Few other important things regarding Kaidan from today Q&As.

- Even though BW said "no one's permanent" and whatnot, today during the Q&A sessions at Gamescom, Mike Gamble made a clear distinction between squadmates that stay on the Normandy and those that don't. Obviously, it mean the ones that stay will be the main ones (even if not 100% permanent) and those that don't will be smaller or bigger temprorary squadmates, most likely specific to particular planets/missions. So if anyone was worried, I definitely think there's no need to, Kaidan will be staying on the Normandy for long
- Mike confirmed mission personal mission debriefings like in ME1 after each main mission yay!

It was mentioned somewhere a while back that there would be no permanent squadmates (or that "permanent" didn't mean what people thought it meant, or something?).  Anyhow, something about how the squadmates worked differently this time around.

still it seemed that there are squaddies that are permanent-ish and those who only join you during specific times ... but I might leap off to assumptions ...

might be he said something to the same extend ... though I was pretty sure I had read it in Christina Norman's twitter ... Casey just left several comments about romance options that left people more confused than they clarified anything I think

When did we find out that the opening takes place in Vancouver?  I knew Kaidan's father retired there so when I found out that the Reapers take Earth first I wondered if their safety would come up but I completely missed the news that it is where Shepard's trial takes place.  I'd have to laugh if we leave Vancouver to the Reapers and Kaidan never at least mentions if they got out or not.  I think it would be ridiculously OOC for him to not care, especially if we're leaving them behind without a thought despite the supposed proximity.

And now I'm putting too much thought into this thinking that just because Kaidan said his father retired there doesn't mean his family still lives there... I'm going to quit thinking about it now.

Ever since it was mentioned that Kaidan would be a spectre in ME3 (right?), I thought it'd be interesting for my Shepard to NOT be a spectre in ME2. Just to see if there's any dialogue change. I doubt it, but I never actually cared about getting spectre status back so now that I've been replaying my ME2 game, I didn't pursue it this time. (I usually let Anderson give it back just because he was a friend that wanted to do a favor, no harm in it). Wonder if they'll offer it again in ME3. I prefer to play renegon so Kaidan is more than welcome to be a shining example of humanity. He can be good cop to my bad cop. =p

^ And I took the opposite approach. I hope Shepard still being a spectre means something and is recognized in-game. I want to do a mission or two with Kaidan. They've got each other's backs and unleash double spectre mayhem on the reapers! Of course they'll kick butt anyway, but still....

Well, according to one of the EA Q&As (which I found summarized here) "Shepard's SPECTRE status will play part in ME3 and change things if you had the status reinstated in ME2."

That being said... doing special SPECTRE missions with Ashley/Kaidan would be awesome... as long as they don't count as their personal missions.

Ooh, thanks, Chylise!! That makes me more enthusiastic about having one character not be a spectre and the other one be a spectre, just so I can see the differences.

We see a Reaper descending on some buildings and some refugees entering a shuttle, including the boy Shepard met earlier. After Shepard ends his conversation with Anderson, we see the Reaper shooting that refugee shuttle out of the sky. Cue melancholic music while Shepard and Ashley look at each other with grim faces, then we see the Normandy flying off.

Then I asked if Ashley said anything?

My next little insane theory: Kaidan and Shepard saw each other on trial (so Shepard didn't go "WTF you are SpeCTRe now?" during the end of Earth demo), but didn't spoke - Kaidan was present as a witness of ME1 events.

The real reunion happens after "Shepard and Ashley look at each other with grim faces" moment, but, since BioWare is extremely spoiler-cautious lately, this dialogue wasn't included in presentation.

yeah, I would simply assume it's not in the demos yet, as opposed to taking place at another time
