I wanted to share this. My main FemShep is a Garrusmancer and I went through ME1 without romancing anyone, went straight to Garrus. Thought I was doing pretty good until I decided to sacrifice Ashley instead and was pleasantly suprised at Kaidan. He started to grow on me.
He was so very sweet and courteous, and it was clear that he didn't have that rough edge about him when it came to confronting Shepard about Cerberus. Very respectful, but still handled the issue really well.
I didn't think my FemShep could romance him so late in the triology, until she got two emails from the boys...and I decided to take her on the Presidium first...and then he started to talk about how he felt about my FemShep.
Basically what happened to me on my Garrusmancer Shepard, I had the stupidity to meet Kaidan first (in all my anxiousness to see how his friendship dialogues play out)...
Ended up having to reject him... and it makes me feel pretty bad... So I went on to reload save and locked in Garrus' romance first. Got to say though even his friendship dialogue in this scene is really good too.

That's craziness. I take it meeting with the Quarians doesn't count for the timer on the bomb then?
The bomb's timer doesn't start until you finish Platoon mission. And as it turns out, you absolutely CAN start the platoon mission after the coup, even as late as Thessia (maybe even later but nobody tested yet). We were all mislead by ME Wiki and other conflicting sources saying that Platoon mission must be done before the Coup but it's not true. You can totally do the Rachni mission to unlock "Tuchanka: Priority" and save the entire Platoon -> Bomb arc for after the coup when you have Kaidan and Tali
I can confirm this (Turian Platoon doesn't expire upon starting the Coup), found this out when I purposely tried to see what happen if I don't rescue Tarquin before Tuchanka/Coup... and the quest is still there and Eve is still fine and well. I think all you have to do is to avoid the Turian Platoon quest and do the Rachni quest to unlock the Coup. The Bomb quest timer is 3 missions after Turian Platoon, so you're safe as long as you don't start the quest.
Not sure whether the Tali-Kaidan dialogue after the quest is there... I assume you need to complete Priority: Rannoch before Tali joins you *permanently* and unlocking the potential for Normandy squaddies dialogue. And do Turian Platoon -> Bomb before Thessia? Surprised that practically almost nobody tested this out before, and only Weekes' Tweet made everybody test this. I guess the wiki is wrong about this quest then.
