I shot him for old times sake and was horrified when it triggered the reject ending. I was in roleplay mode at that point so I shouldn't have shot him in the first place but I just couldn't resist. I had to re-watch the whole illusive man/catalyst exchange which sucked.
It's bad enough that there was still no climax (although having the destroyer shoot stuff during the fight was nice), but you still have to sit there listening to this maniac prattle on for a full ten minutes.
But I was always hoping for a more expansive extended cut, where they took apart the final mission and actually made it good. Oh, well. At least we get to see Kaidan make it out safely.
I felt like being so invested in the Kaidan storyline would ultimately lead to me being dissapointed in the extended cut but it seems to have had the opposite effect thank goodness. They really saved the whole thing for me with just those two scenes, I was impressed and touched that they made our love interest such an important part of the ending. Plus as I said the other day the one thing I would allow myself to hope for was an "I love you" and I got it so I feel pretty darn satisfied

I tried to be brave during my first playthrough and said, "I reject these idears! D8<" Starbrat said, "So be it" in a super scary voice and said the cycle was going to continue. However, at this point, I will never coose any other option other than Destroy. My biggest reason comes at 2:39 of this video: www.youtube.com/watch. The look on the husk's face completely freaked me out.
Does Synthesis mean the Reaper-ized versions of the races are "tame" or sentient again at this point? Why wasn't the husk attacking anymore? And what in the world was up with its face? Did it realize that a whole bunch of whacky nonsense was going on? Heck, the thought of a Banshee looking around all confused and whatnot creeps me the heck out. Shepard's confirmed death and depressed-Kaidan are just other reasons why I cannot choose Synthesis. Were it not for the scene with the husk, I would've gone with Synthesis here or there. After that nasty husk scene? Nah uh. :/
the banshees are still alive?
nah I pick destory please

I wasn't expecting it at all. Once I saw the romance and farewell scenes were unchanged, I was pretty much relying on there being a reunion. But then he gets hit and we pull him behind the overturned vehicle (and the Normandy magically flies down in the middle of a huge space battle and doesn't even do anything like provide cover fire or shoot at the big Reaper to draw it off or anything), half-carry him back to the ship, and he begs us not to leave him.AndreasShepard wrote...

I was like "Oh, damn! Is this what I think it is? This is really going to happen?" And it did.
So they certainly didn't get all of it wrong. ;-)

I forgot to mention, it looks like the Ken and Gabby issue is fixed too. I went down to engineering, and Tali was chatting over the comms with Garrus, and then I came back after Cronos, and Ken and Adams were arguing about whether the ship really is a part of EDI or not.
That's the first thing I noticed. Right before the Cerberus base I wanted to go around the ship again. When I went down to Engineering, the first thing I saw was a choice to support Adams or Donnelly about EDI... I'm like, hmm, I've never seen this before.
Anyway, guys I just finished the EC. Obvious **SPOILER ALERT** ahead so here's a picture of Kaidan to separate the spoilers! Do not read my post unless you beat the EC too!

Overall... I'm in love with it.
Why?
1. Romanced Male Shepard and Kaidan FINALLY GET AN "I LOVE YOU" MOMENT! This scene plus the Memorial Wall scene just made the EC for me.
2. How and why Joker left was shown.
3. I like how the conversation with Star Kid is more fleshed out. It still didn't answer all of my questions though, but it was interesting to listen to.
4. This is one of my favorites ... THE ABILITY TO REJECT THE CRUCIBLE!!! The instant I saw the choices to reject anything the Catalyst said, I immediately picked them without regret. Even the ending that came with it, where the cycle eventually lost and died out, felt satisfying. I'm glad Liara's time capsule made a comeback and played a part. I loved how my Shepard died fighting, all the way to the very end. The epilogue sequence with the time capsule was lovely too, and the altered Stargazer scene (with the... Asari Matriarch?) seemed to imply that their cycle probably beat the Reapers in their cycle to achieve the "peace" they were talking about with the help of the "archives" (Liara's time capsule?), so this new "fourth" ending was still very hopeful somewhat. I liked it.
5. This time I tried to get the Destroy Ending... but like someone before me already said ... don't shoot the Catalyst! I did it just for fun because doing it before the EC didn't do anything, but shooting him will always trigger that new 4th ending where the Reapers win and harvest everyone.
6. As for the Destroy ending itself? This is the only one I picked out of the original 3 (I'm going to see what Synthesis and Control look like later), but overall... I'm in love with how they changed it, and it will forever be the ending I'll pick if I only had one choice. EDI is "flashed back" to instead of Joker as you shoot the tube, which is WAYY more fitting. And the "best" version of the Destroy Ending is actually quite happy, according to everything Hackett said. In the end, nobody really did starve! I was a little disappointed that I only saw some of the ME2 characters, but I loved the little drawings. And that KROGAN BABY!! Ahhh!
7. And that scene at the Memorial Wall? With Kaidan? Someone kill me now. My eyes haven't watered that much since I first beat ME3.
We may not have been shown Kaidan and Shepard reuniting, but with the best possible ending, I'm very sure they will.
The EC provided the closure and clarity for the stuff I cared about, at least. There are some things I wish were fleshed out more in EC, like ... where is Harbinger? And Anderson's cut dialogue still wasn't put back in the game. :[
**END SPOILER**
But honestly? I'm satisfied. And that's all I care about right now. Thanks BioWare for doing this.

Then at the very end they tack on the people I care about, and they're all there to mourn my passing, but I'm not even dead, but apparently they don't know it yet, and I don't even get to see that any of them ever do know it, and I'm not even sure about it myself.
I think there needed to at least be something to reinforce Kaidan's determination. I wish he had said something (even a simple "No."), and that it was more clear that he wasn't going to put your name up on the wall after all. Something. Anything.
But I guess we're lucky to have even received what we did get (and we did end up getting something great, at least for some of us).
They weren't able to do it in the code (so not in a patch), but they can still sneak content fixes into DLC. Dusty wasn't sure they'd be able to do it (not because they can't, but because it's a relatively minor issue), but luckily they were able to fit it in.TamiBx wrote...

So finally we can have Kaidan and get banter down in engineering between the crew and with Tali (without having to hack our saved games). :-)

I agree!
I enjoyed the Extended Cut greatly. Especially the Kaidan scenes. They finally say I love you to one another. I really hope that there would be some reuniting dlc.
And even though this is off topic i have to ask (sorry...) Did anyone realize how they cut out the part where the mass relays are completely destroy. The cataylst kid didn't mention that this time. Instead, they talk about how they were heavily damaged but, could be repaired in time.

I guess it's better that way, they really tried to remove the whole "everyone starves" idea with this EC. It made for a happier ending, at least.

In the control ending, the Reapers even help repair them (you actually get to see them working on one).
They also made it so that the Normandy doesn't get sheared in half anymore (it escapes the energy wave this time, and doesn't appear to take any significant damage).
Retcons. Everywhere, retcons! :-)

I kind of hope that this dlc is the reason why Mr Sbarge went into recording session more than once (actually Jack's VA also went into record some stuff and I'm not sure if she got any new contents...did she?)

I only played the destroy option (hey - when Kaidan says "Don't leave me behind" you think I'm gonna disappoint him?) but noticed that the jungle planet scene was left intact so even though the Normandy was retconned and didn't take any damage from the energy wave, it still gets banged up a bit on landing, only to look showroom-new when it takes off again. I'm taking that to mean that it was a while for the repairs to be made, and in that time Shepard had been found. That almost explains why my LI (Kaidan, natch) didn't put the nameplate on the memorial wall. But hey, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. BW LOVES to answer one question and then come up with two more!
