and Kaidan is Japanese.

Nope! What you mean most likely comes either from wikipedia (and yes I've seen it too) or from a movie title. It's "englified" spelling of japan word that means "horror story\\ghost story" (also may be spelled kwaidan). Can you imagine parents that called their baby afert horror movie? 8P

We apparantly have interlingual homonym here(very funny thing, by the way, eg german word "glu:ck"="happiness" while in russian same word word ="bug, glitch"). Word "gaytan" still exists in ukranian and means kind of traditional necklace, word "kaidany" means "shackles, bindings". And there it came either from turkish or one of the same group language, in turkish close word means something like "lock, bind(protect?)". So, the word itself is very likely has turkiс group origin, and could spread into many other languages. First mentioned dates (if look for same ukrainian surname origins) are about 13-14 century.

But to me, I don't know why, Alenko immediately stroke me as being mainly latin-american!

Everything is possible in the world where nationality as it is does not exist anymore.
But, you know, when I see someone with name of ukranian\\turkic origin and pure ukrainian surname - last thing that comes on my mind is anything latin-american. <-) More like eastern\\southern european and\\or turkish. You named Bulgaria not long ago - for me a nice example of a place where turkish appearance (and his features are typical for Turkey and regions that had turkish influence in the past - which is huge part of modern eastern europe) and ukrainian surname may go together, also something like Romania, some parts of Balkan, or even some parts of Ukraine as well. And I bring your attention that father Alenko (whatever his name was) did not name his son John or Bill, he chose a name that fits surname and has similar origins. Well, yes, I know, that if diving out of game - it was not his father\\mother but his author....but..he did good, same as any single name in ME series - it seems natural and fits the character and appearance.

Really, whoever designed him, gave him Sbarge's voice, and that great character writing deserves some kind of medal for creating such a perfect combo, that appeals to so many different types of persons, men and women alike!

That actually what makes good characters. Some hate them("whiny", remember?), some adore them, not many stay indifferent. And same goes for books and movies. They made him so, that you don't have to work hard to expand and see this character. He builds himself, he speaks for himself, but.. you stilll have plenty room and material for imagination. Yessss. ;)

plus he's very dark haired and with no hair whatsoever on the whole body

*evil whisper* may be he shaved? 8P But....more like BW did not manage to work on facial\\body hair textures. ;)

As you pointed out, there are no nationality anymore and travelling around Earth, especially for military related persons, is like taking the subway nowadays.
So a european name doesn't mean he has no latino blood, does it ?
I thought of a european father, and a south american mother. Something like that.

Edit : okay, I heard about people sniffing and crying... and I need to laugh a little.

So that's when the vid of Schaly playthrough of ME1 comes in handy.

Never thought I'd laughed so hard facing that terrible choice again but...

The Kaidan/Shep evac scene was so perfect and heartbreaking....so glad my mShep got to say I love you. I honestly think Kaidan's romance arc is the best in the series.

It had me :crying: big manly tears.   I know some say the squad evac scene doesn't fit logically, "Why doesn't Harby shoot 'em down?", etc, but emotions trump logic.   I LOVE THAT SCENE

Who said you can't love unlogical things ? :P

I still think the evac scene is absurd, but I still loves it (and I watch it repeatedly since EC release, even though I want to cry each time I see Kaidan's face :crying:)

I watched Ashley's scenes in all games as LI (just to compare) and I can honestly say Kaidan's romance arc is way better. He has more emotion (then again, that must be Mr Sbarge awesome voice)

I'm doing Garrus romance right now, and even though I love him, it doesn't give me the "awww. I want to hug him in real life" feelings. He's like the best friend. :?

I melted. I think I still haven't completely solidified yet.

It was totally unexpected. The scene is ridiculous on its face, but it's like all three games came together in that one moment, at least as far as the relationship with Kaidan.

I'm sure it's different for female Shepards who romanced Kaidan all along, but for male Shepard who went from the friendship (and total crush, don't deny it) of ME to the emotional wreck of the confrontation in ME2 to the reestablishment of their connection and the blossom of romance in ME3, it was the perfect moment.

I can still gush about it (and I haven't watched it since), and I almost never gush about anything these days.

After two days (and two play-throughs) to fully digest the EC, my more fullsome thoughts on it are up on my Deviant Art Journal, in case anyone is interested: On ME3 Extended Cut.

Loved it. At that moment, Shep decided that Kaidan was the most important to him, even more than the mission.

I'm glad BioWare did the EC. I'm now okay with the endings and that evac scene w/ Kaidan was so awesome (Kaidan was my LI of course)! I'm sure that they'll reunite w/ Shepard in the Destroy ending. They wouldn't imply it if it was not possible.

I hope there will be Kaidan-related DLC in the future. It's not fair that only Liara gets a DLC story-mission centered on her (not counting DLC squad members)!

Kaidan mentions having EDI find his students half way through the game and he suddenly says their doing well when you have to say goodbye, So maybe we'll have DLC there? I'd imagine any Kaidan spesific DLC might have to have an Ashley equivelent, but I've only had two Sheps (Fem and Bro) and neither saved Ash (sorry) so I have no idea what there would be to work from.
