If "yes", why are we even doing this?

Unless the Catalyst is what remains of the Creators - creators stored in Catalyst form. Here's the problem. We have to make completly blind guesses and rip the game's files for answer. If it wasn't for leaked scripts, we wouldn't even know that the entire thing is actually about technological singularity. They removed the direct naming of it from the final version and replaced it with vague "created will rebel against the creators". I get why Mac Walters said "people don't need to know everything" but in this case, we actually do. It's essential to understand the Reapers, the Catalyst, why are they doing what they're doing and why are they believing in it and make an informed choice based on that. Not blind guesses.

I've wondered that too. I think it's quite possible. Sadly, as you said,
it wasn't deemed necessary for us to know. I think more than likely the
catalyst would have replied, "It doesn't matter"

I would have been ok not knowing the full story behind the Reapers if it hadn't been for the Catalyst. The Reapers were frightening partly because they were unknowable, it added to their image. But then they introduce the Catalyst with his bullsh*t reasoning and it totally negates what made the Reapers such a good enemy.

Unfortunately :/ But it does matter. If they're going with a concept this complex AND they introduce it at the very last minutes of the franchise, then it just has to be darn well motivated. If the Reapers were just "lul we're evil and wanna rule the world, deal!", then their originis indeed wouldn't really matter. But that's not the case

Right?  It sort of just made them pawns in the story.  Definitely a let down.

If you're going to make them pawns, you can't just relegate them to being pawns of this unknowable god like creature.  Someone created the Catalyst.  Was it synthetics or organics? If they were going to tarnish the mystique of the Reapers, I feel like they should have provided more narrative context to the Catalyst to at least make it make sense.  Instead of providing answers (which I think was the intention--by letting us know the "origins" of the Reapers) they just left me with more questions.  Definitely something you shouldn't do at the END of a series.

"You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it." the bit they cut out of that dialogue was, "Unless you choose the green or blue option because then we can be BFFs forever once you've talked to our little boss ghost."

And this is why I will always pick Destroy. Geth and EDI be damned.

Screw those guys. The Writers Reapers, that is.

Don't even get me STARTED on the ending - I finished another playthrough night before last, only because I wanted to do NewGamePlus, and argh, the rage just flared right back up...

But that's okay, because a new chapter is up: If It Meant Living-55: Encounters / Alt. DA Link.  It's long, and there is a lot going on in this chapter, but among several other relevant matters, near the end Kaidan and Thane meet for the first time and have quite the interesting conversation :innocent:.  Hope you enjoy!

An awesome new piece by Subetak:

Very true. Sometimes I wonder if the writers just didn't have an answer themselves.

I don't know whether I'm happy or sad that I don't really care about the EC anymore. Headcanons, I love you!

I would say "Happy Friday", but, seeing as I'm on the west coast, we're pretty much the last of the timezones and therefore the slowest to start the day. And we miss most of the fun morning stuff /lesigh.
Although, I suppose Alaska and Hawaii have it worse.

So, Happy mid-afternoon Friday to the rest of the world!

Amen to that! Sheesh this has been the longest week in the history of the universe. I just want to get home and hang out with Shepard and Kaidan for the rest of the night. Not to say that's not what I've been doing most of the day at work...

West coast here, too. What a slow morning today is.

Anyway, I don't really care about EC's content. I only care  that it's free.

And I don't think the writers have an answer to the Reaper question either because they have so many fans to appease with that question. So ... they just couldn't come up with one satisfying, I guess?

I really don't care anymore. I'm looking forward to summer break after the finals so that I can play the Witcher and Assassin's creed.

This is going to be a bit abstract.

I'm a big fan of Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy blog. Apart from being fairly witty (if in a geeky science way) it's also super informative and he regularly posts AMAZING space pictures and timelapse videos. This morning he posted this gorgeous image of two galaxies spinning into one another and the beauty of it just struck me.

Image IPB

A hundred million light years away, two gorgeous spiral galaxies are locked in an embrace that may end with them merging, a dance spread across a hundred thousand light years in space and a hundred million years of time.

I hereby dub them Shepard and Alenko.

I am right there with you Lady.  At this point from everything they've said, they aren't going to change a bloody thing, they are just going to 'clarify' it.  I don't need clarification, I need something that makes sense in the bloody game... /sigh... OK rant off... sorry /sigh

You know, I do admire that they're making it, though. They saw nothing wrong with the ending (apparently), yet they're doing it, for free, to appease the fans. And they're putting effort in to it, too. It's a worthy compromise, but at the same time I refuse to accept anything less than my happy headcanon ending.
