I still haven't played KOTOR and I have no idea what kind of game it is. Is it action-y like Mass Effect? Or does is it like another Bioware game, say DA or Jade Empire (the only other ones I've played)? I'd really like to befriend Carth.

It reminded me of a Star Wars version of Dragon Age: Origins, in terms of the gameplay.  It isn't exact.  KOTOR feels a bit more turnbase-y, but it really is a lot of fun.  Plus it's very cheap on Steam.

I hear good things about KOTOR. I bought it on Steam. Can't get the sodding game to work on my moniter. Gave up. Now it just sits there in my library, sad, lonely, wedged between Civilization V and Shogun 2.

Also, Kaiden is awesome. So I'm not off topic.

Great, thanks a lot Bioware. <_<

Haha, I love this because it's true. For the Paragon option, Shepard might as well have gone "YO YO YO!" instead of "It's been a long time, Kaidan". I dunno, I kinda liked that they didn't have them running towards each other in a meadow until Mass Effect 3.

I totally recommed both KOTORs; I played the second first (brother bought it when he couldn't find Star Wars Galaxies in GameStation, haha) and, even though I actually prefer the second, I still wholeheartedly recommend both. They're emotionally-involving and challenging. Plus, BioWare + Star Wars = KOTOR awesomeness.

Also, for a TOP, I was thinking earlier today about how much my Paragon FemShep feels like a guardian.  She's pretty much exactly like Aveline in Dragon Age 2, which led me to thinking... Kaidan is a lot like Donnic, too.  They're both the mature, dutiful type who put their responsibility and the welfare of others first.

[Aveline]

... if memory serves, they were written by the same guy.  Does that help?  (Donnic's even got a variation of the "serving under you" line.)

KOTOR seems to have a hate-on with Vista/7 and ATI video cards. It was working fine with my computer until my husband replaced my video card with an ATI one, then it wouldn't load. :pinched: There's tons of fixes out there people have posted, but we downloaded some ATI software thing and now it runs fine. I only wish I had bought it when it was only $2.50, unlike the $10 it is now.

Run in admin mode. ;)

But I remember playing KOTOR with an ATI card at first and didn't really have any problems other then certain effects not working like Force Sight.

I think I'll buy it next week, along with the DAO. I kind of need something to tide me over until ME3.

OHHHHHH how I love Aveline and Donnic.  And that line totally made me squeal in a manner most unbecoming.

Just a quick warning about DAO. The goal of the writing team is to tell the story of an era. It's not centered around the protagonist. Play it as a stand-alone game without getting too invested in the future of the specific characters. (I wish I had known that back when I started. On the bright side, it's how I learned of Kaidan because people talked about how continuity was different in Mass Effect and how sweet Kaidan was. I was much happier for discovering him! =p)

Hmm, KOTOR-- supposedly there's a copy of KOTOR 2 floating around somewhere at my parents' but I've never been able to find it, gah. D: (Just the case for KOTOR, which I've already beaten, lol.)

(Though, I really *should* finish Dragon Age Origins before taking on another game, lol)

Yeeees, KOTOR and DA are both like that, more about the world/universe than following a protagonist like ME does. I like both ways, I'm more used to "new protagonist every game", although it's probably due to all the JRPGs I've played since I was like, eight.

The only bad thing about continuity for ME (at least for me) was when they were like "Hmmm, we want to skip ahead two years, but how can we explain what Shepard's been all that time? I know, we'll kill him/her and then bring him/her back to life! Nobody will see it coming!" Great, thanks guys. <_< I can take amnesia, kidnapping, banishment, undercover operations, and seclusion, but resurrection is stretching it a bit... even with magic as SCIENCE! :wizard:

Just to get this topic back to Kaidan...I don't want the mods barging in here...:?

Yes, Shepard does suck on Horizon. She/he could have shown a little more emotion. Blah. I wish they would have gotten a chance to talk in private, since that was probably part of the reason Shep was holding back. Or at least, that's my Shep's excuse, because she only really opens up to Kaidan.

I think it's more realistic that they were both kind of hesitant before hugging each other instead of slow-motion running into each others arms. haha
But I wish Kaidan would have said "Shepard..." and Shepard would have said, "Kaidan..." and then they could have bear hugged.
And then made out.

But I found the reunion between Liara and Shepard a little more emotional than Horizon.  <_< The sexual tension in  LotSB was so thick it could have been cut with a spoon, so why couldn't there have been a splash of that on Horizon?
OR why can't there be in option to see Kaidan after the suicide mission?  DAMN YOU BIOWARE.

I've been damning them since March-April-ish. XD

It's so cruel that they only teased with maybe one or two pictures of Kaidan and there's been like nothing else since then ;_;

Garrus and Thane are my dream team on ME2 with my sentinel as well!!!!!! Posted Image
I love Thane as a person. He is about to become my non-cannon Shep's LI. So if you don't think about all the weird stuff, it's okay. Posted Image And Garrus is like a brother to me.

I enjoy Thane as well. I romanced Thane on one of my playthroughs and thought it was nice. Definitely better than the super awkwardness that was the Garrus romance. I had to backload on the Garrus and the Jacob romances. Not my cup of tea. I think Thane was the only really lovely option for male LI's in ME2, except, oh yeah...he's TERMINAL. *sigh* BioWare should really consider renaming the company Melodrama-R-Us. Seems to be their specialty.

QFT. I seriously facepalmed on Shep's responses, and I was mightily pissed off to have to fight the boss four bloody times to go through them all and then select the least offensive one. Geeze, BioWare, you couldn't have stuck in a lousy autosave right before the big Kaidan talk and right after the boss??? The game designers must get off on frustrating the fangirls. Either that, or they need a women-gamer consultation board. :P

Or something in the personnel files in LotSB, or a surveilance video.  Something.  Anything.  Surely many Shepards would have searched for him first.  After all, Liara basically gave you access to Shadow Broker files, and you have an entire galaxy's data at your fingertips.  Maybe it's a touch stalkerish, but it may also be a way of seeing how he's doing.  Either way, it would have been a nice acknowledgement of the VS.

Or Liara's blocking that data from Shepard...

Bold=That is exactly what I think. But that could just be my anger toward Liara. <_<
Liara thinks there is still hope to get into Shepard's pants. Which is why she smiled so cheekily after Shep invited her to the Normandy.

Okay, I'm calm now.

Am I evil because I just don't enjoy Liara either? So many people seem to love her, and I just don't get it. I have always been extremely meh about her character, and frankly, she scares my Shep with her creepiness. I could almost see her creating some sort of corpse shrine of Shep, if Cerberus hadn't been able to do their resurrection trick. I never used her as a companion in the first game, and I never talked with her for fear of her putting the moves on my PC and making Kaidan ANGRY. It was always Kaidan in my party, and either Ash or Garrus; occasionally Wrex.

I want a Kaidan plushy to cuddle now, in lieu of actual game footage. They even showed Mordin... *grumble grumble*

I've got my eye on you, BioWare!

No, you're not evil, unlesss you want to be.  B)  She is meh, and IMO the asari are meh.  Monosex that happen to look like voluptuous blue human women are fine and an intriguing concept, but the execution is amusing.  For instance, why wouldn't they go about topless or uncovered, as everyone among their species have breasts, and they don't have the hangups humans have (or at least, not the ones early 21st century Americans have).

But Liara in particular does have that vibe, and a bit of a Lolita vibe as well.  She's fast to "embrace eternity", where simply talking may have been as effective.  And you're right about the ninjamance - the hardest scene to get in the whole game, imo, is the confrontation with her and Kaidan/Ash.  I actually metagame fished for it, and botched it so many times since it's not just what you say, but apparently when you talk to each.  You talk to one first, and next you know Kaidan's being distant.  :crying:  And, also IMO, she's not as interesting or deep in the first game as other characters.

I hope this doesn't sound like bashing too much.  Lots of people like Liara, and that's cool.  Everyone should enjoy ME universe in their own way, no matter who their Shep is schtupping.  :)

Ceiling Kaidan is watching you...calibrate?

the best suggestion I can give is to postpone recruiting her as long as possible
if you do Noveria and Ferros, Virmire unlocks and you can do that as well, you'll only need to go to Therum to unlock Ilos ... it also saves you the obligatory 'embrace eternity even though it's useless because you don't have all the puzzle pieces yet' scenes after the main missions ... should also reduce the risk of flirting with her too much, because there aren't enough post-main mission conversations left
delirious Liara is always fun and her reaction if recruited late ... priceless [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

I like her to some degree, though the somewhat stalkerish traits are unsettling ... and now she's the Shadow Broker

Anyway, back to Kaidan....... He is my first choice LI of all of them..... He wasn't the first BioWare LI, Sky was, then Carth.. (then Obsidian's Atton) but he comes out top every time... I can't put my finger on why, but I guess it is because he just feels................. *real* You know what I mean?
