Thanks, that's pretty interesting.
I'm good with death, I'm just not good with death for the sake of death. Let me explain. Say in the example in the article that Kaidan/Ashley is in a hostage situation. One possible outcome is that based on your interactions with them or your decisions during a mission, K/A is killed which result in the futile 'no'
However, if your reactions are different, there should be a way to avoid that death. Maybe there are consequences for that later on, maybe other people get killed because you let this person go to save A/K. That's good storytelling to me. Not just 'Haha, we killed your favorite character! Now you'll go cry! Yay, emotion!'
That's where I feel a lot of people go wrong. They just stick a death in
there because it's such an emotional trigger. But it's hollow and
causes more anger than sadness.
So yeah, you can kill people, you can even kill my favorite character (Ash was my 2nd favorite behind Kaidan), but it better be because Shepard was an ****** or it's a choice between two things. I will be incredibly pissed to the point of returning the game if ME3 decided they were going to kill the VS and there is nothing you can do about it.

Sorry re-quoting because I am 5-days late to this discussion. The way I read it, it seems like A/K could be Ashley/Kaidan holding someone else hostage. I'm thinking perhaps your ME2 LI, if you cheated. Casey did say cheating would have repercussions.
Seems like fabulous, emotional drama to me. If it is cheating related, I look forward to encountering this with my renegon cheater femShep's play through.

unless he's indoctrinated (what I seriously don't hope!) I can't see Kaidan taking another LI hostage either; so far it's just speculation that the VS might be the hostage or in a hostage-like situation or be the one who holds someone at gun-point
did it imply they meant something to Shepard? you know ... personally, or just someone whom he might think needs to stay alive for some reason while someone working for Alliance/as a Spectre might deem they need killing?!

K fans, we GOTTA get some Kaidan questions rolling in tomorrow. Same time, 6:15 pm CET (9:15am PDT, 12:15pm EDT). Tweet your Kaidan questions tomorrow @biofeed (& @masseffect at the same time just to be sure, I ain't 100% which one is correct for the questions).

Heh.
One of my two initial interpretations was, "VS indoctrinated by Reapers, 'let [him/her] go' addressed to Reaper controlling, not Kaidan or Ashley themselves."
Mildly preferable to Vasir-style hostage situation that does no justice to either character.

I know why they are avoiding releasing anything with the VS, but it's getting annoying. Fan Fic is not holding me right now. Because people just HAVE to have lives and can't write a new chapter every day... POO!
Bioware, I need a glimmer of hope that my Femshep will get some Kaidan in her captains quarters... nekkid... dripping... and ready to help her forget her name... I should go.

Because everyone's afraid of Skyrim. My husband says that some games have even been pushed back from late 2011 to early 2012. I would not be surprised if it's because of Skyrim. Every single day I hear about Skyrim, and my husband doesn't want to hear about Kaidan, ever. (Save me...)

I don't think Kaidan's murdering anybody.
Maybe Kaidan is being sent w/ a small unit to make sure Shepard makes it back to earth. He's a Spectre and all now. And things get a lil rough.
It doesn't mean anyone's getting killed.

Or maybe..(just having fun) Shepard is running up to the cockpit because Alliance bogarted their way on board and they're yanking Joker...or somebody around too roughly. Shepard's trying to stop it. Then as she approaches the **** pit she turns around, and emerging from the Alliance pack comes Kaidan; gun drawn and squinty eyed..to arrest her. "No."
There's a chance that the Alliance might not be as nice abt. the whole arrest/turn yourself in thing as Shepard thinks they will.
Or it could be some horrible scene because we screwed up......reload!

I can see it more as someone else taking Kaidan hostage or perhaps someone getting left behind? Ah man, this game is going to be awesome, but emotional.
Luckily I have Skyrim/Batman to keep me busy whilst I also re-play ME1/2 with a non-romance Shep. Hvaing trouble with the sniper rifle though.

Same here. I'm glad ME3 got pushed back only so I can wrap up 3 ME2 play throughs and dedicate a month or two to Skyrim (and DA2, God, I'm so behind!).
The sniper rifle gets better, though! The trick in ME1 is to have Shep crouch while firing. In ME2, the sniper rifle is just badass all around. My canon Shep is vanguard, but I'm really enjoying playing my infiltrator Shep in ME2 right now.
Oh, and keeping it Kaidan related... I cannot wait to see how awesome his sentinel powers are going to be in ME3! The Shep sentinel powers seem pretty badass.

It's my first run as an infiltrator, sniper rifles getting easier but luckily Kaidan and other squadmates' are not dying or anything so they cover my back.
It's going to be hard not to romance Kaidan, how can I reject him without being a meaney? Also trying to decide whether this will be my first Kaidan death at virmire, Ashley never sruvives my games cos I always romance him...but I kinda want him if it's possible for him to be romanced from fresh in ME3, if Joker/Vega aren't. (my infiltrator will also have another save with a ME2) So many decisions!
