It's not that hard in the PC version to romance Kaidan as male Shepard in ME1.  
You do need to use standard Shep face and importing into ME2 and 3 works perfectly at which point you can mod the face.   NPCs in ME1 will refer to you in the feminine but ME2 and ME3 will work normal.  There are some spoken Shep lines that are NOT recorded so turn on subtitles so you can read them.

guess I stumbled here at the right moment:
let me say that you don't have to use Shepard's default face.
With a little time - or using a custom Shepard you already did a playthrough with, you can mod a custom Shepard as well.
It's a wee bit trickier than the normal way, but once you get the principle, it's quite easy

- make a custom male Shepard, play through ME1 - at the last possible moment (fight against Husk-Saren) open the console and change the gender to female
- finish that game and start NG+ with the 'female' Shepard
- when Nihuls is gone to meet with Anderson you can open the console again to change the gender to 'male'
- save and reload to get the change

please note, during the 'female' parts at the end of one playthrough and the beginning of NG+ you'll get the male head on a female body
when importing into ME2 there was a glitch at first, I deleted that game and imported again and everything worked fine.

Er, specifics like that aren't explained though it'd be nice. Most species seem to be the same height among each other with very slight differences. This may be due to the resources it would take to make several different models for each species; doesn't break the immersion IMO but it would make it better if they did.

I think, from what I've seen, mShep is probably between 6'3" or 6'5". I imagine people are taller by this point in time (humans are still evolving yanno). It's always seemed like Kaidan was shorter (a few instances this looks to be the opposite, but mostly Shep appears taller). So I believe Kaidan is likely 6'.

Asari and turians are tall but not as tall as krogans ... humans are slightly shorter on average but you don't really see that in-game. Because of that I think its really up to the player on how tall the characters are.

My male Shepard is 6'4" - female Shepard 5'8" ... Kaidan 6'2", Liara 6'2", Garrus 6'6", Wrex 7'8", Ash 5'7".

 hmm so i ended up editing my completed characters save to get the ending and editing fem shep to make her into male shep for the dinner date as i can't be arsed to play through the whol entire game for the cutscenes.

So now i got the cutscenes i need.

Also my ending for my male shep ended up destroying the earth and the buildings and people on it, it was soo so sad. Luckily i have a cutscene that has the earth left in tact.

so now time to make a male shep and kaidan amv. Also Cortez lived so most of you maybe happy about that.

I know that the OP has a list of recommended fics and I'm planning to go through it at some point, but I was wondering if you know of other fics that you think are as good as these? I tend to prefer longer fics, but short ones can be interesting as well.

I haven't read those fics so I'm not sure I can give you any comparable ones sorry. But if you do like longer fics you can always try mine and see what you think otherwise I know that Kyria is working on an AU fic and Graceyn is working hard on hers too.

Fantastic work! Wow, it's a cliffhanger but we know what happens but that didn't stop me getting worried - nice work! @trulyinnovative, you were asking about fanfic - head to @sagequeen's work

oh and @PhoenixNL and anyone else who hasn't read it, Manipulations is awesome  -has THE best elevator scene, though you have to make it to around chapter 60something to get there. But it is very worth the wait!

Thanks, I think I started Valkyrie and have read about 4 chapters so far. And yeah, Manipulations is awesome and I think most people in this thread would appreciate that particular scene.

Manipulations was fantastic, Sagequeen's whole series is epic too...I'm loving her ME3 stuff so far
