You know... I wasn't going to comment on this, but it was the first post I saw when I woke up, and I'm feeling ornery. The tone of Leborum's initial post yesterday was irritated me enough since it came less than a page after someone had posted a question trying to spark discussion, but this is just hyberbolic nonsense. Yes, yes, the thread gets off topic -- that's the nature of human interaction, it's fluid and tangential -- but there's also a lot of Kaidan-related discussion going on a lot of the time. If you couldn't find anything in 120 pages to comment on, you're just not reading it.

Sorry your friends from 1500 pages ago don't post anymore, but people move on all the time. I'm sure it's not always because they're afraid of the big, bad new people who usurped the thread.

I started posting in this thread because it was such a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Take a guess why I'm going to stop. I'm sure that will delight some.

I agree completely with this, you've probably noticed that I've not been around.  I've noticed a growing sense of perceived "Entitlement" here and it is not something that I wish to be a part of.  I started posting here for the very same reason, I felt welcome, now however, I feel the complete opposite.  I don't want anybody to take this the wrong way, but negativity is just something I have no desire to be around.

The length of time one has been present should make no difference to anybody's right to participate in this thread.  There is a word for that, sadly, it's not one I like.  As for going off topic, I won't even comment because it's all been said before.  So I'll just take my leave and bow out quietly.

You know I was going to let this go myself, but you know what, I'm not. 

I don't care how long someone has been on this forum or this thread, everyone is allowed to post, and have their opinions.  So I am sick and tired of people who don't even post here on a regular basis coming in and telling the rest of us that we're off topic to much.  We're human, we talk, we chat... it's human nature as Kolo said.  We are
all here to talk to people with a like interest.  Just because we don't talk about that interest 24/7 doesn't mean that we're doing something wrong, it means we're being human.

Like Kolo I started posting here because it was inviting and friendly, I made friends talking here, and then people I don't even know, that I haven't seen a post from in 700 pages, come in and start complaining about everything we do.  Well enough is enough.  You got your wish, I'm done with this.  Enjoy your thread, enjoy your lack of personal interaction, I'll be somewhere that I can get the interaction.  /salute

Interesting take on the Wrex perdicament.

I figured Shep had to be captain or there'd be no reason for her to be on-board in the first place.  She outranks Kaidan in ME1.    I also have a hard time picturing Anderson stepping aside for Kaidan to take over.  It seems more likely he'd stay on as captain. 

Then again, Kaidan could bring Shep as Spectre instead of Commander.  I suppose he could be captain then.

Me too, even though I'd rather have him on the Normandy than certain other squadmates. Jacob's not really offensive enough for me to really want to have him kicked, but other characters I wouldn't mind getting rid of have some pretty serious support out there. Quick everyone gang up on the weak! Kaidan can't get spaced before Jacob.

Also that Captain Canada pic is great. And I support the James Bond costume too as it includes a tux.

What would happen if Kaidan had gotten the vision? I also think it might have fried his implants. Shepard's the chosen one. She saved Kaidan from becoming a vegetable and unlocked the keys to the universe in the process. But assuming he could have withstood the flood of Prothean awesomeness, I see him starting by building a team (a la ME2). I don't think he would have been as decisive and would have preferred to surround himself with some great talent (which likely would have included Shepard since she has earned whatever reputation you selected at the begininng of ME1 and would have still been on Eden Prime) and lead by committee instead. I suspect he would have acquiesced to more of the Council's requests as well. And I think he definitely would have saved them. Unless your Shepard renegades Kaidan in ME1, that's always his advice. I see him saving all the colonists on Feros, no matter what the cost, and saving Shepard on Virmire. I don't know that he would have made a decision on Noveria. He'd probably leave the queen in the lab, and punt it to the Council.

It's when you get to ME2 that I think things would really start to fall apart. Kaidan would never have teamed up with Cerberus. He made that abundantly clear on Horizon. As a result, the Collectors would have abducted an awful lot more humans and they might hit earth with that Human Reaper as the flagship. I don't have a lot of hope for humanity's chances of recovering from the first attack. I also don't think he would've worked well with a lot of the squaddies - Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Jacob, even Grunt would've been cool with him (and he'd probably butt heads with Garrus a little bit), but I can't see him catering to the whims of Zaeed, Miranda, Jack, or Kasumi. I'm on the fence about how well he'd have gotten on with Thane, Samara, and Legion. I guess he would have respected Thane and Samara as having principles and sticking to them, but he wouldn't understand a lot of the things they did. Legion, I don't know if he'd give him a chance and boot him up before throwing him out the airlock, or if he'd decide it was too dangerous to mess with. Maybe he'd just give Legion (his hardware at least) to the Alliance.


@Kolo - don't leave, you make me laugh. I went back and looked at my post yesterday after what you said, and you're right. I acted like a jerk. I didn't mean to act like a jerk, but I did. So here is a public apology. I'm sorry for what I did and I will try to be better from now on.

@everyone else -  It would be great if you wanted to stick around too.  There's lots more fun to be had.  Anyway, I'm sure this will all blow over soon.  I mean have you seen the things that go down in the general forums on a regular basis?  We're pretty tame in comparison.  Still, I'm sorry I stirred up trouble.

I doubt Kaidan would have let Zaeed on the Normandy in the first place.  I don't think he'd have much of a problem with Thane or Samara as they agree to come along on the mission in the first place (particularly after Thane's introduction) even though they're technically working for Cerberus.  Once he got to know Kasumi I think he'd definitely like her but he wouldn't be a big fan of sneak-thievery.  He'd butt heads with Miranda constantly and Jacob's bailing on the Alliance to join Cerberus would be a huge black mark in Kaidan's eyes.

You make an excellent point about the Council.  I renegaded Kaidan once and it was awful to hear him so xenophobic.    I fail at true renegade.  He'd definitely save the Council in ME1.  Hopefully Shep would be a permanent squaddie for him like he was for her so she'd be there to convince him to let the Rachni queen go.  The Council will kill her without hesitation and, damn, it's still genocide.  I can't do it...except with that renegade Shep that I never did import to ME2.

I wonder how Kaidan would react to Chakwas being with Cerberus.

Edit: Also, what Sia said.  Throw in your two cents by all means but leaving all this fun for a momentary kerfluffle ain't worth it.

I loved how they glossed over the Chakwas's Cerberus associations in ME3. Apparently there's some Alliance reg that says something along the lines of "what happens in vegas, stays in vegas," since Chakwas suffers no consequences of associating with a know terrorist group because she was "on leave." Brilliant. I'm sure Kaidan would be glad to have her there to help with his migraines.

I also think Kaidan would like Kasumi once he got to know her, but there would definitely be a to-do over the Alliance info encrypted in the grey box. Kaidan wouldn't stand for that.

I voted, but yeah, doesn't look good for Kaidan.   Remember there are more male gamers and they see Kaidan as a threat, there are fewer of us male gamers who see him for his real assets. 

Besides, that's just a poll.  Kaidan is always aboard my Normandy.

I don't think Kaidan and Miranda would ever see eye to eye. What would he think of her rebuilding him? Do you think he would feel he owed her?

Kaidan would go back to the Alliance. I just don't think he could stay with cerberus. If he did, do you think Shepard would join him? Would your Shepard drop him on Horizon? My Shepard would join in an instant. But of course I have prior knowledge...

And I completely forgot Kaidan in his natural state says to save the council!

I just posted a terminally-long blah blah blah about the Mass Effect timeline and why Kaidan's reactions make sense to me as shown in the games. If anyone is interested it's on my blog.

It would be interesting to see how Spectre Shep reacted to Kaidan's return from the grave.  As she'd still be with the Alliance she'd take some pretty serious convincing but she'd have a lot more lattitude than Kaidan does in-game.
