I doubt a fictional character will ever hold as much interest as Kaidan did for me.  I was never into Anders in Dragon Age and I can't get into the elf characters that were available in that series.  Kaidan's been a part of my ME journey for five years now and the first s/s romance in a game that I've ever felt was really well done, with an arc that evolved from one of friendship to love, making it that much more special.

Absolutely, totally this. Kaidan really hit the perfect balance of strong/vulnerable for me. Dragon Age's Alistair was attractive in a goofy sort of way and I much preferred the Anders in Awakening (which sadly was unromanceable to anyone) rather than the militant one in DAII.  And Raphael Sbarge's voice acting was the perfect compliment to Kaidan's look. I think that's the reason if a Mass Effect movie was ever made I wouldn't see it - Raphael IS the voice of Kaidan and to hear anyone else in that role would be just plain wrong.

And boy howdy, that voice - at the risk of venturing into Creepystalkerland, how'd you like to wake up to that voice saying "Good Morning"?

So I think it's nice that ME seems to be so dear to you, that you want to be accurate in your imagination and your fantasies, but because of your disappointment, you're also tempted to move into denial it seems.

Yeah, that's it. And I know it, and I even hate it, since I've never ever (honestly) in any given setting or world followed that way. But after endings v.1.0 (or should I say "beta"?) no one had any other options. People do not like their characters be killed and\\or left in rubble, you know. Without any kind of context and lore about post-ending universe and characters...I hoped EC would fix things instead of making more non-acceptable things.

I'm not too familiar with this notion of "headcanon", it'd be nice if you could explain this to me.

I suspect, that this neologism has no strict definition in any given dictionary, and that people may use it in different meanings. But as I understand this beautiful piece of english word building - it usually means some kind of "personalized" view on things, events or characters. You may use word "fanfic" here, I guess, but those are not exactly same things. Possibly, it has much to do with uniqueness of ME1-2-3, which (up to 3rd part) allowed you to make own lore. At least I met this word here exactly, not on any other RPG forum\\community. What you did and experienced (and partly - imagined) - was you own lore and canon(NOT really a fic). But, once again, I'm non-naticve speaker, possibly I either get it all wrong or simply can not express my mind well enough.

His neck and hair are different shapes than Kaidan's. The neck is too thin, his hair isn't quite the same and his skin tone looks different, as an artist I pick up on those subtle things pretty well.

Have no reasons not to believe you. Main thing for me here - the scene itself exists and was not generated by my post-midnight exited subconscious. 8P Back then I was sure it was Kaidan. Now...I don't know, may be it's reusing animations or uniform (hehe) or something else. On my laptop it looks like not much direct lighting there, which makes harder to be 100% sure. Would be interesting to see flycam (or is it prerender?).

Kaidan is my favorite romance character by far. He's half the reason(Shepard's the other half) I'm sad that my Mass Effect journey is coming to a close. I love how down to earth he is. He's Shepard rock. Even when he didn't follow in ME2, he was the reminder that, yes we have to do this, but we can't trust cerberus.

The only other LI that's come close for me is Morrigan in Dragon Age.  I think that one also has to do with the voice

Endings weren't perfect but damn near. It's got me back into ME3, playing it again and enjoying it where as before they'd always be that doubt and lack of motivation to bother. Used to be like 'why bother?' But now it's different. Now really looking forward to DLC, so more Kaidan hopefully. Unless Bioware want to hate on us and release DLC pre-coup so we can't take Kaidan with us.

Just have to drop in here and mention something.  I was going through my Fraps vids of the EC pulling screencaps, and it turns out that the Normandy is circling the Citadel/Crucible connection point when you make your choice.  THEY WERE TOTALLY GOING TO TRY TO PICK YOU UP!

Then it starts exploding, and the crew member tells Joker they have to go.  It's why the wave is right on the Normandy's tail - because they were literally RIGHT THERE when it started cascading out from the Crucible.

So they did the pickup on Earth, then (presumably) as soon as Hackett said someone made it up, they headed up there to attempt a rescue.

I feel even better about Joker and the crew now .

Why not?Looks alike from that view...and considering render resolution...and even makes some sense. Don't think anyone can just run around capitan's place (xept for XO which was never announced in ME3)? Shepard is MIA, someone has to become CO after all...

OK, thanks, I understand a bit more now. But what does it mean when people say my Canon Shep? Is it the ideal, real Shepard with the perfect playthrough? Cause I personally only have one FemShep, and I once considered doing a Male Shep that would be 100% renegade but abandoned in ME1 because i couldn't make him look alright. Still, I tried, to make different decisions, but it feels wrong everytime. And I tried once to save Ash on Virmire and... I just couldn't do it!!!  What nationality are you may I ask? Tu n'es pas français(e) par hasard ?

Salut, yes, why not, je crois que j'ai compris à peu près, que c'est genre, "la version que j'ai dans la tête" pour "headcanon". Et donc le Canon Shep, c'est "Shepard comme je l'imagine" ou quelque chose comme ça non ?

Hmmm sauf erreur le Canon Shep c'est celui de la version officielle, donc opposé au Headcanon (d'une personne/joueur/fan), qui lui est celui imaginé par cette personne.

Le canon, en français, a une connotation religieuse (je crois que c'est comme ça qu'on appelle le déroulement classique et officiel de la messe).

Edit : puisque'on parlait de Kotor precédemment, le personnage de Revan est dans le canon officiel Star Wars un homme côté lumineux qui a romancé Bastila. Bien que le joueur pouvait faire bien différemment.

In French, "canon" has a religious meaning (I think the word is used to describe the christian mass).

We talked earlier about Kotor : Canon Revan in Star Wars lore is a man, light side, and in love with Bastila, though you could something totally different as a player in the video game.

Well, some people do play different "Shepards". This time romance that one, that time - another, this time - make perfect suicide mission - next time play it bad. This time be earthborn soldier, next - spacer biotic. "Canon Shep" is one, which had some "best" playthrough, with professsion, set of choices and romances that player considers fit "his\\her" Shep right.

I may give you an example - I lost Tali on my first suicide mission, and my own "canon Shep" had no Tali in ME3. On another 1-3 run I thought I'd like to try perfect run and to bring peace to geth\\quarians. Which I did, but which did not change the fact that my "canon Shep" has geth dead long before destroy. In rest part those 1-3 were very close for me(and with same name, face and class), though. I can not imagine my femshep with, lets say, Liara or Garrus and I'm not renegade type. And I like her as engineer. Probablly, I may try broshep one day, but I rarely play male chars, I prefer keeping my own gender.

few of us could, I think, and those who did - regreted heavily...just in few minutes, and reloaded. I can't even set Kaidan to defend salarians, I keep him by my side right up to the bomb. As if I could miss the chance to save him at the tower...
