Liara wears some pink armour (I can't remember which and it's rare case I haven't got screenshot about).
They all wear the Phoenix like armor at the start of ME2 - Kaidan, Ashley, and Liara. It makes little sense to not differentiate among the three, but then the VSes weren't the focus of ME2. Might also have been easier for the devs to program.

Liara is wearing light Hoplite armor at the beginning of ME2, while Ashley and Kaidan are both wearing the Phoenix armor.
Why does Liara get her own armor, while Kaidan has to wear the male equivalent of Ashley's signature armor? HMM.

It seems that the only plausible explanation is that they wanted to use the Alliance concept art armor (which is phoenix, though less pink than how it looks in-game) or they just didn't care to make Kaidan's armor unique. Probably the latter. Why does Liara get her own armor, while Kaidan has to wear the male equivalent of Ashley's signature armor? HMM.

The ever infamous "Oh, Kaidan doesn't get a lot of love anyway, nobody will notice if we put him in Ashley's pink armor" maybe? <_<
Is it March yet? I'm very Kaidan deprived! Might have to go back and play NG+ on ME1 and get that level 60 achievement... has nothing to do with romancing Kaidan for the 5th time, nope.

I still can't understand what this pink male Phoenix model is doing in game - if it would be used also on Horizon, the answer might be "didn't care to make armour unique", but this pink nonsense was used just for one scene where it was quaranteed to cause hysterical laughter! Why don't just slap Horizon armour instead?Collider wrote...

About Horizon armour itself - I've seen some bystander lady in female version of that on Thane's LM, and the only armoured guy o Normandy SR2 (which stood near deactivated Legion) looks like he wears recolour. New Alliance signature armour?

I don't mind the color at all, personally, it's more about putting him in Ashley's signature armor, when Liara gets her own, in that scene, that annoys me. If it wasn't a big deal to put different armor on Liara, it should not have been a problem putting default Onyx, or anything else, on Kaidan.
It's totally minor, but, much like not having him use biotics on Horizon during the cutscene, it's the principle of the thing. We have no reason to believe that Kaidan was more than an afterthought during the making of ME2 when stuff like that gets overlooked.

Yeah, I agree. Also, Shep was in his/her original armor, right? So why couldn't they have just kept Kaidan in his? Sigh. I was never a big fan of the Phonenix armor anyway. I would purposely put less effective armor on my team just so they would look better. Because when you're saving the galaxy, all that matters is looking good.

I hated it even before Kaidan showed up in it. It's useless against tech/biotics and the shields are mediocre. And I've never been a fan of pink.

Real Men Wear Pink
I don't have a problem with men wearing pink, it's just that Liara got her own armor, and phoenix armor is Ashley's default armor, so why couldn't Kaidan have been wearing Onyx armor or something?

erm ... wouldn't the guy standing by when you activate Legion be with Cerberus?
I hope they have standard Alliance armor in ME3 and perhaps some minor variations depending on tasks or environments
there aren't that many incidents where we see someone working for the Alliance in armor in ME1, but it looks like they always wear different armor, e.g. the guys from the Normandy carrying the bomb, Kahoku's men or the peeps defending the outpost that gets overrun by rachni

Since most of my BF's shirts are pink, I'll be the last to complain about guys wearing something pink. But at my first playthrough when I was totally shocked by Normandy blowing up the view of Kaidan running not only in one of the most impractically-coloured armour, but also in Ashley signature one, was a real mood breaker.IsaacShep wrote...

That's not a problem with pink colour, that's a problem of any bright coloured armour - pure white, golden and any other vibrant coloured ones always looked impractical for me. To tell the truth, half an hour later I found out what some party members wear in combat, so "Kaidan in Phoenix" impression worn off a bit.
Edit:
Call me paranoid, but sometimes I lose track where Alliance ends and Cerberus starts (black default casual outfit vs. ME1 casual outfit, video in LotSB about Anderson talking with someone, building the Normandy, Jacob's past ties...) - for me, the connection between these two is far deeper than Alliance wants to admit. So Cerberus soldier wearing recoloured Alliance armour looks normal for me.erm ... wouldn't the guy standing by when you activate Legion be with Cerberus? Isn't that what pink is? A really light red?
I'm sure Kaidan can make pink look extra sexy, but I prefer him in darker colors.

Pink is really light some shades of purple, as for me. Watered down red looks strange.Chylise wrote...

And yes, darker colours. Especially blue. Especially Alliance blues. Eh, a girl can dream:wub:

Pink is associated (not that I agree with this association, because I don't) with feminity. I also suspect this is why Ashley's trademark armor is pink. So she looks more "feminine." I could be wrong of course, but it's really hard to believe that Bioware would overlook the stigma for and against the color pink. How culture perceives pink is not an elusive bit of information. Not to mention, pink is clearly not a good color for armor in general.IsaacShep wrote...

The problem overall has less to do with Kaidan wearing pink (culturally that is, tactically is a problem) so much as him wearing Ashley's signature armor - especially when has his own armor on Horizon. It seems to imply some laziness or oversight on the part of the developers, which is especially annoying for Kaidan since he tends to get overshadowed by Ashley in general.

The association of pink color with feminity is a product of post WWII pop culture. Before that, pink was a male color and blue was the female one. Then it reversed. It ain't any "core" culture view. BioWare might have easily considered that it wouldn't be any kind of an issue 200 years into future.Collider wrote...

But it's unrealistic to expect that they aren't also taking into consideration contemporary society when making the game.

Perhaps. Or maybe they actually wanted it this way to counter stereotypes? "Look! Here's a bad ass soldier wearing pink! It didn't make him any less masculine!". You never know.Collider wrote...

Isaac is right, until 1940 pink was considered more appropriate for boys because it being related to red as it
was the more decided and masculine color than blue, while blue was considered
more appropriate for girls because it was the more dainty and delicate color than red.
