I posted this in the ME1 boards the other day, but they don't get a lot of traffic. I don't think its very relevant to the General ME3 section, so I thought I'd post it here as well as the Ashley thread.

So I bought the PC version of Mass Effect the other day so that I have something to fart around with on my laptop while I'm away from home. Out of curiosity I started to dig through the game files and found some interesting sound bits in the nor20_virmire_done.isb file. Apparently, at one point they were considering making it possible to save both Kaidan and Ashley on Virmire. Here are the transcripts of the sound files.

Ash: "Thanks Commander. Things got pretty hot down there. You saved my life."
Kaidan: "Both our lives. I don't know how you did it Commander. The Alliance'll come up with a whole new medal for what you pulled off here."
Ash: "If they don't court marshall you. You endangered the entire mission. Why didn't you just leave one of us behind?"
Shepard: "No one gets left behind. Not while I'm in charge."
Kaidan: "We might have tried Commander, but I don't think either one of us could have pulled this off."
Kaidan: "Anyone else. I'd say they got lucky."
Ash: "Kaidan's right. Nobody else could make a stunt like that work. But anyone else in charge and someone gets left behind...or the mission fails."

I thought it was kinda cool, but I'm glad they did it the way they did.

Garrus romance is so sweet - my Renegon who never romanced anyone in ME1 is with Garrus, and I loved all their interactions. but the romance scene itself is so short! And then she wakes up and Garrus is watching her sleep on top of the covers in her underwear - really really strange. But he sends a really sweet message to the datapad app from G and has a x in it too. But in terms of just small pieces of partner dialog, his overall arc is brilliant. Kaidan should have had just a couple more of those once he joined the crew, would have helped I think.

Kaidan's the right man for two of my three femsheps. And he lives in all four playthroughs I tried to kill him once to make a shep who had been heartbroken leaving him on Virmire, but it just didn't work out. The piano music killed me, I had to reload and save him

Ugh, there is a hilarious comic about this that I will eventually find for you.

Lol.  I know what you mean.  I have to watch what I read with regard to Garrus fics.  But I can hardly make it through Thane fics at all anymore because they almost always involve tripping balls at some point.

Yeah everyone seems to be oddly fixated on the hallucinogenic properties of Drells... /shudder... ick... Can I skip that please... ewww.

Even I don't read Thane fics because people are so fixated on that.  Personally, I left it out of mine.  I'm also cruel to that Shep in that she never got any and Thane dies at the end of ME2.  And it's Zaeed's fault.    It's still a better reason for dying than he got in ME3.

Sorry for the late catch-up.  I played MP all morning and then we went out to see The Avengers.  Thought the youngest was going to explode.  

ETA: It would have been nice to save both Kaidan and Ash but I think that dialogue is too over-the-top sycophantic.  I'd want to airlock the pair of them after that little piece of fawning.  I definitely prefer the confrontation.

Edit again, for typo.  Kaidan and Ash do not sound like baby deer in that conversation.  Well, maybe a little.

I am as well. It really makes it more emotional to lose one or the other, especially if you take the romantic route.

I've seen/heard that before on Tumblr. Why didn't they leave that in?! Of all the characters to choose from, from Tali who I oughtright dislike to Liara who's a little irritating to Wrex who's cool but somewhat one-dimensional to Garrus who is awesome but not that interesting in ME1, why did the choice have to come down to my two favorites? I will forever hate Virmire and wish I could have my A-Team Ash and Kaidan back with me, kicking Reaper buttox. 
They could have at LEAST given the Virmire victim more mention in ME3. The dream was touching, I teared up, but I wish there had been more. In ME2, too, for that matter.

I imagine reading these boards would be really hard for BioWare. So many people react so differently to things that it must be hard to come to a consensus to please the largest percentage of a few million people.

playing catch up and i agree with all about the end... it was supposed to epic and awe inspiring...uniting and fighting with all races in the galaxy...but it turned out to be an epic fail
