Thanks, that's pretty interesting.

I'm good with death, I'm just not good with death for the sake of death. Let me explain. Say in the example in the article that Kaidan/Ashley is in a hostage situation. One possible outcome is that based on your interactions with them or your decisions during a mission, K/A is killed which result in the futile 'no'

However, if your reactions are different, there should be a way to avoid that death. Maybe there are consequences for that later on, maybe other people get killed because you let this person go to save A/K. That's good storytelling to me. Not just 'Haha, we killed your favorite character! Now you'll go cry! Yay, emotion!'

That's where I feel a lot of people go wrong. They just stick a death in
there because it's such an emotional trigger. But it's hollow and
causes more anger than sadness.

You took the words from my brain, and made them make sense.  =]  Yes, death for the sake of tearjerking is, quite honestly, another kind of jerking.  It's cheap melodrama without substance.  It's the exact opposite of something like Virmire - there you had a choice not just as a player, but in RPing, as the leader.

So yeah, you can kill people, you can even kill my favorite character (Ash was my 2nd favorite behind Kaidan), but it better be because Shepard was an ****** or it's a choice between two things. I will be incredibly pissed to the point of returning the game if ME3 decided they were going to kill the VS and there is nothing you can do about it.

The only reason I'm holding out hope is because Casey Hudson said something to the effect of "take care of VS in-game as well as you do on the boards" - it was even posted in this thread a few weeks ago, when someone tweeted the number of pages the combined VSes had.

As for the scene referenced in the article about Hale, maybe it's the VS finding out about Shepard's liason/cheating in ME2?

Heh.

One of my two initial interpretations was, "VS indoctrinated by Reapers, 'let [him/her] go' addressed to Reaper controlling, not Kaidan or Ashley themselves."

Mildly preferable to Vasir-style hostage situation that does no justice to either character.

Sorry re-quoting because I am 5-days late to this discussion. The way I read it, it seems like A/K could be Ashley/Kaidan holding someone else hostage. I'm thinking perhaps your ME2 LI, if you cheated. Casey did say cheating would have repercussions.

Seems like fabulous, emotional drama to me. If it is cheating related, I look forward to encountering this with my renegon cheater femShep's play through.

I'm sorry, didn't see your post. :( Stupid RL interrupting posting.

unless he's indoctrinated (what I seriously don't hope!) I can't see Kaidan taking another LI hostage either; so far it's just speculation that the VS might be the hostage or in a hostage-like situation or be the one who holds someone at gun-point
did it imply they meant something to Shepard? you know ... personally, or just someone whom he might think needs to stay alive for some reason while someone working for Alliance/as a Spectre might deem they need killing?!

Maybe not a hostage situation or murder, maybe more of a fight?  Kaidan may engage in fisticuffs, that may be more likely.  People want to see an Ashley/Miranda catfight, so why not the same for Kaidan/whomever?

FB and twitter both say to tweet your questions to @biofeed, probably because they do DA2 Q&A first and then ME3 Q&A right after, so they don't have to switch feeds. I tweeted to biofeed today and my DA2 question got picked, so it should be a safe bet.

I'm going to be ready with my Kaidan question, for sure! It's not often I tweet anymore!

Yeah this is definitely probable. I don't think it is an "unfaithful" scenario because Hale had to say the line like she was running. It could be "let go" in a figurative since. Say...a certain squad member is left behind and there is no way to go back and save them, but Kaidan wants to...so Shepard says to "let him/her go." Ehhhhh I don't know. It makes more sense in my head, but I don't really think that's the case.
The reporter says that this is a conversation between the VS and Shepard, but if the VS is indoctrinated or being held hostage, then the reporter could have been misinformed or just misspoke.

I know why they are avoiding releasing anything with the VS, but it's getting annoying. Fan Fic is not holding me right now. Because people just HAVE to have lives and can't write a new chapter every day... POO!

Bioware, I need a glimmer of hope that my Femshep will get some Kaidan in her captains quarters... nekkid... dripping... and ready to help her forget her name... I should go.

Because everyone's afraid of Skyrim. :P My husband says that some games have even been pushed back from late 2011 to early 2012. I would not be surprised if it's because of Skyrim. Every single day I hear about Skyrim, and my husband doesn't want to hear about Kaidan, ever. (Save me...)

At least you can hear about a game. I live in a house with non-gamers.:? I guess that's what we have the board for.

I don't think Kaidan's murdering anybody.

Maybe Kaidan is being sent w/ a small unit to make sure Shepard makes it back to earth. He's a Spectre and all now. And things get a lil rough.

It doesn't mean anyone's getting killed.

Or maybe..(just having fun) Shepard is running up to the cockpit because Alliance bogarted their way on board and they're yanking Joker...or somebody around too roughly. Shepard's trying to stop it. Then as she approaches the **** pit she turns around, and emerging from the Alliance pack comes Kaidan; gun drawn and squinty eyed..to arrest her. "No."

There's a chance that the Alliance might not be as nice abt. the whole arrest/turn yourself in thing as Shepard thinks they will.

Or it could be some horrible scene because we screwed up......reload!

Yeah, the quote is not in context of the game's overall story, it's only one side of dialog, isn't Kaidan-speficic (i.e. can be said if Ashley is the VS), and the game is still a half-year away.  We needn't assume the worst.  :)

About "Let her/him go": I don't think it's a question of cheating. Unless game will recognise "transgendered" femShep romancing Ashley as a relationship properly (_A_/K conversation), but even then, do people who went through troubles to romance Ashley as femShep just to cheat on her and repeat this procedure to romance another woman exist? Never heard about that.

Honestly, the only squadmate in both games VS would confront without even listening to Shepard is Legion. Or generic true geth-replacement of dead Legion. Especially if VS is Ashley. But let him/her go? I _can_ pull the explanation "Legion self-defended and somehow grabbed A/K", which even goes well with gender difference, but I'm rather bad with predictions lately.

I think will be a horrible scene....depending on the past of your Shepard, for example: I don't think the ruthless shepards will have a nice trial...that and the fact that maybe you killed the council, and then worked with terrorists (not that you had much choice), killed an entire system to delay the reaper invasion...

Dunno...It will be a blood bath....or maybe not. But I think it will be that way.

I can see it more as someone else taking Kaidan hostage or perhaps someone getting left behind? Ah man, this game is going to be awesome, but emotional.

Luckily I have Skyrim/Batman to keep me busy whilst I also re-play ME1/2 with a non-romance Shep. Hvaing trouble with the sniper rifle though.

Same here. I'm glad ME3 got pushed back only so I can wrap up 3 ME2 play throughs and dedicate a month or two to Skyrim (and DA2, God, I'm so behind!).

The sniper rifle gets better, though! The trick in ME1 is to have Shep crouch while firing. In ME2, the sniper rifle is just badass all around. My canon Shep is vanguard, but I'm really enjoying playing my infiltrator Shep in ME2 right now.

Oh, and keeping it Kaidan related... I cannot wait to see how awesome his sentinel powers are going to be in ME3! The Shep sentinel powers seem pretty badass.

It's my first run as an infiltrator, sniper rifles getting easier but luckily Kaidan and other squadmates' are not dying or anything so they cover my back.

It's going to be hard not to romance Kaidan, how can I reject him without being a meaney? Also trying to decide whether this will be my first Kaidan death at virmire, Ashley never sruvives my games cos I always romance him...but I kinda want him if it's possible for him to be romanced from fresh in ME3, if Joker/Vega aren't. (my infiltrator will also have another save with a ME2) So many decisions!

You shouldn't have to reject Kaidan in ME1 if you don't want to romance him in that play through. Usually (but I think, not always) the middle conversation options will get you friendly with Kaidan while not triggering a romance. Or you can always choose those "I like you, but not right now" romance options. But maybe that technically carries the romance through to the other games. I'm not sure. I never choose those options.

I have abandoned Kaidan on Virmire exactly twice. Once with a femShep that romanced him but went to rescue Ashley because she felt she needed it. (I hated it and this play through did not move on to ME2). The second time was with my one and only maleShep. He romanced Ashley so that she could survive into ME2 and ME3, because I do like her and want to see how her story can play out. It still ripped my heart out to abandon him, though. :crying:

Edit: Ack! Top of page... I don't have access to Kaidan pictures at work. Quick, someone post a Kaidan!
