I had dozens of Shepards, but the two I've kept are Jonathan 'John' Shepard a Paragade vanguard, and Jaina 'Jane' Shepard, a renagon Infiltrator. In my ultimate headcanon which I'm trying to get the motivation to finish the prologue for. They run side by side from the Saren investigation onwards. John goes for Ash and Jane for Kaidan.
hai gais!! After being laid up in bed with the flu ive finally caught up on posts...wewt, welcome to the new peeps.. lovely to see so much new discussion going on!
as for this romance stuff...I think I have 8 Shepards in total.. one of nearly every class at the very least...of all of those shepards only one, Darcei, has ever romanced someone other then Kaidan, she romanced Liara during ME1 and as much as I though I hated Liara, I havent minded the story arc and their relationship thru all the games... course that games now stalled as has my interest in ME3 due to the lack of news about ANY sort of DLC to do with actual gameplay and not just MP...
I loved the Kaidan romance for all my playthroughs and squee'd over every one, which is a testament to both the writing and Raphael Sbarge's delicious voice acting....I hope we get some sort of DLC for the VS.. would be truly truly epic.
I tried one game with Ashley in my universe.. I got up to chatting to her in the hospital and her spouting poetry.. promptly exited the game and deleted that playthru.. I truly cannot stand Ash or her storyline or her whining or her poetry it seems....

How do you guys remember the names of which ones romanced who when they do so many romances?
I do good to remember their names, around how many I have and that's about it. If all but one weren't faithful, I probably wouldn't even remember that much!
I can also remember, for the most part, each of the headcanons of the ones I listed except my first one. When I'm seriously engrossed in a game I can easily remember a lot of things. Considering I'm a visual learner, it makes sense that when I see a lot of something I'm going to end up memorizing it.

I have to say, I like your banner/signature!
I mostly play female shep and only romance kaidan and stay faithful cause their conversations are so much better that way but I have tried man shep too and also romanced Liara, Ashley, Tali and Garrus. I thought it was really hard to romance Garrus and I had to force myself through it just to see how it turned out, it was hard because kaidan was there.....

A prime example of what was off about the romance, to me, was after the Thessia defeat mission. Shepard is at her/his low point, Anderson knows it, Joker knows... But Kaidan... He doesn't seem to see it.
He even takes a jab at Shepard during the full team meeting talking about leads. Saying "You were the only Ceberus presence I knew of when I was on Horizon"... Wow when that line rang out of his mouth, I was waiting for the renegade option to show up and punch him in the jaw. (and i play pretty much a pure paragon).
Then later on when you are talking to your crew one on one... Not a word to try to comfort Shepard... Just a "we'll get him next time!"
Things like that just left me wanting more...

Yeah it's pretty lame but from what we know of Kaidan he definitely would try to console Shepard if given the opportunity, it's just unfortunate that they didn't write in any kind of scene to reflect that. But he does a good job of helping Shepard relax before the final missions so it's forgiven

I think its due to bad writing with the thessia part. Every shep wanted to be comforted by their Li's and in our case Kaidan but thankfully they made the best lovescenes with him both male and female imo.
indeed, however i find a few things funny/odd
1. Liara and Kaidan/Ashley are the only ones who doesn't get "fade to black"
2. during Liara romance scene shepard fiddles around a helmet... s/he never used...
3. great way to celebrate opening that bottle kaidan

A piece of paper stuck into the game box works wonders. I have one for mass effect and dragon age II. Like name, love interest, class, important plot points ( dragon age only for that, did I let carver be warden or was I feeling vindictive and make him a templar. All my mass effect game are exactly the same. Bioware games make me unable to be a jerk)

I only ever do two playthroughs of a game. One quick and dirty version of a character and one headcanon-compatible playthrough of the same character.Kaidan Fan wrote...
So, I was wondering...how many of us that have romanced Kaidan have romanced someone else as well? I had 8 play throughs ready for ME3 on the Xbox, only ended up doing 2 of them. All of them had romanced Kaidan and stayed faithful to him except one who romanced Garrus in ME2 and stayed with Garrus for ME3.
On the PC I've played through 2 times. One with a faithful Kaidan play through and one with the Garrus romance again.
Paige Shepard romanced Kaidan in 1, romanced no one in 2, rekindled with Kaidan in 3.

Kaidan: I got too close to the beacon, must have triggered it somehow. You had to pull me out of the way.
Shepard: You had no idea what would happen.
Kaidan: *half smile*
Me: Is he romanceable? Tell me he's romanceable! *runs to computer and googles ME1*

Kenny Shepard: Vanguard (Romanced Liara ME1, no one ME2, dumped Liara for Cortez)
Shannon Shepard: Infiltrator (Romanced Kaidan ME1, no one ME2, stayed faithful in ME3)
Gregory Shepard: Engineer (Completely celibate the entire series)
Benjamin Shepard: Sentinel (Romanced Ashley ME1, stayed faithful in ME2 and 3)
Alexander Shepard: Soldier (No romance ME1, Romanced Tali ME2, stayed faithful in ME3)
Rosemary Shepard: Adept (No romance ME1, Romanced Garrus ME2, dumped him for Traynor in ME3)

Avery: (Paragon, Adept, Colonist/War Hero, Kaidan "faithful")

Meghan: (Paragrade, Vanguard, Earthborn/Sole Survivor. Left Kaidan for Garrus and in an alternate playthrough is 100% Garrus girl -- hasn't made it to ME3 yet)

Rachel: (Paragon-ish, Vanguard, also E/SS. Will begin new Kaidan romance in ME3, when I get around to importing her)

(All Screenshots courtesy of Shenzi123)
I had more, but my 360 RROD'ed a while back and I never got my collection back. I think I had at least one of each class and three more Vanguards. All Kaidan romances, of course.

ME1: Adept or Soldier
ME2: Adept, Soldier, put I did start a Vanguard
ME3: Adept, and I did finish a Sentinel (played it like a Adept though).
I haven't tried Vanguard or Soldier in ME3 yet.
As for rmembering who what: it's easy the game tells you the class and name. 99% of them are Paragon or Paragade also easy to check in game, and either I LI Kaidan or no one except for one Shepard so far.

Last I remember, in the Navy Shepard would still outrank Kaidan but in Marines Kadian would be the superior officer.
(Superior Officer... Why does that sound so kinky when thinking of Kaidan?

It doesn't matter. Spectre status overrides Military rank. And she's the senior Spectre.
But just going by Alliance ranks, Kaidan outranks Shepard. In the Alliance, Captain/Major outranks Lieutenant Commander (Shep's official rank) in all cases.

yeah, there were times when they cared about creating masterpiece FACIAL animations...2seconds, not a single word and such an effect. But 30sec rearshot is definetely easier to "design", and supposed to have much deeper inner meaning.[sarcazm was here]Favorite scene? Hands down the shy, half smile he gives after Eden Prime.
By the way, to anyone who's on ME2 now\\recently played. Is it just me, or did they really give Jackob Kaidan's original "headache" gesture? I think I've seen something much similiar while on his loyality mission several times.Which makes little sence - he is not supposed to be an L2, at all he's 3yrs younger then Shep (and 6 - then Kaidan).
ps: and now I know why all hate Liara, I did LotSB. Should've called trhis DLC "Try your best not to trigger a romance without being a full badass". And those autodialogues...8E... If they don't make VS DLC after all that - they are evil asari lovers.

To be fair, I don't hate Liara. I found her "meh" in ME1 (along with Tali, Garrus, and Ashley), then in ME2 when I found out she saved Shepard's body, it ventured into creepy territory (and I haven't played LotSB but she has your armor in her apartment? Did you find hair and nail trimmings in her jewelery box? That screams stalker in the real world), but in ME3 I thought she was fine. It's just all the stuff BioWare does to push her character into the foreground, making you feel like if you didn't romance her, she should at least be your BFF, is pretty annoying. But that's on BioWare, not Liara.
Ack, new rule, when Chylise starts talking about Liara, Kaidan pictures must be posted. Here's one I found, apparently done in Avatar (the cartoon) style art:
