg on his head and a note pinned to his shirt:  "Come see me in my quarters."  :D

He'd enter, and they'd have the pre-Ilos discussion, with added dialog of "Let me kiss it & make it better."  :kissing:

And Kaidan would respond, breathlessly, "Not right now Shepard, I have a headache."  :pinched:
